Sandra Caffin would like some help at Phillip Island selling apparel. Rewarding job if there’s enough helpers, and in fact an essential part of Phillip Island. Give Sandra a call if you’d like to assist: 03 9744 1807Wings & Wheels No.15 - Moorabbin Airport.A very new attraction for Nov 14th & 15th with the help of John Blanchard Snr. We will display the new ELECTRIC Nissan LEAF. Roger Griffin Vehicle Co-ordinatorThe Hardman was found yesterday by police after a warrant was executed at a property in Moorabbin. Thanks to all club members for their kind words and support since the car was stolen back in August 2014.Regards Rohan CarrigAt last Tuesday’s MGM 15 year old Aaron Cameron spoke about his Go Kart racing overseas were he has acquitted him self very

well, mixing at with the top Go Kart drivers from all over the world.

Laurie Bennett spoke of his overseas exploits driving his McLaren sports car in the very competitive historic racing events in the UK and on the Continent. Cheers Simmo

Rob Roy Club Challenge Round 3 (Final)This was the third and final round of the Club Challenge series and the host club (MGCC) entered the day with an unassailable lead (178 points) with VHRR in second spot (85).This had been a part of the MGCC’s championship, leading to a lot of MGCC members entering each round so that by the time round 3 came along a number of members of other clubs decided not to enter. This contributed to the numbers being down on the day.As at the Wednesday working bee prior to the event there were only 35 entries. The MGCC did a bit more promo via email, including running a raffle to win back your entry fee (James Scott won the raffle), and the final numbers were about 49 competitors.MGCC are planning on addressing this for next year’s challenge series

The eventSunday 25th October was a beautiful sunny spring day, ideal for a Rob Roy hillclimb. One positive of the low numbers was that each driver had 5 runs and we still packed up early! We had 3 members entered and their results were:Bill Redpath, Redpath Special - 1st in class - best time of 25.74, best split time 12.31, fastest speed across the finish 122 Km/h. The Redpath Special is, as always, a very quick and reliable car.Mike Barker, Hayward 06 - 1st in class, FTD

- time 21.01, split 10.06, 142 Km/h. The last corner at Rob Roy, at 140 Km/h, is a “take a deep

breath” sort of corner, the Hayward is a bit loose, though still controllable, through here. New tyres for 2016!Mark Atkinson, Falkenberg Jinx - 3rd in class - time 26.41, split 12.27, 102 Km/h. Mark has the Falkenberg, back in action following a crash earlier in the year at Bryant Park, operating reliably now - and t’s not too slow either.Next Rob Roy Historic and Classic Rob Roy, 22nd November. This event also forms the final round of the Triple Cup. Each of the rounds has tended to go with the organising club and the standings following round 2 of 3 are:

VHRR 238 pointsVSCC 219MGCC 61The MGCC will do well in this event but we have a good chance of taking out the cup.Mike Barker

IMPORTANT NOTICES

Page 3: VHRR CLUB ROOMS 30-32 LEXTON RD BOX HILL Website: … · 2015. 11. 3. · This was the third and final round of the Club Challenge series and the host club (MGCC) entered the day

This year’s Adelaide Motorsports Festival coincided with the Classic Adelaide Rally and was based in Victoria Park, in the same precinct as the old GP, and now the Clipsal event. The circuit competition was around part of that circuit, about 1.5 km, and attracted an entry of more than 200 historic cars, racing, sports and touring and covered most categories including some Formula Holdens. The highlight was the demonstration event for Formula One cars of the era when the GP was held at the circuit and it attracted some fantastic F1s. From NSW there was the ex Alan Jones Beatrice Lola Hart of Ian Ross, and the Benetton BMW of Les Wright (all 1000 HP of it). From Victoria Peter Brennan’s Warsteiner Arrows (DFV), and there were two Lotus F1s from Switzerland, a Lotus Renault ex Ayrton Senna, and a Lotus (Honda). Add to that a Ferrari, the three seater Arrows (also Hart), and you had a pretty good line up. George Coad made the journey with the Vauxhall Special, and I had my Matich SR4. They parked me in a marquee with the F1s and the sound of these warming up was music to the ears unlike the tame sound of current F1 engines. (But my ears may never hear music again!). The event was all Super Sprint and groups of 14 were flagged off from a standing start two by two, and then under regularity conditions, for 6 laps, twice on each of the days. A lot of fun around a pretty tight circuit which in my case didn’t really need more than 2nd gear. The planned Friday evening F1 parade into the city with a police escort was canceled due to rain but most of the rally cars and some of the sports and sedan cars lined up in Gouger street. The rally cars also ran around the circuit on the Sunday and had their own large marquee at the circuit as a staging post for their Rally. As well there were trade and display stands and many magnificent cars and exhibits. Plenty to see for all ages and tastes. The 220 plus volunteers mainly from the South Australia Sporting Car Club did a magnificent job with the organisation and it was fantastic that the event had the full support of the government as a public road was closed off to complete the northern end of the circuit.I think they plan to run the event next year and if so would recommend our members consider it, perhaps in conjunction with a few days visiting the many wineries and other terrific sights around Adelaide. We send our congratulations to all the finalists, and wish them good luck in the judging! This year’s finalists are:Motorsport Event of the YearClassic 24 Daytona Eifel Rallye Festival Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport Rennsport Reunion Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Silverstone Classic 2015The winners of the International Historic Motoring Awards 2015 will be announced at a gala dinner in London on Thursday 19th November at the magnificent St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Full details are on the website: vhrr.comBaskerville Historics 2017Humpy and up to EJ Holdens are going to be the feature Class with proposed Regularity plus normal eligible classes. Off the cuff how many do you think you could round up to get an idea if feasible for the sports and racing eventsIt will all be subject to sufficient entries but has approval from the organising Club President.More from Greg Smith: 0407 857 351 [email protected] Not unlike the Silverstone Classic or the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, the Phillip Island Classic in Victoria represents Australia’s premier racing festival for historic cars. Young Melbourne-based photographer Lloyd Stubber has been accompanying his father Ray, uncle Paul and sister Marlo to Phillip Island to document the race, its enthusiasts and his family’s place in it over the last three years. Fossil Fuels serves as a repository for these images. Shot between 2013 and 2015, the photographs that populate Stubber’s fourth publication not only speak of the action and aesthetics of old-school racing – the blazing paint jobs, brash slogans and exacting attention to detail - but of the various subcultures and family histories that inhabit it. www.bloompublishing.com.au/
