The video security and surveillance industry is booming – growing between 20 and 30 percent per annum as customers upgrade from analog to digital solutions. Among the beneficiaries is Innodep, a leading a provider of IP-based video security management solutions in South Korea. The company, which has 60 percent of the domestic market, specializes in software development focusing on IP video management solution (VMS) and a H.264 codec for security applications.

As Sung Jin Lee, CEO of Innodep, says, there is a trend in the surveillance industry towards convergence. Demand is increasing for all-in-one solutions that bring together IT platforms and IP-based surveillance software in a single, cost-effective product. He makes clear that much of the demand is coming from local governments. In South Korea, for example, around 230 local authorities are looking to update their surveillance systems to high-definition digital technology without increasing the IT footprint.

Efficient partnership with single point of contactInnodep looked for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provider to help create an integrated appliance. Says Lee, “We quickly identified Dell and Dell OEM Solutions as a long-term partner. Dell understood our business and studied our requirements in detail before coming up with a solution. The sales and technical support were excellent, and Dell OEM Solutions could be a single point of contact for our IT needs.”

A comprehensive all-in-one solutionAs a result of the partnership, Innodep successfully launched its CCTV IP Matrix appliance-based virtualized solution. At its heart are Dell PowerEdge R720 servers with

Intel® Xeon® processors. With their high-density memory and balanced input/output, the servers get the best out of the virtualization options available, namely Microsoft Windows Server® 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition with Hyper-V®, VMware® vSphere® and Citrix® XenServer®. Lee adds, “In addition to a five-year warranty period of the R720 platform Dell also offers Dell ProSupport for OEM, which made our choice easier.”

Working alongside the servers are Dell PowerVault MD3860f and Dell PowerVault MD3060e storage arrays as well as Dell Networking N2024 switches. Dell OptiPlex 7010 desktops with Intel® Core™ i5 processors provide customers with the appliance interface. “We could offer customers from 500 terabytes to one petabyte of storage for CCTV IP Matrix appliance with our Dell PowerVault arrays. Besides the need for large amounts of storage, the appliance has to support a lot of data traffic. “We chose Dell Networking N2024 switches with Ethernet capabilities to help manage the data traffic for 500 to 1,000 channels of high-definition video,” Lee.

Energy savings of around 90 percentWhen combined, the Innodep technology, Dell Solutions featuring Intel® technology and virtualization software deliver a high-performance, energy efficient surveillance system. Indeed, the CCTV IP Matrix appliance when running 500 channels consumes just one kilowatt of electricity a month – a 90 percent saving on an equivalent non-virtualized appliance.

Consolidation hitting 95 percentBesides efficiency, the Innodep appliance is a high-density solution so customers can simply deploy the system at existing sites rather than paying for new dedicated CCTV command centers to be built. For example, just one virtualized Dell PowerEdge R720 with Intel® Xeon® processor can do the work of 20 physical servers supporting 1,000

CCTV cameras. “Our Dell-virtualized CCTV IP Matrix appliance can reduce server numbers by 95 percent for our customers,” confirms Lee.

Sales rise 30 percent with applianceThe Innodep solution has come to market at the right time in South Korea as many organizations and public institutions look to invest in digital CCTV security. The fact that the Innodep solution is also easy to use will appeal to customers, who want to avoid the cost of training personnel or hiring new staff. “In my view,” says Sung Jin Lee, “our partnership with Dell and Microsoft has led to a 30 percent rise in sales compared to when we simply licensed our software.”

International markets are now openInnodep also expects to penetrate global markets backed by the Dell brand. Joint marketing activities will extend brand recognition of Innodep abroad, while the Dell logo on all appliances will inspire confidence among international customers. “I am convinced we can achieve triple-digit rates of growth in the future with our CCTV IP Matrix appliance,” comments Lee.
