Editor’s Desk

Origin of an Awe-Inspiring Vision

A lot has been happening in Vedanta Foundation since its initiation in the early 90’s… While so much has been done, there is very little that has been written about this noble institution. Being the first issue, it is difficult to paint the glorious portrait of the Foundation’s contributions in a small canvas. Since 1992, Vedanta Foundation has been a philanthropic initiative of London-listed Vedanta Resources Plc. The Foundation is a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 and the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act, 1976. It is approved under the U/S35AC, U/S 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Foundation has a Vedanta Post-Graduate Girl's College at Ringus, Rajasthan with hostel facilities and a Vedanta College of Management and Information Technology at Vitthalwadi, Mumbai that offers undergraduate courses and imparts training into various vocational skills. Call centers have been installed at both the colleges to support the initiative of 'Earn While You Learn'. Likewise, Vedanta's E-Shiksha @ Schools have been instituted in the interiors of various states across India. The Foundation’s Gurukul provides primary education to children and the Anganwadi programme is designed as a daycare to manage the children from 2-6 years. In addition, an MR school for the differently abled children has also been established at Vitthalwadi. The Foundation is actively involved in women empowerment programmes like Sakhi and many others like Rojgar Avsar and Computer Literacy Centers. Vedanta’s Umeed aims to train jail inmates with basic computer skills and provide them with suitable placement opportunities upon their release. In addition, the Foundation’s Charitable Hospital and Research center is one of the notable contributions in Ringus, Rajasthan. Besides these activities, a Mass Marriage ceremony was organized by the Foundation to help the tribal community in Maharashtra.
