Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. Engaging with art is essential to the human experience. It adds value to people’s experiences and increase sensitivity to nature and surrounding. It connects people and could express lot of things without words. Art is important in society because it is an essential ingredient to empowering the hearts of people.

This art showcase provides an opportunity for Visual Art Department, FCVAC to exhibit their masterpiece in a variety forms of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, design and crafts. Pindah record the emotions that associated with their memory from Shah Alam to Bestari Jaya. It also represents their hope for a better tomorrow. Congratulations to VAD staff for all the hard work you have put in. Just keep climbing the staircase and enjoy every bit of it.

This life is a long journey. A one-way journey forward that is impossible to turn back from. The past became memories. The good, the bad, and the bittersweet. The remembered and the forgotten. All were counted and none were erased. Maybe we are the ones who let them be. Humans are forgetful creatures, who forget who are they and who they were. Forgot to be grateful and forget to repay in kind, forgetting mistakes and forgetting ignorances. As scholars would say, it is good to forget the kindness given to others, as if giving with the right hand but the left hand left unwary.

We have passed two stages of life and now we are facing the third, the stage where we are witnessing fallacy, greed, and negligence. We forget that all will be left behind as we move on with the journey to the seventh stage of life.

‘Pindah’ is a visual remark adapted from the feelings of the artists in their own ways with their own expertise. A telling of bittersweet stories about moving places. Visual language expression with iconographies and imagination from varieties of media such as painting, photography, two-dimensional prints, sculpture, three-dimensional installation, as well as new media such as video and etcetera. Paintings can be categorized into two types, commercial and non-commercial. Commercial paintings, for example, can be illustrations, graphical, animation and advertising. On the other hand, fine art paintings can be considered non-commercial. Drawings also can be a strong elaboration from just merely picturing. Herber Read (1893-1968) pointed out that painting is a spiritual endeavor, reflecting the physical and can bring forth soul and feelings.

Today, art is no longer just a hanging of a picture, but exist when a person felt an image, or the images connect with the viewer for personal reason, or for the memories it brings to the present. Curiosity might come with the appreciation, as with the aesthetic value, the truth, or specific information. All of this indirectly come with experiencing the art. Often, the interpretation depends on the subjective understanding of an individual.

An art exhibit is the epitome of art presentation by the artists from the result of visual research for the audience to enjoy. These works are ready to receive criticism based on the quality and assessment of the works should take place. Through this process, the quality of production can be determined, along with strengthening the culture of critical thinking among critics and society as well as determining the direction of national culture.

It is not easy to analyze feelings through visual language; how to express anger, sadness, somber, sympathy, confusion, spirit, happiness and contentment through colours and iconographies. For it to be delivered as it is to the viewer. Sometimes the feelings can be loud, the satire can be sharp, the sympathies can be deep but alas, no voices can be heard.

It is true that there are no words can be spoken when one is talking about an artwork, however, at times, feelings that are being communicated can be right on the spot.The writer once experiences meeting fans and collectors who would own an artwork for thousands of ringgits just because they are moved by the images pictured on the canvas. The emotion is so close to the heart and can generate such deep nostalgia. An Indonesian painter, Seodarso SP (2002), stated that visual art is a work discussing the internal experiences of an artist. These experiences are beautifully presented even though the elements in the works are just lines and colours. Visual imagery as such at times can make the viewer feel happiness, even sadness. So these are the character of an artist who shares his works with the public to appreciate the value of art.In the opinion of Leo Tolstoy (2000), an artwork is a feeling expressed by the artist to the viewer so they can feel what is felt by the artist. Myers (1962) on the other hand concluded that an artwork often indulges in intellectual values, emotions, symbolical, religion and other subjective values

The question is why we should move? Why we, ideally (as we thought) should move from the city into the rural area? Will our creativity grow or the surviving will make our students more creative? There are those who agree without agreeing, who agrees nonetheless, there those who are happy, some excited, there are highly spirited and some disappointed. There are those who left their jobs, some in total denial and more consequences and repercussion from ‘moving’ out can be felt.

