VESTA PSO MANSWYK
Welcoming Programme
1st Years 2014
Letter from the Visiting Head
Dear Vestonian
Welcome to Vesta (Private Student Organisation) PSO. This is the beginning of a very im-
portant, but also an exciting chapter in your life. We are very excited that you have joined
the Vesta family. Student life at Stellenbosch University is a life changing experience and I
urge you to take full advantage of those opportunities available to you through your involve-
ment with Vesta PSO. The Vesta leadership has put together a great welcoming programme
that is specifically designed to help you get to know your new environment, academic and
social. This programme will also help you forge new friendships and introduce you to Vesta’s
values (loyalty, respect, chivalry) and traditions and to student culture in general.
Being a private (or PSO) student at Stellenbosch University today is a lot different to what it
was when your parents were at Stellenbosch. The PSO student experience is today in no way
inferior to that of students in the residences. Through the cluster initiative where PSO ‘s are
grouped together with a number of residences that are geographically close to each other
(Vesta forms part of the Wimbledon cluster along with Eendrag, Helshoogte, Irene, Sonop
and Aristea), the out-of- class experience is integrated with the in-class experience to ensure
academic success and a well-rounded education of students.
A lot of exciting things are in store for 2014, since Vesta and our sister PSO Aristea will be
moving into the Wimbledon Hub in February. This brand new building (built next to our clus-
ter residences) will firstly function as the hub of the Wimbledon community, but also as a
place where Vestonians can have meals (at a residence within their cluster), study and relax.
Vesta PSO has a lot to offer to you as a first year student and the Vesta House Committee
(HK), Mentors, Seniors Committee. Second Year Committee, First Year Committee and Vesta
Honour Society (VHS) are there to help you make the most of this exciting journey.
Carpe diem!
Matie greetings

Boodskap van die Besoekende Hoof
Beste Vestonian
Baie welkom by Vesta Privaat studente-organisasie (PSO).
vewelkom by die Vesta-familie.
opwindende fase in jou lewe.
Carpe Diem!
Matie groete

From the Prim’s Pen
Welcome my fellow Vestonian.
First and foremost I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance into both CTU and Stel-
lenbosch University. It is both an honour and a privilege to welcome you and we look forward to
our journey together. I hope that you will use this opportunity to get to know all of the Vesta
brothers and to truly benefit from all that Vesta and Stellenbosch University has to offer.
Wow, University has been one hell of a ride. With ups and downs, highlights and lowlights,
friendships and parties, graduations and events and so much more. Almost all of what I have
experienced and count as my most epic experiences have to be because of me being in Vesta. By
staying involved I was able to breach a gateway into a world that the average student knows
nothing about. I can even attribute my current job to the friendships and networks that I made
through Vesta. This home has acted as both an academic and social support structure, getting
me through even the toughest of times. The friendships that I have made are for life. They have
been fostered on the sports field, at cultural events and even by just being out with the boys. As
im typing this, I am sitting around a fire on our legendary stoep with the boys, listening to our
one and only Danie du Toit jam out one of his new tunes that has just been released on his CD.
What a life….
Stellenbosch is so much more than just academics. Every University has an academic focus. What
Stellenbosch offers you is so much more. It allows you the opportunity to enter as a young boy
and to leave as an educated, well rounded and independent man, a leader and a visionary,
someone who can go out there in their chosen career and actually make a difference in the
world. This can only be achieved through living a balanced lifestyle in this amazing place. And
that is what we offer. As one of our old prims, James Karayiannis, once said: “Work hard, play
hard.” There are still a couple of the old Vesta legends hanging around campus, Jaco van Zyl,
Arlin Lincoln, Peter Andersen, Hendre “Kaptein” van Rensburg and Morne Morisson. If you get a
chance to chat to these guys, take it, because they have had one heck of a University experience.
Our welcoming program has been tailor-made to best prepare you for what is to come. I implore
you to take it all in, learn what you can and to make the most of this experience. After all, it only
happens once in a life time and before you know it, you’re off into the real world seeking a job
and trying to take out a bond.
I trust that you will have an amazing MAD² experience with us. I also look forward to the new
friendships that we will build, the conversations we will have and the experiences that we will
share. I look forward to welcoming you into our brotherhood.
Kind regards,
Jethro Georgiades
