The growth potential for technical textiles has an estimated increasing-factor of appr. 4,0 % worldwide.

For that reason an investment in Technical Textiles is strongly recommended to take the benefit of the added value products.

The manufacturing of basic textiles without any treatment will remain in the underdevelloped countries and they will struggle in near future how to survive in a global textile market.

It cannot be only governements task, to push these new developments, the companies have to create their own new ideas.

LACOM 3.Market Overview

Page 11: Value addition through Lamination and Coating technologies for

LACOM

The Indian Textile industry largely depends on technical textiles to accelerate the expected growth. Till now the full potential is not exploited.

There are some fields in technical textile consumption with high increase potential like:

Mobiltech, Medtech, Indutech, Protech, Hometech and Clothtech.

Following facts are hampering the growth:

• The awareness about the benefits of technical textiles is not existing jet.

• There are no defined standards for the usage of products made from technical textiles which results in a lack of demand for technical textiles.

• No sufficiant consultancy support to the manufacturers of technical textiles.

We at LACOM are practising already technical support to the Centre of Excellence at ATIRA in Ahmedabad, where interested companies find open doors to start with first experiences in lamination and coating of technical textiles with the hotmelt technology.

- working speed is limited

- no use of temperature sensitive

substrates, if the adhesive needs

higher working temperatures

- glue needs to be milled (powder)

under frozen conditions

- only thermoplastics can be used

Definitions and terms

According to DIN EN 9231) a hot melt adhesive is defined as an adhesive system which is hot melted and develops cohesion (internal strength) after cooling.

Hotmelt Types

Ethylene-Vinylacetate (EVA)

frequently used base polymer

Polyolefine (APAO) for higher

thermal resistance

Polyamide (PA) High thermal

resistance and easy processibility

___________________________

Polyurethane (PUR) reactive

system with high thermal and

moisture resistance

thermoplastic adhesives to be

melted with an extruder

reactive Polyurethane to be melted

Some Main Hotmelt Advantages:

Instead of powder, you are using granule, which is

less expensive

Production speed is quite high

No oven ore dryer required which is saving space

Heat-sensitive substrates can be laminated harmless
