Client & Site:Terrapin Beer Co. is located on 265 Newton Bridge Rd in Athens, Georgia. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30, this brewery allows one to try craft beers while enjoying live music and fresh air. Tours of the brewery are also available inside.

1) Senior Exit Project

Design ConceptInspiration taken from photographs of nature, guided Terrapin’s design concept. The straight simple and long lines derived from the photographs contrast with layered entangled winding shapes created from tree branches. This particular contrast is used throughout the tasting area’s straight angular wooden beams on top of stone pillars, and in the metal ceiling panels over both the interior and exterior stages. The long linear twist derived from the road in the second photograph contrasts with the shorter spiky grass. These contrasting concepts directly relate to the design of the light fixtures placed in the main tasting areas.

Wanting to create a space better equipped to handle the large crowds at Terrapin, specific line waiting areas were designated. With these designated areas it clears out other spaces in the brewery to enjoy the music and make conversation.

Located on the first floor of the Shinjuku Grand hotel this Brazilian Resturant is inspired by the Iguazu Falls in Brazil. On the inside large leaf shaped structures hang from the ceiling to create a tropical canopy along a dynamic curving liquor bottle shelve built from 2 X 4 wooden boards. The outside deck is surrounded by water and has seating angled toward the stage where carnaval dancers perform.

After selecting an image off Houzz.com a reproduction was modeled with 3DS Max program. This was achieved by first building each element and shape. The next step was assigning the different materials and finishes. Lighting and shadows were applied afterward.

Parco Via San Trinita, a new park near the University of Georgia campus, responds to community interest in an English language summer camp. The park includes a linear playground along the previously unused Via San Trinita, an open fi eld, a covered area for instruction, and multiple eating areas. When not in use for camps, Parco Via San Trinita remains open to the public and transistions based on seasonal needs. Visitors can choose between a casual picnic with food from vending machines or a sit down restaurant watching kids play on one of the only fi elds in Cortona, Italy.

MBW is a personal injury law firm that will be located in Athens, Ga. This relaxing environment, designed for clients who have suffered injuries, is inspired by nature but also focuses on maintaining the productivity of the company. By creating one large hallway for attorneys and locating their assistants inbetween them, stronger relationships are created with nearby areas for collaboration. Additional areas, specifically a nap room and full plant wall, improve the overall work experience.

The proposed client for this project needed an office space to run their art gallery business, while also having acesses to their two bedroom two bath apartment on the second floor. Located on a busy street in the middle of the city this space has a large front window to catch the attention of those passing by aswell as providing a great view on the second floor. Both the first and second floor are divded by public and private spaces inorder to clearly distinguish the different spaces.

Constellations and the stories associated with them can teach lessons and values to many, simliar to the discipine and order that comes with the traditional japanese tea ceromony. Inspired by constellations this tea house is designed for the night ceronmony, Yogomi, and allows for star gazing by having an open roof. The tall surrounding bamboo fence encloses the space while moon flowers, and details in door handles along with dark wood stain remind the visitor that this teas house is reflecting the night sky.

Inspired by the song “Oh” by Eric Hutchinson this four story space starts at the bottom floor and transitions from a closed off room full of mirrors and darkness into a open room surrounded by light from windows. As one ascends up the stairs they continue to see less of themselves in their relfection and more of the outside world. This parallels the song’s message of one opening up their mind and becoming selfless.
