Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the board of the German Society for Immunology (DGfI), we are pleased to invite you to parti cipate in the 47th Annual Meeti ng to be held in Erlangen from 12–15 September 2017. The Huguenot town is located in the heart of the Nürnberg Metropolitan Region. Erlangen hosts one of the oldest and most charming outdoor beer festi vals and is home to the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and high-tech ven-tures such as Siemens Healthineers, the Fraunhofer Insti tute for Integrated Circuits (known for its inventi on of the MP3), and the Max Planck Insti tute for the Science of Light.

Immunology in Erlangen has a long traditi on in basic and clinical immunology and has been developed under former DGfI presi-dents, Joachim Kalden and Marti n Röllinghoff , into an interna-ti onally recognized research venture. There are more than 50 groups in 13 independent clinics and departments at the Uni-versity Hospital Erlangen and the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg parti cipati ng in the interdisciplinary research center „Medical Immunology Campus Erlangen“ (MICE). The extramural funding from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) ranks number 3 in Germany and includes 5 collaborati ve research groups focusing on the following topics: “B Cells: Immu-nity and Autoimmunity” (TRR 130), “Checkpoints for resoluti on of infl ammati on” (SFB 1181), “Reprogramming of Host Cells by Microbial Eff ectors” (SFB 796), “Molecular Pathogenesis and Opti mized Therapy of Infl ammatory Bowel Diseases” (KFO 257), and “Osteoimmunology – Immunobone (SPP 1468). Additi onally, there are 3 doctoral training groups: GRK 1660 “Key Signals of Adapti ve Immune Response”, GRK-TRR130 “B Cells and Beyond” and GRK-SFB 1181 “Checkpoints for Resoluti on of Infl ammati on”.

The 47th Annual Meeti ng will take place at the Heinrich-Lades-Halle located in the center of Erlangen. The organizing committ ee will compile an exciti ng program highlighti ng current topics of basic and translati onal immunological research in plenary sessions, main symposia, and workshops. We cordially invite everyone to submit abstracts in the spring of 2017 and to join us in Erlangen for this exciti ng event.

The highlight of the 2017 meeti ng will be the celebrati on of the 50th anniversary of the DGfI. For the past 50 years, the DGfI has focused on strengthening immunology as an interdisciplinary area of biomedical research, raising public awareness of our exciti ng discipline, training and supporti ng young immunologists, and fostering internati onal networks with other societi es.

All Erlanger immunologists are looking forward to welcoming you to our city full of small town charm. We hope to make this special meeti ng an unforgett able event!
