Swami Medhasananda, President of the Vedanta Society of Japan conducted the monthly discourse on “Sri Bhagavad Geeta” in Japanese language at the ICC Multi-Function Room on January 5. The Vedanta Society of Japan is a branch of “Ramakrishna Mission” in India.

Fukuoka Prefectural Office organized an event titled “India-Fair Fukuoko” from 16 to 20 January in

Fukuoka on the occasion of 5th Anniversary of Friendship Agreement between Fukuoka & Delhi. The event was supported and promoted by the Embassy.

All Japan Kabaddi Association organized “23rd All Japan Kabaddi Championship” on 19 & 20 January in Tokyo. The event was supported and promoted by the Embassy.

Gregg International School in Tokyo organized “International Week” from 21 to 25 January. An official from embassy participated in the event and gave a presentation on India. A promotional documentary film on India was screened for the students.

Japan Tea Association held its quarterly Tea Seminar at the ICC Multi-Function Room on 22 January. It was a promotional event for Indian tea in Japan. The event was supported by Embassy of India and was attended by more than 60 people.

15 students along with two Teachers from Kudan Secondary School Tokyo visited ICC under the regular school visit programme on 23 January. A documentary film on India, produced by XP Division MEA was screened. Power point presentation was made for the participants followed by a question-answer session on India. SS (PIC)/ Director, ICC interacted with the students.

The Embassy celebrated the 64th Republic Day of India at the chancery premises. Ambassador, Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa read out the President’s message after the flag hoisting ceremony. Patriotic songs were sung by students of India International School, Global Indian International School in Japan and ICC choir. More than 400 members of the Indian community, media persons attended the event.

A reception to commemorate the 64th Republic Day of India was held in Hotel Okura, Tokyo on 28 January. An Exhibition of reprints “Kalpana- Masterpieces of figurative Indian contemporary paintings” was organized at the Hotel. Ambassador received the invited guests. More than 400 Invitees including officer bearers from all political parties, diplomats, business leaders, academicians and cultural personalities as well as members of the Indian community attended the reception.
