Grows to a length of about 2m It usually has on its neck two circular patterns connected by curved line ,evoking the image of spectacle hence it is called as spectacle cobra. it has a capacity to flatten his neck into a “hood “ venom affect the nervous system leading to

respiratory paralysis and cardiac failure Pain killers like “cobroxin and nyloxin “are made

from cobra venom. The Govt of India banned the export of cobra skin.

King Cobra is the largest venomous snake snake They are fast and agile Color varies from yellowish to deep olive – green.Their diet chiefly comprises snakes and hence the name ophiophagus. They are timid. They can raise up to one – third of their body straight

off the ground and still move forward to attack. Their venom is faintly less toxic than the cobras but the

huge venom glands can contain up to 6ml of venom.

Enchydrina schistosa.{Hook -nosed sea snake}

Length 60cm.maximum 1.5cm. Tail is flat and paddle like. The overall

color is grey Their venom is 4-8 times toxic than cobra

venom. Their food is fishes. Upper jaw is protruding as a hook over

the lower one ,and hence the name hook-nosed snake.

Scales are rather coarse and granular.

CALLIOPHIS MELANURUS{SLENDER CORAL SNAKE}

They are light brown in color. They are mainly nocturnal . The underside is consistent pinkish red. The head and neck are black with two

prominent yellow spots on top of the head

They are burrowers in sandy soil.

Bungarus caeruleus {common krait]

It is highly venomous .Smooth and shiny scales . Head is slightly

wider than the neck.Body color varies from a dark steely blue –

black to pale faded bluish –grey.It occur in sandy soil and they are nocturnal

in habit.The venom induces nerve paralysis and it

destroys the RBC.

They are bulky ,rough scaled with vertical eye pupils. The venom is haemotoxic. Body color is brown or yellowish. sluggish but move fast. They are bite and make a hissing sound. Echis carinatus {saw scaled

viper}.Trimeresurus malabaricus {malabarpitviper}.T.gramineus {Bamboo pit viper} are common vipers.
