A man came to al-Hasan al-Basree and said to him,

O Aboo Saeed I have a daughter whom many have requested for marriage so

who do you hold that I should marry her to? He said, My cousin, marry her to

the one who fears Allh and who is conscious of Him, for if he loves her he will

honor her and if he dislikes her he will not oppress her.

Therefore, it has been appointed over the guardians of the young women notto be excessive with the bridal dowries and to choose for the women that theyare over suitable men who fear Allh and that are conscious of Him just as the

    Salaf-us-Saalih (the Rightly-Guided Predecessors) did.

What benefit is there in being excessive with the Mahr(Bridal Dowry)? Indeed

the women are Shaqaaiq(sisters) of the men just as the man is in need of thewoman. Likewise the woman is in need of the man so being excessive with the

Mahris not desired in the Divine Legislation nor does it support the intellect.High dowries were not legislated in the Divine Legislation so it is obligatoryfor the Muslims to leave off excessiveness and negligence concerning the

dowries and that the one wanting to marry pay what is facilitated for him andthe guardian of the young woman accepts it and marries his daughter to theman that is capable of taking care of a family and who is God-fearing. Whosedaughter is like Fatimah and whose father is like the Messenger of Allh ?!The Messenger married his daughter to Alee peace be upon him with a very

small dowry which in todays times does not even equal six Dirham, and Allhknows best.

THE RULING OF THE WOMANS CONGREGATIONAL

    PRAYER WITH OTHER WOMEN1

    Shaykh Abdullah bin Humayd

    Translated by Aboo Imraan al-Mekseekee

Q:Is it permissible for the woman to pray in the congregationalprayer with the women? Benefit us and may Allh reward you with good.

A:Yes, there is nothing wrong with the women congregating togetherto pray in a congregation as it has been relayed by Umm Waraqah thatshe sought the permission of the Prophet to lead the people of her

home. Even if she prays alone there is no objection. That is because thecongregational prayer is not obligatory on the women. Rather thecongregational prayer is obligatory upon the men. So if a man prays alonewithout a valid excuse then he is sinning. As for the woman if she praysalone without an excuse then there is nothing wrong with that. If sheprays in the congregational prayer with her sisters then there is no harmand she will get the reward of praying the congregational prayer Allhwilling and Allh knows best.

The permissibility of the Muslim woman going to the

    doctori

His eminence ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen was askedabout the Muslim woman who has to see a Male doctor for a checkup knowing that

she will have to show some part of her body. What is the ruling based on the DivineLegislation concerning this?

Answer: If the Muslim woman is going to a Male doctor because there is no Femaledoctor available then there is no harm in that and it has been mentioned by the

People of Knowledge. It is permissible for her to uncover whatever portion of her

body that will need to be viewed by the Male doctor so long as there is a Mahram(Male relative like the husband, father, son, uncle, etc.) to accompany her but she

must not be left alone with this Male doctor as being left alone with him is not

permissible since this is from what is done out of necessity. The People of

Knowledge, may Allah have mercy upon them, have mentioned that instances such as

these are allowed because it falls under the prohibited means that lead to what is

forbidden so whatever is considered from the prohibited means that lead to the

forbidden it can be made permissible only when there is a necessity for it.

Is it true that the majority of the inhabitants of the

    hellfire will be women?ii

His eminence ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen was asked: Isthere anything that states that the majority of the inhabitants of the hellfire will be

    women and why?

Answer: This is correct. The Prophet said to them while he was giving them asermon: O Assembly of women! Donate charity for indeed I have seen that you are

the majority of the inhabitants of the hellfire. And it was relayed to the Prophet

in the same manner in which this questioner has asked that they asked him, For

what O Messenger of Allah? He said: you curse a lot and you are ungrateful to

your male companion. So the Prophet explained the causes of them being the

majority in the hellfire and that was due to their excessive verbal abuse, cursing,

insults and for being ungrateful with their male companion which is referring to thehusband so because of these reasons they will become the majority of the inhabitants

    of the hellfire.

So if a woman is from the inhabitants of paradise and she did not getmarried or her husband is not from the inhabitants of paradise when she entersparadise there will be those who men did not get married from amongst the peopleof paradise and they are the most obedient of those men who did not marry they will

have wives from the Hour Ayn(female maid servants) and wives from the people ofthe Dunyaaif they wish and if their souls desire that. Likewise we say in regards tothe woman when she does not have a husband or she had a husband during the

Dunyaa but he did not enter paradise with her then she will desire to marry so it willbe necessary that there will be for her what she desires based on the generalitiescontained in these aforementioned verses.

And there has not reached me a specific text regarding this issue and its knowledge iswith Allah the Most High.

If the woman has two husbands in this life which one

will she marry in the hereafter?v

His eminence ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen was asked: Ifa woman had been married to two men in this life which one will she be with (onthe Day of Judgment)? And why does Allah mention the wives for the men but does

not mention the husbands for the women?

Answer: If a woman had two husbands in this life then she will pick from one ofthem on the Day of Judgment in paradise. If she was not married in this life thenAllah Most High will her to be married to the one whom pleases her in paradise. The pleasures of paradise are not limited to males rather it is for the males and thefemales and from its pleasures is marriage.

The statement of the questioner that Allah Most High mentioned the Hour Ayn(female maid servants) and that they are wives (for them) but He did not mention

husbands for the women then we say on the contrary He mentioned the wives forthe husbands because the husband is the pursuant and desirer of woman. So basedon that the wives for the men in paradise were mentioned while He remained silentconcerning the husbands for the women. That does not conclude that they will nothave husbands rather they will have husbands that will be from the children ofAdam.
