Dear Angus Breeders, Cattlemen & Friends,

What a year this has been! The most trying weatherwise, but our best crops in our lifetime. October and November weather have been turned around, thus complicating an early harvest. The pastures stayed green all summer and fall due to our timely excess of rain.

The cattle have done well all summer and fall and we are busy selecting our sale offering. We will be featuring some “show heifers” and a nice group of heifer calves sired by MCATL Broadwalk, a maternal brother to the $20,000 MA Broadside selected by TC Ranch, NE as the top selling bull in the 2007 Musgrave Sale. His offspring was the top selling group in Vance & Drew Uden’s 2008 sale. We will be selling 30 (mostly AI) heifers and some bred cows who have been tried and are some of our foundation cows. The bull offering will be 30 top yearling bulls sired by “Reflection”, “Broadwalk”, “Selective” a top son of SAV 8180 Traveler 004; plus an outstanding son of “Net Worth” and some definite herd bull prospects sired by SAV 004 Traveler 4469 who is a full brother

to the $57,500 “Heavy Hitter” and “SAV Payroll” a $22,500 bull. The offering also includes 11 big, stout two year old bulls that we saved for this sale. They will all be recently semen checked.

Please join us for fellowship, a complimentary lunch and a good sale. Thanks to all of you faithful customers and prospective customers. You are the best.

Sincerely,

The VarleysP.S. This herd is known for the excellent loads of fat steers sold on the grid at IBP. At 13.5 months of age they averaged 1267 lbs. this year, 98% choice & prime and 60% to 70% Certified Angus Beef. This is the result of 60 years in the business.

YEARLING & TWO YEAR OLD BULL BOARDING PROGRAM

In an effort to accommodate your bull needs for the spring and summer of 2010, we are offering the following bull development program for our yearling and two year old bulls.

The bulls will be fed and cared for until May 1, 2010 on the same ration cost of $1.75 per day. Even if it’s a cold winter day like the 2004 sale, come and select your bulls and know you don’t have to take delivery of them until you’re ready.

Varley Angus would strongly recommend all bull buyers who participate in this program to purchase 6 months mortality insurance at a rate of 4% (min. $75). The bull becomes the buyer’s responsibility sale day. The insurance can be purchased through Conover Auction Service sale day.

HERD HEALTH- All heifer calves have been calfhood vaccinated, 7 Way vaccinated plus vaccinated for IB, PI3, BRSV, BVD type 1 & 2, Haemophillus and Pasturealla M and H.- All sale animals have been poured with Ivomec for lice, grubs and worm control-All cows and bred heifers are guaranteed safe in cafe and have been pregnancy checked.

1 @ Rib Fat 100.• This is a well bred individual MCATL Broadwalk son we purchased from Musgrave

Angus in Illinois for $9,250. He has some of the best EPDs of any bull we ever used. His sire, HSAF Bando 1961, has been used heavily A.I. and has sired many show winners. “WAR Alliance 9126” , a heavily used A.I. bull is known for his excellent females.

• The dam, Tina V629, is sired by SAV 004 Traveler 4469, a picture perfect bull who is a full brother to “Heavy Hitter”, $57,500 bull in Schaff Angus Valley’s 2008 Sale. Another full brother was the $37,000 top selling SAV 8180 Traveler 004 in their 2009 Sale.

• Paddy V065 has been an excellent cow line for TNT Angus. TNT 9-1-1 Pride 47 we purchased at an Iowa State Sale from the Nelsons. She produced a $5,000 bull selling to Kading Angus, a $3,700 bull selling to Lacy Lester, a heifer selling to Allan Bruhn, a $5,000 heifer to Jennifer Smith in Texas as well as some keep heifers.

• Dam is a daughter of WCC Special Design L309, a bull shown by Billie Wilson, a long-time breeder and showman in Illinois with much success.

• “Krug K834” was a true Angus bull being thick over his top down into his quarter. He possessed volume, masculinity and stood on heavy bone. Many cattlemen remember him as the best bull offered by Baldridge Bros. at one of their past sales.

• This bull will sire lots of pounds and I recommend him for cows.

His +2.8 BW is acceptable for heifers or cows. I have always believed a growthy heifer shouldn’t be bred to a real small BW EPD bull. If a heifer has a really small calf it usually will always be smaller. Today pounds are the name of the game. They put money in your pocket. Baldridge Krug K834 was our choice of the 2-year-old bulls in a Baldridge Bull Sale. He was the choice of Dick Beck, sales consultant and of Jud Baldridge. His offspring are stout, good doers, pleasing to look at and have excellent growability. We sent a 2-year-old “Krug” bull to Minnesota last year.

• The dam of this bull comes off Evan’s Duchess cow line. Duchess V517 was shown with much success. Duchess V725 has been a top producer, producing a $2,700 heifer calf in our 2005 sale. SVF GDAR 216 LTD is well known for his carcass qualities.

If you want to increase your weights and milk, look this calf up. Our cattle are not pampered but loved. Ha! They are wintered on hay, cornstalk bales, mineral and salt free choice. Last winter in February, we started grinding some hay, cornstalks, and high moisture DDG. The hard winter of 2009 gave us the “nudge” to stretch our hay and create a higher protein diet. Canada. We purchased nearly all of the Remlap herd in Missouri a few years ago. Marjorie Palmer and her husband really enjoyed their herd and used A.I. quite extensively. They raised a Grand Champion female and Grand Champion bull at a Missouri State Fair. The dam of the bull is sired by SAV 004 Traveler 3041, a bull we purchased from Kelly Schaff privately. He had lots of volume, depth, bone, and had a good disposition.

• SAV Peacemaker 5076 is a stout bull with a lot of length and a little extra size. If wanting to add a little extra frame, consider a son of SAV Peacemaker 5076.

COMinG TwO-yeAR-Old BullS

In this sale, Varley Angus are selling 10 coming two-year-old bulls (Lots 23-32). These strong-aged beef bulls are well grown, virile and ready for heavy service. As usual, we WILL NOT be bringing these older bulls into the sale ring and recommend you to evaluate your sale choices in the pens near the sale barn facility. This policy has worked well the past five years and best fits our safety concerns and smaller sale ring facilities even though these bulls have very gentle disposi-tions. Semen tested December 2009 all with excellent scores.

She has stood out in the pasture all summer as the “Queen of the Pasture”. Her mother has been a consistent producer of good females. This is a very long bodied, thick, high volume heifer with straight lines and an excellent top.

• Her grandam, Miss Martha 301 of JLM, produced a $4,000 show heifer, the grandam being out of “SAF Power Fix”, a very easy calving bull. Note her BW EPD is only +0.9. She has a WW +57, YW +92, Milk +27. This shows a tremendous spread between BW and YW.

our full brother to the $57,500 “Heavy Hitter” bull at Schaff’s. “4469” sires cattle with great phenotype, thickness, eye appeal and volume. He has to be rated as one of the very best bulls we ever used. We had the misfortune of losing 8 of his older daughters this year in a rented pasture where they discovered old batteries that produced lead poisoning. It was a sad day. We have retained most of his daughters. His sons have averaged over $3,000.
