WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?Vapes come in all sizes. They can be filled with nicotine based juice, flavored glycerine w/wo nicotine or honey butane oil (THC oils).
Some e-cigarettes such as Juuls and other name brand devices have cartridges or pods which contain only nicotine and which are designed to be used only once. HOWEVER, they can be “hacked” and used to vape other substances.
Nicotine is defined as:
A colorless, poisonous compound occurring naturally in the tobacco plant.
It is used in medicine and as an insecticide, and it is the substance in tobacco products to which smokers can become addicted.

“Winchester High School is committed to ensuring a smoke-free, tobacco-free, and nicotine-free environment for all members of the school community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. State and Federal law and Town of Winchester by-laws, Chapter 15, provide that Winchester Public Schools must be tobacco-free facilities. Therefore, the use or possession of tobacco products and smoking -related products (including nicotine- delivery devices such as e--cigarettes and vape pens) on school property and in vehicles used in the transportation of students is strictly prohibited. This ban will apply to all school-related functions, during and beyond the regular school day, as well as to activities sponsored by outside groups renting or using the buildings or grounds. Violations of this policy may result in suspension, and will result in the additional consequences set forth below. No person shall use a tobacco product in any school building, on any school grounds or at any school-sponsored events.”

Definitions
Tobacco Product: Any product containing, made, or derived from tobacco or nicotine that is intended for human consumption, whether smoked, chewed, absorbed, dissolved, inhaled, snorted, sniffed, or ingested by any other means including, but not limited to: cigarettes, cigars, little cigars, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco, snuff, or electronic cigarettes, electronic cigars, electronic pipes, vape pens, electronic hookah, or other similar products, regardless of nicotine content, that rely on vaporization or aerosolization. “Tobacco product” includes any component or part of a tobacco product.
Tobacco Paraphernalia: Any device used to aid, ingest, light, burn, or consume any tobacco product as defined herein, including but not limited to: pipes, vape pens, electronic cigarettes, rolling papers, matches or any component or part of a tobacco product. No person shall possess any tobacco product or tobacco paraphernalia in any school building, on school grounds or at any school-sponsored events.
Winchester High School Tobacco & Nicotine Policy
ConsequencesPossession of Smoking Products Students found in possession of tobacco products, nicotine delivery devices (e.g., “e -cigarettes” and “vape pens”) or tobacco -related paraphernalia, such as cigarette lighters, matches, pipes, papers, and cigarette holders, on school property, will be required to relinquish those items to a member of the school faculty or administration. These items will not be returned.
Tobacco use is a violation of the MIAA Chemical Health Rule and will be reported to the Athletic Director with appropriate consequences to follow, including notification of parents, coaches and Winchester Board of Health and:
1st Offense : One Day Out of School Suspension and Mandatory 2 Hours of Tobacco Education
2nd Offense: One Day Out of School Suspension and $50 Fine
3rd Offense (and thereafter): One Day Out of School Suspension and $100 Fine
