Vallejo Station/USPS Relocation Background The City of Vallejo and the Waterfront developer are working to revitalize Vallejo’s 92‐acre water‐front with a dynamic mix of new housing, retail, office, and light industrial jobs, plus new parks and improved open space.
Major public improvements build on the Water‐front’s role as a regional transit hub, including the two‐phase Vallejo Station Parking Structure and Bus Transit Center.
The Problem The existing US Postal facility in downtown Vallejo sits on the site of the second phase of the parking structure. With the first phase of the Parking Structure slated to open in early 2012, the City is working with the US Postal Service to relocate its downtown post office, clearing the site for the second phase of the Parking Struc‐ture. Once completed, this additional structure will provide 600 ferry parking stalls and launch the development of a new hotel and conference center, retail and office space, and transit‐friendly housing.
Time is of the Essence The City of Vallejo is facing deadlines with their downtown improvement plans and funding for the balance of the parking structure. The City’s project cannot move forward until the Post Office vacates the existing Downtown facility. The City would like the USPS to “fast‐track” the process and enter into an agreement with the City of Vallejo by the end of 2012. Alternatives to relo‐cating the carrier annex should be seriously con‐sidered to save time.

Phase A of the parking struc‐ture is due to open Spring 2012.
Construction of Phase B of the parking structure can‐not begin until the existing Downtown Post Office is relocated to another site.
Swift action could result in time and cost savings to the US Postal Service and to the City of Vallejo.
