CHEMTECH Foundation inaugurated the 4th edition of Shipping, Marine & Ports International Conference 2014, which was supported by Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India

on February 10, 2014 at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The Conference themed on ‘Maritime Industry – Bridge to Economic Sustainability’ was inaugurated by Mr. Gautam Chatterjee, IAS, Director General of Shipping, along with maritime connoisseurs like Mr. M P Pinto, IAS (Retd), Former DG of Shipping and Secretary of Shipping; Mr. Noboru Ueda, Chairman and President, ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Japan); and His Excellency Eivind S Homme, Ambassador, Norwegian Embassy.

The second day of SMP World Expo 2014 themed on “Maritime Security & Environment” was inaugurated by Inspector General S P S Basra, YSM, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (West) - Indian Coast Guard, along with Rear Admiral Purandare, VSM, Flag Officer Offshore Defence Advisory Group (FODAG), WNC; and Capt. L K Panda, Nautical Adviser to the Government of India cum Addl. Director General, Directorate General of Shipping; Capt. Sandeep Kalia MIIMS, RMS, Executive Director, GOL Salvage Services (GO Salvage).

The two-day shipping Conference was in-depth brainstorming deliberations and presentations on Environment Emissions & Pollution Control, Alternative & Renewable Energies, Indian Navy and Coast Guard, Shipbuilding & Ship repairs, Inland Vessels, River Sea and Coastal Vessels, Shipping Finance and Taxation, Salvage & Legal issues.

Inland & costal vessels, which have introduced recently to facilitate trade in & around the Indian coast, are merely 7 per cent now. Government’s impetus will definitely improve the present scenario of inland waterways and could reach 10 per cent.
