Vermont Human Resource Association Receives Prestigious SHRM Award for Advancing the HR Profession
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Vermont Human Resource Association its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the chap-
ter’s accomplishments in 2016. The award aligns individual chapters and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession. “Advancing the human resources profession is a daily mission at SHRM and this chapter’s outstanding work this year contributed significantly to that goal,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jack-son, president and CEO of SHRM. “Recipients of this prestigious award are those who show a strong commitment to advancing the HR profession through service to the community, local networking, and professional development activities.” The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. Ver-mont Human Resource Association will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on their website and information to share with their members about the significance of this award.

Winning the War on Talent
Creative Recruiting Strategies
As the economy recovers there is a renewed war for talent, and Leading companies are again launching recruiting
strategies to meet their needs. As CHRO for Steve Wynn’s casinos worldwide for more than 25 years, Arte Nathan led
their efforts to attract nearly 4 million applications and hire 125,000 employees. Participants will learn about the strat-
egies and sources he used to fill those jobs: hiring for attitude, training for skills, managing for success, and adopting
alternate strategies to support families and communities. A local panel from diverse industries will pass on their ex-
pertise and strategies, and you will also have the opportunity to network with your peers. You will leave this presen-
tation with ideas that you can begin to use to win the war for talent at your company!

and open the Resort at Pelican Hill.
Arte returned to Las Vegas in 2013 and taught at UNLV for three years; he now spends the
majority of his time consulting with organizations that want to achieve cultures of excel-
lence.
Throughout his career, Arte oversaw all aspects of HR including employment, compensation, training and development, workplace
