FROM THE EAST

Brothers, We are almost over with the frst quarter of this year and to recap our actvites the previous month, We havereceived one applicaton for degree in Masonry and if everything goes well, we are going to vote upon him this month. On our Superbowl party, we sold 65 tckets with 37 atendees and our President Day degree, there were 37 tckets soldbut due probably to the weather, many were not able to atend, of course it's a holiday, many traveled away fromtheir place of abode with their families, taking advantage of the short vacaton to meet other families afar. Sellingtckets is really a very arduous task. Some brothers raised an inquiry why do we have to sell tckets for every event? One brother said, that he is not reaping the benefts due to him in joining Naval Lodge. Some of the Ofcers also feltthat way. I am sad to say this has been made into an alibi. Brothers, I will review again my alloted budget for 2017 andif I can fnd a "major donor" maybe it will be all free the next tme.

There are two major events that we will be having for the second quarter of this year. The Hiram Award Night and theWidow's Luncheon. I have a high hope that if we will make this two event free, many will join us in the celebratons. Iwill now give this as a challenge to the Ofcers to apply their prowess in convincing the brothers to join us, visit ourLodge and enjoy the rights and benefts aforded by our insttuton.

The month of March is full of Holidays, Celebratons and Events. The Potato Chip Day, St. Patrick's Day, InternatonalWomen's Day, Human Rights Day, Submarine Day etc.,the phrase "Beware of the Ides of March" which was a warninggiven to Julius Caesar before he was assassinated and of course Fathers Day for Italians, Ash Wednesday for theRoman Catholics and the Daylight Saving Time begins.

But this month of March, we in the Naval Lodge family will not be celebratng those and instead a reprieved fromour busy Masonic life. No big event, I'm only looking forward for two conferrals: l a frst and a second Degree. If thereare changes you want to add or omit please fell free to contact me.

Remember my Brothers, as your Worshipful Master, I'm only the fgure head, you my Brothers decides the fate ofour Lodge. You can make it lively, you can make it fop. But remember the day when you were kneeling at the altar andswore, hope that you keep that promise.

The Sun in the West

I would like to express my sincere gratitude toall the officers, members, families and friends of NavalLodge No. 87 who showed their unconditional supportat our SuperBowl Party last February 5th. Thehighlights and the exciting part of the game didn’t showuntil towards the end. Congratulations to the NewEngland “Patriots” and sorry for the fans of Atlanta“Falcons”.

On February 20th, we observed this day tohonor one of the founding fathers of this great nation, our Brother George Washington by participating in atraditional double “daylight degree conferral” with otherlodges within our district. Naval Lodge No.87, hostedthis event and it was well attended by brethren fromdifferent lodges in the Bay Area. This gave us theopportunity to sharpen our Masonic rituals and simplyenjoy each other’s company and fellowship. On this20th day we passed Brothers Joaquin Loayza andBryan Shields our candidates for the Fellow craftdegree. Congratulations to you both brothers for yourcontinuous accomplishment. I continue to encourageyou to work with your individual candidate coaches andmentors for your advancement. It is also important forthe coaches to engage and educate our newly initiatedand passed brothers. Their journey to the SublimeDegree and becoming a Master Mason depends onyour coaching and mentoring. Please let me know ifthere is any additional assistance that I could provideyou.

I will be out of the country for maybe fewweeks and be back by mid of March. Just to take caresome property own by our family. Hope we canachieve some of the necessary process to makeeveryone happy and fully satisfied. Your prayers andmoral support are greatly appreciated. Thanksbrethren . . . . . . .

Notes From the Editor

Dear Brethren,

Recently Worshipful Thomas, PM asked me as our lodge's historian to investigate how long NavalLodge No. 87 has been conducting Daylight Degrees. As you all know, we just conducted a double2nd Degree this past President's Day, following the tradition of the Daylight Degree. I must confessmy brothers, I have not had the time to investigate this question in detail. Having said that, if anybrother knows the answer, please let me know and I will include it in next month's Trestleboard. Iplan on doing some digging in our archives and library to see if I can find the answer.

Speaking of the Daylight Degree, I want to congratulate brother's Layoza and Shields on theirconferral. I wish I could have been there my brothers, but I am so glad to know that you have hadthe experience of being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. May your journey though Masonrycontinue to be an enlightening one.

In thinking about the Daylight Degree, I found myself wondering about the symbolism in our Craftregarding light and darkness. These are motifs that occur in your Ritual work and in our Masonicsymbolism. As we go through the winter months and enter into Spring time, perhaps we can allreflect on the symbol of light and dark, and how these are important to us as Masons. More will besaid next month.

I will end my note my brothers, with asking for requests. If any brother feels inspired to write anarticle for our Trestleboard, please email it to me for consideration. The Master and I are alwayslooking for ways to enhance the content of our monthly issues.

Fraternally,

Colin Amato Editor
