Patient Accommodation
Patient accommodation should: Provide somewhere for patients after surgery Ideally provide a separate area for cats and dogs (this can be
forfeited if space is an issue as long as care is taken not to putthem in sight of each other)
Have an exercise area Allow each animal access to food, water, litter trays and warm
bedding Have a water source and sink Have an area for preparing food and medication Have an area for cleaning bedding, food bowls etc Have an area for storing cleaning utensils, bedding, food etc... Have sufficient ventilation to allow 4 air changes per hour
(UFAW regulations) Be as sound proof as possible

Large Animal Accommodation
Large patient accommodation should provideeverything that small patient accommodationprovides but: Each stable should be large enough to accommodate
a cow (UFAW recommends that each stable is 12ft x12ft)
These stables can then be made smaller or divided usinghurdles to accommodate smaller species
Doors and walls should be high, to prevent escape(especially of wildlife such as flighty Duiker)
Bedding will consist of a substrate such as straw, notvetbeds

Quarantine Area
Quarantine area should be similar to patientaccommodation but on a smaller scale.
Provisions should be made so that nothing
needs to leave or enter the area keeping itisolated and secure
The area needs its own equipment
Protective clothing [boiler suits etc...] should beworn when working in quarantine and taken offbefore leaving.
Masks must be worn when dealing with
zoonotic disease