When observed, ‘pindah’ is a sunnah that can bring more benefit socially and economically. New surroundings and new acquaintances, affordable expenses and less traffic congestion, reclamation of time and being with a new society that is more inclusive. Even more valuable, comfortable new spaces and location.Taking a lesson from Rasullullah (PBUH) in the event of Hijrah from Mekah to Madinah that carries new broadness, Islam grew rapidly. ‘Pindah’ can’t be viewed materially, from mediocrity to wealthy, from rag to riches, from hardship to ease. ‘Pindah’ should happen thoroughly physically and spiritually.

‘Pindah’ in the meaning of migration and transformation give new impactful approach for the artist in their idea documentation and expression in line with the growth of visual art thinking. Emotional expression and sharing of art production can be seen from the exhibit. Artists role as the translator for their surroundings leans on the sensitivity and the sharpness of their visual observation. In other words, visual art knowledge moves to the point of subjective interpretation (Zanita Anuar, 2009). This exhibit, hopefully, will be a catalyst and can generally benefit art practices. Appreciate with an open mind and an open heart.

PINDAH#myknockofftoys 98/99 is an art that made as an Exclusive Product & Merchandise for Malaysian Cubprix Championship 2017/2018/2019 seasons and Aleyzo Racing team (based in Asia Pacific) in its first year of establishment in the small but specific market. From pictures on the internet it was translated to digital illustration and then designed and engineered becoming 3D puzzle form (current state).Now, there are 98 designs available and all are “Licence Free” for reproduction and sale. Almost all toys/replicas was requested by its owner and later approved for display, distribution and sale. It has also won Silver Medal in 2018 SLICE Exhibition. Despite the product and brand was built as a toy, it is also designed as educational product of the 21st century education. It is a toy that encouraged learning through play, promoting family engagement and developed patience & passionThe terms “Knock-off” means that a copy or imitation or fake or copied object (in this case, a toy), especially of an expensive product. #myknockofftoys is a “Direct Copy” of what is NOT in the market! A specially designed toys of “kapchai” in a form of 6 inch underbone racing bikes that stand itself as a playable 3D puzzle. Racing cars are making its way too. A cheap, light weight, safe and durable collectables item for racing bikes fans, riders and racing team.#myknockofftoys is a legacy in the making. A family-driven garage-type business in the large multi-billion toy industry and would one day become a household name,insyallah.

DHUYUFURRAHMAN An individual journey in spiritual migration and physical strength. A videolog documenting a personal journey in completing the 5th pillar of Islam - The Hajj. The video excerpt shows pilgrimage is an easy but insightful and challenging journey. We are temporarily moving from a place of residence to a relatively foreign state in terms of geographical, physical and climatic factors. For about 43 days, a dhuyufurrahman have to endure a challenging adventure in terms of emotional, mental and physical strength.

SEAS - inspired by Mark Rothko’s masterpiece. It is so very common spaces are essentials, the main foundation in life and they hardly attract attention―and yet they bestow our very existence. The sea — both wild and tranquil, treacherous and beautiful. The beginnings of life are blanketed in myth: Climate and weather, even the quality of the air people breathe, depend in great measure on interplay between the sea and the atmosphere in ways still not fully understood. Living miracles naturally generated from sea in the presence of light, though that could just as easily suggest random coincidence as a Divinity. With its enormity and unknown, has ever been part of human consciousness. As mystery gave way to mastery, whole bodies of custom, tradition and law arose defining the rights. Mystery of mysteries, sea right there before us. Every time I outlook the sea, I feel a reassuring and sedative sense of sanctuary; I embark on a journey of seeing and believing in Creator. Cyanotype printing process is one of the oldest and one of the first non-silver technologies processes in history of photography. Whatever the world of photography has achieved now it is because of the past processes that make it revolve and develop into the modern process. This process has their own uniqueness and strengths especially in natural contrast and natural detailing that will help to enhance the beauty of the image naturally. My process is controlled chaos. Experience has educated me the restrictions and limits of the technique. In effect my process lets go of that order and control, and the work is created in partnership with nature environment. This process will reflect the function of the sea; as the sea has its own uniqueness and strengths, it is also has a natural beauty that will mesmerizethe audience.

