PHOTO CORNER:Exposing the work of

duane bassoo We were introduced to the brilliant work of travel photographer Duane

Bassoo when he submitted us a photo essay which we published in our last is-sue. When the theme of getting off the beaten path came up, he seemed like the perfect guy to interview. Duane is one of those people that is more than willing to dig a little deeper and travel a little bit off the beaten path to get a great im-age. His striking work features images from the Philippines, Nepal, and many

more incredible destinations.

On this edition of Photo Corner, Editor-in-Chief Brendan van Son chats with Duane about getting off the path and what it takes to shoot a unique image.

The Blue Waterfall On The Way To Wanaka 44.7000S, 169.1500E

It was the second time I had visited Oceania, but my first time to New Zealand. I had only made time for Australia during my previous visit, this is in spite of the fact that most everyone I had met urged me to go to New Zealand over Australia. . But I was on an around-the-world ticket at the time, and restricted by the fees and headaches associated with changing routes, I stuck solely with Australia.

This past September, in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park of Catalonia, the fourth annual Ultra Cavalls del Vent was held. The behemoth 85 kilometer race through moun-tain terrain - a sport commonly known as skyrunning - is an extreme physical challenge which attracts some of the best athletes the world over. This year 1,000 runners attempt-ed to complete the course within its allotted 24 hours. More than half did not. But for na-tive Catalonian Jordi “Toti” Bes, the athleticism required to be a skyrunner is a challenge worth accepting. A challenge which has taken him all over the globe.

Convincing our staff of writers to go out and indulge in their favourite drinks wasn’t exactly the most difficult of tasks. In fact, I’m sure most of our writers don’t complete a single article without con-suming one or two of these beverages.

In this edition of “Eating our way Around the World” the staff dives into coffee in Thailand, Beer in Myanmar, Mate in South America, and much more..
