This is a very special occasion for outstanding employees to provide the glue for our companies and our society. This year we recognized Reservists and National Guard who work for FCMA member companies and had been activated to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan. The evening was best summed up by Sgt. Chris Beard of Swisher, a Purple Heart recipient who stated We do what we do for our country. Chris simple, direct statement captures the essence of the American spirit. Thank you, Chris, and congratulations to the Crane Award winners and military personnel. Second: Tony Suveg, Plant Manager at United States Gypsum, held a meeting with JEA and the Large Energy Users within FCMAs membership on September 21 at Trend Offset Printing. The Large Energy Users Group is working with JEA to improve electrical reliability and to lessen the impact of utility rate increases. I am very impressed by the emerging sense of cooperation by both JEA and its customers. JEAs CEO, Jim Dickenson, was frank and forthright in his analysis of his company and the environment in which it operates. JEAs large customers were equally responsive in suggesting ways to control costs and improve service. Also, attendees reported marked improvement in reliability. Thank you, Tony and Jim, for developing a working relationship that benefits all of us. Third: Industrial Preservation Project. Herschel Vinyard, Vice President of Government Affairs at Atlantic Marine, Inc., has formed a broad-based group to preserve industrially zoned property and it met on September 21 at City Hall. The goal is to insure that the First Coast region has ample land available for industrial development and that its plan will significantly reduce the conflict between residential property owners and industry as we try to create economic development and employment opportunities. I am very impressed by the straightforward discussion centered on facts and the long term view of what is best for our community. Interestingly because of FCMAs regional membership base, Herschels group is being watched closely by elected officials in the surrounding counties. Keep up the good work, Herschel! Last: Professional Progress, Class IX. Graduation for the 18 participants in this years class took place on September 22 at the River Club. Employees from FCMA members, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, St. Johns River Water Management District, and Jacksonvilles Environmental Resource Management Department, completed its eight month

This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the work of FCMA, our various community initiatives and the work of our member companies.

Again, we are proud to partner with FCMA member company Clements Publishing Company to write, produce and publish Manufacturing on the First Coast, which is scheduled for delivery in February 2006.

In the coming weeks, expect a call from Jane Bachtell to reserve your advertising or advertorial space in what promises to be yet another great publication.
