Growmax Growmax is a quick acting soil improver. It is a granular quicklime product with the following characteristics: Total neutralising value of Growmax is 160-170 compared to 95-99 for granulated limestone. It also rapidly raises soil pH, thus releasing valuable nutrients for plant uptake. Why use Growmax? - Easily maintain optimum soil pH Improves N, P and K uptake by plants, adds calcium to soil Farmers can apply using their own fertiliser spreader - no need for contractors, thus reducing costs and soil compaction Facilitates successful establishment of tillage crops and grass in lower pH soils Raises pH of old grass swards rapidly, promoting growth and breakdown of organic material Improves tillage and grassland yield Optimum soil pH helps prevent lodging of cereal crops DOSING CALVES After a cold winter and long dry spell the expectation is that worm contamination of pasture is still relatively low for the time of year. With warmer and wetter weather forecast, the worm lifecycle will be speeded up and we can expect to see infection where calves are intensively reared. When young calves go to grass they have no immunity against stomach worms and hoose. Where spring born calves are intensively stocked on their own, there can be rapid build up of pasture contamination. Due to the lack of immunity there is a large production of worm eggs from even a small population of adult worms in the intestine of young calves. In warm, moist weather the life cycle of the stomach worm can be down to about 3 weeks and therefore calves can become seriously affected with a heavy infection of stomach worms by mid-summer MARCH NEWS LETTER

DOSING CALVES

After a cold winter and long dry spell the expectation is that worm contamination of pasture is still relatively low for the time of year. Due to the lack of immunity there is a large production of worm eggs from even a small population of adult worms in theintestine of young calves. In warm, moist weather the life cycle of the stomach worm can be down to about 3 weeks and therefore calves can become seriously affected with a heavy infection of stomach worms by mid-summerbefore they have time to develop a strong immunity.  Dosing with noromectin or bimectin pour- on 3 weeks after turn out will eradicate the build up and protect your calves.

NEW PASTURES

Reseeds which were left unsprayed in the Autumn are infested with chickweed and other broadleaved weeds. Not only are these weeds a competitor for grass on ground cover but also absorb large quantities of nutrients from the ground. Treatment will depend on the presence of clover, contact us for your options.

MAIZE

We have a number of tillage farmers interested in growing maize for other farmers contact us for more details.

SOIL SAMPLING

Soil fertility is critical for any crop performance and based on results we are getting back, some ground can be very low.
