And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able

to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes

through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11, NIV)

Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director We were all stunned and grieved to read the three-part article in the Houston Chronicle concerning Sexual misconduct among pastors, leaders and volunteers throughout our Southern Baptist Churches. If you did not read the article

let me share a quote, “The report found since 1998, roughly 380 clergy, lay leaders and volunteers had faced allegations of sexual misconduct, leaving behind over 700 victims.” The sad truth is that individuals and families have been shattered and destroyed. So, what can our churches do to help prevent this from happening in the church? First, we need to quit telling ourselves that it will never happen in our church. Second, every church needs to establish written and practiced policies and procedures that fit the ministries of their church. Third, screening through proper background checks, second level reference checks, and constant monitoring of the system in place. I want to encourage our churches to check out what is available either at the Southern Baptists of Texas or Texas Baptists. Both of our State Conventions offer training for keeping churches safe. In the future we hope to provide training for our churches. The articles in the Chronicle reminded me once again that when we allow ourselves to look away from God and His Word, we begin to sink into the culture of sin’s results. (James 1:14-15) The result of a broken fellowship with God always reveals itself in actions that are selfish, independent neglect of God. In Matthew 5:19, Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount, “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” None of us are free from sin. That’s why we need to focus on our relationship with the Lord. It’s something to think and pray about.

Congratulations Templo Bautista!

North American Missions

March 3 - March 10

For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director for Church Enrichment Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another. Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering,

persist in prayer. (Romans 12:10-12, NET) Our group was small, but we had a common sense of devotion to each other during our first monthly Prayer Gathering. Prayer Coordinator Dr. B.L. Worsham has invited us to join him on Tuesday, March 19 at 9:00 for a second time to pray that SJBA Churches will truly be ONE in Christ - ONE in Prayer. The purpose of these meetings is to inspire those who come to enlist others in their churches to join this prayer campaign, and to develop a few strategies for involving each of our churches in this renewal effort. When we compare church attendance to the size of the total population of all the communities represented by SJBA churches, we recognize that our cities are filled with people who are not followers of Christ. Our desire is for these prayer sessions to become fuel for the Lord to light the fires of revival among us. Make your plans to join us for our next Prayer Gathering.

Prayer Coordinator Dr. B.L. Worsham “--When you pray, enter into your closet, -- and shut the door –” (Matthew 6:6). Why “shut the door?” For one, you have closed the noise and distraction of the world out! You have quiet to think, to focus, to mediate, and to pray in the

spirit and truth! And two, no one can hear except “Thy Father which sees in secret.” (Matthew 6:6) There are things involved in totally honest confessions, petitions, secret feelings and thoughts, that you are ashamed for any to hear but your Lord! Such as hatred toward someone, immoral lapses, and unchristian conversations you have been involved in. When you truly seek forgiveness, you should repeat those sins “out loud!” Sins will become more real and shameful when you articulate them, and you will need to be very humble to do so. None will hear you in your prayer closet –none but God in Jesus name! How thankful we are that He allows us the “shut door” rather than “the housetop!” Remember, Jesus has said: “He sees in secret and will reward us openly!” (Matthew 6:6) Beloved, learn to “love-bless-pray for-do good to your enemies-that you may be the children of your Father.” (Matthew 5:44-45) God Bless You! For more information about the Prayer Gathering, please call 281-422-3604.

From the Pew: Don's Daily Parable

When You Think of...? Who do you think of? If I were to say the word, "fishing", what names could you throw out? On any of these subjects or words, feel free to select from your work, church, or Facebook. I'd prefer that they would be someone that most of us know, but it's really open. Since I already said "fishing", who comes to mind? How about "leatherworking"? What if I said, "playing the piano"? Who would come to your mind if I talked about "baking"? Anyone? Anyone? What about "flying, as in piloting an airplane"? How about "handbells"? How about "singing"? How about "writing parables"? :) Just kidding! I mean who would even think about doing those, except Jesus Christ? What about "running the audio/visual system at your church"? Have you came up with any names yet? If you would, just throw a few out. I'm sure that there are several people you could think of, even in the same category. Here's my point. When you turn your heart, your life, your very being over to Jesus Christ, He doesn't want you to remain static. Pray and ask the Lord to make you a dynamic Christian, which is one who is in action, doing God's will. In other words, He expects you grow, even just a teeny bit each and every day, to the glory of God Almighty. Pray and ask God what special talent that you have. God bless you.
