Plaza Quixote, West New York, New Jersey- Working with a team of real-estate students, I designed a $306 million dollar high density mixed-use transit oriented development centered around a lively plaza. This plaza would maximize property value and views for the development while also creating a civic and commercial core for the existing neighborhood. With this design, we worked out the phasing and total square footage of each use to calculate how much this development could make using ROI and ROE. Spring semester, 2004: Form Z, Adobe Premier, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

Olympic Village, New York- For this project I designed an Olympic village for the NYC 2012 olympic bid using primarily digital media. The main element of the design is a central pedestrian street that will serve as a connection between the ferry terminal, rail station and subway stop. This street will provide a central gathering spot during the Olympics, as well as help integrate the village with the surrounding neighborhood after the Olympics are finished. Fall semester, 2003: Partner Bret LeBleu Form Z, Adobe Premier, Photoshop

Bailey Plaza- Cornell University. I designed a plaza for this heavily trafficked site which currently is a parking lot. In my design, I strove to address circulation by analyzing time-lapse photography taken from a nearby building. These pedestrian and vehicular circulation lines became the basis for the ultimate form of my design.Spring 2003: ink on mylar

Kendal Retirement Home, Ithaca- I designed a wind garden for an open courtyard site at Kendal Retirement Home. The main elements of my garden are memorial wind sculptures surrounded by hardy ornamental grasses and low shrubs. These moving sculptures would both provide visual and kinetic interest throughout the seasons. While taking advantage of the difficult conditions of the site, these sculptures would also be fitting living memorials for a retirement home.Spring 2003: ink and marker on mylar.

Chinatown New York- I carried out this project while working for Asian Americans for Equality. I supervised a team who surveyed over 3,000 parcels in Chinatown NYC. Using ArcView GIS, I spatially mapped and analyzed the imported data. This data was used as part of the community report which can be viewed at http://www.rebuildchinatown.org/resources.html. Summer 2002, Arcview 3.2.

vietnamresearch

Transportation and Streetlife Research, Hanoi Vietnam- In the summer of 2003, I traveled to Vietnam to do independent research on traffic in Hanoi for the group Asian Coalition for Housing Rights based out of Bangkok. During this summer I wrote two reports as well as conducted a 100 person survey on transportation perceptions. In the first report I analyze how foreign funded development projects have failed to addressed the unique nature of traffic in Hanoi. In the second report, I argued that Vietnamese cities unlike other developing cities has been able to balance a vibrant multi-faceted streetlife with motorization because traffic in Vietnamese cities is primarily on two-wheels I also took many still photographs to prove how these balance between streetlife and motorization is maintained

chiadragon

Chia Dragon- Cornell University Using two abandoned shopping carts, rubber bicycle tubes, bolt cutters, burlap, grass seed, and hyrda-gel, two other landscape architects and I breathed life into a Chia dragon complete with movable wings and mouth in the annual Cornell dragon day parade.

planting design

Cornell Campus- This is the final project of my horticulture class: For this yearlong class we learned over 300 woody plants as well as learning the importance of conducting in-depth site and soil analysis. This project was on Cornell campus, and our class implemented the design from site condition assessment to installation. My design specifically focused on winter-interest plants that would thrive in the hot and dry conditions and dense, basic soil of the site. Fall 2002- Autocad

site grading

Martha Van Renesselaer Hall- Cornell University- This project was the culmination of a two semester site-engineering course taught by the “king of grading” Marv Adelman. In this course, I learned the basics of grading such as grading swales, calculating runoff, and determining horizontal and vertical road alignment. For this project I graded a walkway and the nearby landscape around a building on a very steep slope on campus.spring 2002: ink on vellum

site construction

Performing Arts Plaza, Ithaca- This plaza design was the final project for my site construction class. The plaza chosen was designed by the post-modernist architect Stirling and did not function at all. I did all the construction drawings for the my design including the details, the plant design, lighting design, and grading. I chose to design an aluminum arbor as well as a fountain with polyurethane tubes that would bring life into the plaza.Spring 2003, Autocad.
