Author Study Final Project The final project for this unit is an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise on the author you’ve been focused on for our first unit in EILA. You will also get to take creative control over HOW you present your learning and understanding! Your final project MUST include the following content: - A Title - Titles and publishing dates of all of the books by this author that you read (during this project and any before this project). - Include a short summary of each book (cannot be taken from the blurb on the back cover, and should not contain spoilers). - If you read more than 3 books, summaries for the additional books are optional. - Autobiographical information section about the author: - Birthdate (and death if applicable) - Location - Important details about their life - Awards won by the author - A few interesting or important facts about the author that may help us understand them as a writer. - An opinion section where you discuss what you liked and didn’t like about this author’s books and why, using details and reasons to explain your thinking. - A short section explaining why you’d recommend (or not) this author to certain readers. Who would you recommend it to and WHY? - A section discussing the kinds of characters your author tends to write about (with examples to support your thinking) - A section discussing Universal Issues/themes that weave throughout your author’s books and explanations in your words about how these issues and themes develop, using important moments from the books to support your thinking. - A section discussing your author’s writing style (patterns you noticed) - Use of literary devices - Use character types/archetypes (if applicable) - Point of view and perspective of narrators - Patterns in plot/storylines - The kind of language and word choice your author uses (patterns you noticed). - Any other writing style-related things you noticed **** All of the work on your project must demonstrate the ability to connect and compare and contrast 3 books by the same author. The 3 books should NOT all be from the same series. Your final project MAY include (optional ideas): - List of books your author has written that you have not read yet. - Information about any of the author's books that have been turned into movies - More detailed information on the life of the author and/or inspiration behind the author’s writing - A comparison to other similar authors you’ve read - ANYTHING else related to the author or the books you read that you want to express, but has not been included above.

Author Study Final ProjectThe final project for this unit is an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise on

the author you’ve been focused on for our first unit in EILA. You will also get to take creative control over HOW you present your learning and understanding!

Your final project MUST include the following content:

- A Title

- Titles and publishing dates of all of the books by this author that you read (during this project and any before this project).

- Include a short summary of each book (cannot be taken from the blurb on the back cover, and should not contain spoilers).

- If you read more than 3 books, summaries for the additional books are optional.

- Autobiographical information section about the author:

- Birthdate (and death if applicable)- Location- Important details about their life- Awards won by the author- A few interesting or important facts

about the author that may help us understand them as a writer.

- An opinion section where you discuss what you liked and didn’t like about this author’s books and why, using details and reasons to explain your thinking.

- A short section explaining why you’d recommend (or not) this author to certain readers. Who would you recommend it to and WHY?

- A section discussing the kinds of characters your author tends to write about (with examples to support your thinking)

- A section discussing Universal Issues/themes that weave throughout your author’s books and explanations in your words about how these issues and themes develop, using important moments from the books to support your thinking.

Your final project MAY include (optional ideas):

- List of books your author has written that you have not read yet.- Information about any of the author's books that have been turned into movies- More detailed information on the life of the author and/or inspiration behind the author’s writing- A comparison to other similar authors you’ve read- ANYTHING else related to the author or the books you read that you want to express, but has

not been included above.

Project Options:

Questions to Consider While Choosing The Project Option

❖ Which type of project will allow me to demonstrate my strengths?

❖ Which type of project will allow me to best show my expertise on this topic?

❖ Which type of project will help me take pride and feel ownership over my

work?

❖ Which project type sounds most interesting and motivating for me?

❖ Do I have access to the appropriate materials to do this type of project?

❖ Do I have the skills and “know how” to complete this type of project? (There is

not enough time for Ms. Poer to teach you how to create a podcast for this project if you don’t know

what a podcast is, for example.)

❖ Am I able to envision what the finished product for this type of project

would look like?
