Mr. Christopher Olley, President
Dear SCHS Community:
I would like to take this opportunity to say a public thank you to our former principal, Dr. Tom Noonan. As you
know, Dr. Noonan has agreed to become the principal at St. Anthony HS in Milwaukee. I will personally miss him
as a trusted friend, but also as a man with unmatched integrity. During his tenure, Dr. Noonan made his mark at
SCHS with strategic hires, a sound review process of both curriculum and faculty and his collaborative spirit.
Please join me wishing Dr. Noonan and his family the very best in their future endeavors.
SCHS has already started the search to find Dr. Noonan’s replacement. The position has been posted and a
thorough interview process will be completed later this Spring. The targeted start date for our new Principal will
be July 1st, 2015. I will be acting Principal until a replacement is found, but many of the day-to-day duties will be
shared among the Administrative team and other faculty or staff. Please keep us in your daily prayers as we do
our very best serving your children during 2nd semester. I am confident that with your support at home and the
compassionate group of teachers at school, we will make an unbeatable team.
I would also like to encourage you to join me at The Black and White Ball on March 28th. The event gets better
each year and as we celebrate our 150th, I’d like to see you all take part. I encourage you to invite your friends,
neighbors and classmates; it takes people like you to make this event a success. The Black and White Ball has
become an event that makes a statement to all of Racine; don’t miss out on the fun and excitement!
Yours in Christ,

Interact Club and Rotary Teamed Up to Spread Good Cheer
By: Alyssa Ruediger, ’16
The SCHS Interact Club teamed up with Rotary to help put together baskets of food and other necessities for the
holidays. Basket items included turkey, ham, hot chocolate, kringle and various non-food items. We delivered
them to the houses of people in need around the city of Racine. It was nice to help others and also see how
grateful they were for the baskets. This experience showed us how lucky we are for the things we take for
granted and how important it is to help those in need.
Volunteers from Interact Club and Rotary pose for a photo.

6th Grade Physics Lab
This month, 6th graders learned how to properly use the digital scales in the physics lab. They measured
various grams of clay in preparation for their upcoming multidisciplinary glider project where they’ll use the
clay to test how well a glider flies with different nose weights.
Students will have local pilots as special guests during their studies to help them learn first hand about aviation
and to give advice on students’ homemade gliders. Local pilots will share some basics about flight and how
they got into the aviation business.
MS Math
In grade 6, students continue to work on fractions, now focusing on adding, subtracting, multiplying and
dividing and how to best use fractions when problem solving. The 7th graders began the new semester by
finishing a deep study of ratios and proportions, which the National Common Core Standards highlight as a
critical understanding addressed in greatest detail during grade 7. Students are now studying graphical
representations of data which they will apply to their multi-disciplinary fuel cell projects anchored in Science.
Our 8th graders have been studying a new area of mathematics - Geometry. We have learned about planar
geometry where we will begin three dimensional geometry in the coming weeks. In our study of planar
geometry, we’ve learned about different types of angles and angle relationships. As you can see from the
photo below, students had fun learning and eating their way through this new material! All Middle School
Angels continue to work hard, practicing over 1,700 hours with more than 210,000 math problems
completed!

8th Grade Career Discovery Projects
During the month of January, our 8th graders worked on Career Discovery Projects, sponsored by the
Rotary Club. Each group of students got to visit a different local business, such as Millaegers and the Racine
Journal Times where they learned about careers in various fields. Other students visited the Racine County
Courthouse and Mother's Day Out Day Care...right in St. Cat's backyard! The students are now working on
answering real-world problems, supplied by the businesses. One group is helping Rogan's Shoes find the best
location for its next store, and another group is helping Aurora Rehabilitation Center redesign its gym. The
students are very excited about helping real businesses solve real problems!

Seniors
Post-high school plans: Counselors will be glad to help any seniors still struggling with making decisions regarding
future plans. Make an appointment with your counselor ASAP! Any students still thinking of applying to college
should turn in their applications as soon as possible, as application deadlines for some colleges and universities
are approaching in the coming weeks.
Financial Aid for College: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms and worksheets for online
applications for the 2015-2016 school year are located here. Remember, it is best to apply online. Materials
were given to all Seniors who attended the Financial Aid meeting during STEP on December 2nd. A Financial Aid

additional information regarding Financial Aid for College.
Do you need help completing the FAFSA? College Goal Wisconsin is a national event that provides free
information and assistance to families who need to complete the FAFSA. Completing the FAFSA is the first and
most important step in qualifying for aid. In the Racine/Kenosha area, College Goal Wisconsin will take place at:
Gateway Technical College, Kenosha campus - Saturday February 7th - 2 p.m., UW-Parkside - Saturday,
February 21st - 2 p.m. and Gateway Technical College, Racine campus - Saturday February 25th - 7 p.m.

in student financial aid will be available during the upcoming school year. The Spring session is open to current
students as well as new families who did not apply during the early session this past Fall. The deadline for the
Spring session is April 12th, 2015.
Parents seeking financial assistance for their child(ren) must complete a confidential form that highlights annual
income, assets and liabilities. We contract with Private School Aid Service (PSAS) to process the financial aid
applications and provide an objective evaluation of each family's financial need. PSAS is a nationally recognized
leader in financial need evaluation services for Catholic and private schools. PSAS will provide a reasonable
assessment of the ability of each family to pay for the education of the student(s) at private and independent
elementary and secondary schools.
Process The easy-to-understand financial aid application is available to all families for the 2015-16 academic year. There
is a $30 processing fee required to apply for financial aid, payable to PSAS. You will also have the opportunity
to apply online beginning February 1st. The PSAS Online Application has been designed to allow parents to
enter their own applications. Parents simply enter their information and pay their application fee online via a
check or credit card. Supporting documentation will need to be supplied to PSAS via fax, mail or email to
complete the application. PSAS will quickly verify and process your information. Please note that PSAS will
require your 2014 federal tax return, and if applicable, will require business tax returns. The information that
you provide will allow PSAS to accurately determine your family's need which remains the basis of our awards.

married over 70 years when Norm passed away in 2014. Their two children are SCHS graduates:
Pam Miller Reichelderfer ’63 and Robert N. Miller ’68. The Miller family's generosity has now resulted in a
$1,000 scholarship. You can find the application, due to the Admissions Office by 3 p.m. on Thursday,
February 18th, here: Miller Scholarship. If you have questions about this award, please contact

There's nothing like Angel Pride
Thanks to continued support from students, parents, alums and fans, SCHS has advanced to the final round
in USA Today's "Best Boys' Basketball Program" contest! The school tallied 71,252 votes in Round 2, good
enough for second most in the nation. In appreciation for the continued demonstration of school pride,
students will have a Spirit Wear day on Friday, February 6th. Further, there will be additional Spirit Wear

athletic program and activity at SCHS. Please sign up here to help out! As always, your time and
commitment to SCHS and its programs are truly appreciated!
Earn School Service Hours While Working the Concessions Stand
Students, did you know that you can gain in-school volunteer hours by helping at the concession stand at
home basketball games? If you are willing to help out, please register as a volunteer and sign up for your
hours. Once your hours have been completed, Director of Athletics, Mr. Scheel, will sign off on your
service hours. Please note that all students are welcome, however, Middle School students must have a
parent join them in order to participate.
