Scan Display is committed to Black Economic Empowerment. The Scan Display BEE Trust was established in 2005 to empower previously disadvantaged staff members who are involved in the day-to-day running of the business. Scan Display works closely with a number of SME companies, including The Soweto Sewing Company, Siyabonisa, Future Link and Easy Couriers, to assist with their growth and development.
In 2012, FEDHASA recognised Scan Display’s commitment to empowerment by naming the company a finalist in the Most Empowered Tourism Business category in the IMVELO Responsible Tourism awards programme.
Scan Display is committed to promoting sustainability in the exhibition, events and retail display industries. Scan Display encourages clients to use green stand design principles and eco-friendly products, including LED lighting, re-useable aluminium frames and re-usable fabric branding. Scan Display’s Managing Director, Justin Hawes, is a co-founder of the Event Greening Forum, an association established to promote greening practices in the events industry.
Scan Display received an UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) Sustainable Development Award in 2013. This accolade highlights the company’s commitment to green practices in its operations.
As part of the company’s skills development programme, 12 newly-qualified interns have been employed, giving them exposure to the work environment, helping them acquire skills, and empowering them to secure future employment. Scan Display has seven permanent staff members enrolled in Business Administration and Managerial courses to acquire new skills. The internship programme and the workplace skills programme are being run in partnership with the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA).
