La Fiesta de San Nicolás:

Lo que nosotros mal llamamos Santa Claus, porque en castellano debería decirse SanNicolás, es lo que los holandeses llaman Sinterklaas, que viene a ser algo así como la Fiesta

de San Nicolás. Esta es una tradición muy de los Países Bajos, que se celebra tambiénmenor medida en Bélgica, Luxemburgo y otros países de centroeuropa.no se celebra enNavidad sino que es la primera de las fiestas que se celebran de cara a la Navidad. El díaque llega este Santa Claus a la holandesa es el 5 de diciembre, y además no viene en trineo,sino que lo hace en un barco de vapor, el Pakjes Boot. Tampoco viene de Laponia sino queviene de España y además, en lugar de traerles carbón o olvidarse de los niños malos, lo quehace este Sint-Nicolaas es llevarlos como castigo a nuestro país, lo cuál no nos deja en muybuen lugar pero así son las tradiciones.

La bicicleta como principal medio de transporte.

Hay tanta gente que usa la bicicleta que los carriles bicis están tan señalizados comonuestras carreteras para coches, y estas señales hay que respetarlas. También estándelimitados y hay zonas en las que no se puede pasar. Si están muy concurridos, y sobre

todo por turistas, la situación se puede volver hasta incluso un pelín peligrosa porque hayquien se lo toma como un juego y la verdad que los carriles no son para eso. Hay que tenertambién cuidado con los canales, no acabes en uno de ellos, y asegurar bien la bicicleta,que los robos de las mismas están a la orden del día.

Comer en la calle, una costumbre muy holandesa.

A los holandeses les encanta desplazarse en bicicleta en lugar del coche. Y la verdad, esque en este país da gusto hacerlo, pues hay toda una red de carriles y facilidades para ello.Además, a los holandeses no sólo les sirve para ahorrar combustible y para utilizar unmedio respetable con el medio ambiente, sino que también les sirve para mantenerse enforma y no coger kilos de más.

Y es que en Holanda, lo que se dice comer, no se come demasiado bien, al menos, no la gentejoven, estudiantes o gente que en general no tiene mucho tiempo. Lo que normalmente haceeste tipo de gente es comer en la calle, comprarse algo en alguno de los puestos de ventarápida que encontrarás en todas las ciudades. Y en este tipo de puestos, lo que vas aencontrar en su mayoría son fritos.El pescado es el producto estrella, te lo muestran fresco, lo eliges, y en unos minutos,previo paso por la freidora, lo tienes en tu mano. También se puede encontrar carne, sobretodo, en forma de croquetas, de un tamaño bastante considerable. Y algo muy habitualtambién es comer simplemente patatas fritas, endulzadas con alguna salsa, principalmentemayonesa.

Lugares típicos de Holanda:

Utrecht.

Esta encantadora "Ciudad Universitaria" se parece mucho a Ámsterdam, pero sólo en unaversión más pequeña. La ciudad es una de las ciudades favoritas de los holandeses en losPaíses Bajos. Siestáss allí en un día soleado, te sorprenderá por la cantidad de gente quese sienta por todas partes, en las saturadas calles y en las terrazas tomando café. Elambiente en general es seguro y muy agradable. Es la residencia oficial de la familia real Holandesa. Es una ciudad tan famosa einternacional como Ámsterdam. Al andar por la ciudad, no le sorprenderá escuchar quetantas personas hablan Inglés, italiano, castellano y muchos idiomas más! Esta es la ciudadmás grande de los Países Bajos y aquí se encuentran algunas de las organizacionesinternacionales más importantes del mundo: "La Corte Internacional de Justicia", "LaCorte Penal Internacional" y otras instituciones importantes.