PINDAH - A Semi-realism work. A submissive herd of cows with its owner seemingly crossing a lake full of lotus leaves. Carefully treading as to not stepping on the leaves in their move to a green pasture for their own survival.

Lotus flower is a symbol of nature. Its shape and form are rooted in Malay tradition, as well as symbolizing Islamic teaching and the concept of the Creator. Lotus flower and its motifs have been used even before the arrival of Islam. The images in this work are personal metaphors and can easily be seen in this region.

USAH DILUPAThe old iron is embodied in this work to symbolize the connection between hard work and persistence in the ironing activity using an ember by our ancestors. It’s also represent the old Malay word ‘ Barang Yang Lama Dilupa Jangan’ to represent something new will not exist if there is no old one. If nothing is old, then nothing is new. Obviously, the look and the shape are different, but the function is the same. Therefore, let us learn to know where our origins are and respect the older ones. Be grateful for all the fun and things we have.

My photography is about reflections of the landmark buildings in Unisel which was made using DSLR. I was inspired by Henri Cartier Bresson, as he was the pioneer of photojournalism that applied the approach of art reflection for their visual messages. I wanted to create an image that would make people really feel the inner beauties of the subject. So I decided to make the reflections into digital printed to show the elements of art from the buildings.

I came up with an idea to show indirect good reputations from the colourful buildings. I find the planning for the future while reflecting on the current, as many people know about Unisel rather than the past rumours. Visualizing what institution that you want to achieve or the person you want to be can be a great motivation to make you think more positive until you reach the destination. But wanting and desiring good vibes means that we are in a constant state of resistance to reality. Trying to create a good vibes life, especially after struggled with a lot of sadness, loss, and hatredin the past.

PINDAH (HIJRAH)The urge to create Art has been with people throughout history and civilization. The visual art such as paintings and sculpture satisfy human requirement and needs for individual expression and visual communication. We use visual art such as through paintings to enhance our learning institutions and its environment to express our deepest feelings about life, studies, research and to record events. So artworks tell us about everything. A dutch artist, Van Gogh painted more than the colors he saw and experience. He used colors in his paintings to express how he felt and apply paint in short, layered strokes to create a sense of movements. Van Gogh also use texture to replicate his love for nature.The theme of my artwork is “PINDAH (MOVING FOR SHAH ALAM TO BESTARI JAYA CAMPUS)” - a “pop artism moving my “whole brain” to free my minds from the uncertainty and controlled feelings of “Pindah” repreensting my feelings and emotions of the uncluttered details to the big picture. “Pindah” is a graphic represntation from the philosophy to the various linkages of “Department of Visual Arts” - the historical through the existance of the present art school in Unisel.

CIPHERThis painting is drawn on the positive segment of cartesian coordinate system which approached the surrealistic style of artwork that depicts an interpretation of the subconscious mind. In Sigmund Freud’s theory, this behavior that characterizes my personality and emotion is balanced between the ego, id and super ego. Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis is used to diagnose and treat human beings’ personality in discovering what lays behind specific traits and dispositions of determined behavior, marked out by individual characteristic. The important part of this painting is the unconscious mind slips its thin line between the subconscious energy of a psychopathic personality that governs by the superego where the anxious behavior emerged when ego maintains the balance between parapraxes. This painting describes a personal behavior that is said to be mentally sound with hidden prophetic symbols that encodes the story of rebirth.

KITA ORANG ASALCompilation of visual montage, on the customs and cultures of several of the Indigenous people (18 sub-tribes in total) of Peninsular Malaysia, still being practiced and preserved, for heritage to their future generations. All these customs and beliefs have strong ties and bonding with the natural environment that surrounds their everyday living, deep in the tropical rainforest of Peninsular Malaysia.

They are now under pressure of present development and modernization, and also are inevitably confronted with exposure to foreign information from the outside urban world, which may disturb and threatened their present cultural balance, especially amongst the vulnerable young generation that will be the future leaders of the community. If unchecked, this may lead to identity-conflict, where they will be unable to attain full modem living, and also has at the same time forgotten about their current natural and cultural indigenous heritage.
