It was launched to supply free food grains to migrants and poor who faced hardship on the account of economic disruption caused by COVID-19 and Lock Down. Additional 5 kg free wheat/rice per month along with 1 kg free pulses via ration shops to 80 crore beneficiaries registered under National Food Security Act (NFSA). This additional allocation is over and above the existing monthly entitlement of 5 kg grains per person.
