「Vina research」is an online market research website operated by W&S Co with director Mr.Fujii Yoshio based

in Ho Chi Minh city. The website has implemented the survey "Vietnam traditional Tet holiday 2012" for all members coming from

many cities in Vietnam. Survey started from 25/11/2011 to 28/11/2011 with 827 respondents.

As many as 68.4% of respondents plan to go through New Year 2012 at their parent's house.

Most people plan to go through New Year holidays with their family in 2012 , accounted for 87.7% of choices.

During the traditional Vietnamese Tet holiday, top priority activities are "Visit grandparents and relatives"

(81.4%), "Eating and resting at home " (74.1%) , "Eating traditional foods" as Banh Chung and Banh Tet

(69.9%) .

The most favourable places for traditional Tet holiday are "At home (at parent house)" (68.4%) and "Private house"

(23.1%). About 2.8% of respondents will spend their holiday at "Hotel and resort (Inbound travelling)" và 2.7% will

stay at "Relative house".

The least chosen places are "Hotel and resort (Oversea travelling)" and "Friends house", accounts for 0.5% evenly.

Most people plan to go through New Year holidays with their family, accounted for 87.7% of choices.

87.7% of respondents plan to go through New Year holidays with "Family" (87.7%). Next are with "Friends" and

"Lovers", with the rate of 3.7% and 3.6%. The number of people plan to go through the Tet holiday with their

"Relatives" and "Alone" is lower, respectively 2.3% and 1.5%.

Up to date, "Visiting grandparents and relatives" (81.4%), "Spend time at home leisurely" (74.1%) and "Eating

traditional food" (69.9%) are prefered activities on Tet holiday.

Besides, most of respondents also plan to "Give lucky money to relatives and children" (63.7%), "Visit friends or

colleagues house" (58.6%) and "Comeback to hometown" (55.4%).

"Receiving lucky money" is still the top prioprity activitiy which is being interested by most of respondents with

66.9% of answers.

With the combined scale "Interesting-Really Interesting", there are three special activities that most respondents

feel interesting on Tet holiday. There are "Receive lucky money" (66.9%), "Visit and bless everybody good lucks"

(78.4%) and "Return to hometown" (76.8%).

The next interesting activities groups are "Eating traditional food", "Wearing new clothes" and Joining special

events and festivals, respectively 72.7%, 71.8% and 70.9% of total respondents.

"Using new calendar" (41.1%), "Watching special Tet films at cinema" (27.7%) or "Visit religious places" (26.6%)

are common activities on Tet holiday.

Top traditional customs that most Vietnamese families still remain are "Giving lucky money", "Ancestor worship"

và "Eating traditional food" , accounts for 92.1%, 88.6% and 84.3% of respondents.

"Getting good health" is the biggest expectation of many Vietnamese people in New Year (84.9%)

84,9% of respondents would like to "Get good health" in New year.

82.5% wish for "Happiness life" and 78.2% of respondents set target of "Saving money" in 2012.

The next priority targets and expectations are "Have new-friends/relationships" (63.6%), "Personal characteristics

fullfillment" (54.9%), "Achieve high academic results" (52.5%) and "Thriving business/get success in business"

(51.6%).

Only 2.1% respondents do not set any target for New year.

Age and planning activities on traditional Tet holiday.

Besides some activities like "Visiting grandparents and relatives", "Spending time at home leisurely", "Eating

traditional food", there are some differences between these following agegroups:

Agegroup 16_30: pays more attention to the "Make plans and targets for new year" than those over 31 years old.

Agegroup over 31: the three priority chosen activities during the holiday period are "Visit boss house","Oversea

travelling" and "Giving lucky money to relatives, childrens".

Overall, there are no major differences of the traditions and practices remained by most families between regions.

During Tet holiday, Vietnamese families in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang still keep the customs as "

Giving lucky money," "Ancestor worship", "First appropriate caller of the house," "Visiting relatives at the first day

of New year"," Display five fruits tray ","Decorate house by apricot and peach blossom flowers"...

Particularly, in Hanoi, the customs of "Buy gold or buy salt" at the beginning of the year to wish for good lucks

and prosperity for the whole year is more common than in Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang City.

Survey results show that:

Each age group will have different priorities toward individual targets in the New year 2012.

For the age group 16_20: in comparision to the other three agegroups, the most three obvious difference

priorities are "Achieving high academic results", "Have new friends/relationships" and "Personal characteristics

fullfillment".

For the age group 21_30: beyond the objectives "Getting good health" and "Have a happiness life", the target of

"Being promoted or salary increase" are most set for the New year 2012.

For over 40 age group and 31_40: there are four goals and priorities set out in comparison with other age groups

as "Getting good health", "Thriving business", "Buy new car/motorcycle" and "Being promoted or salary increase".
