DESCRIPTION
Vacuum sewerage is a mechanized system of wastewatertransport. Unlike gravity flow, it uses differential airpressure to move the wastewater. It requires a centralsource of power to run vacuum pumps which maintainvacuum on the collection system . Thesystem requires a normally closed vacuum/gravityinterfacevalveat each entrypointtosealthelinessothatvacuum is maintained. These valves, located in a pit,open when a predetermined amount of wastewateraccumulates in the collecting sump. The resultingdifferential pressure between atmosphere and vacuumbecomes the driving force that propels the wastewatertowards the vacuum station.TRANSCRIPT

1. Collection Chambers / Interface Units
Function of collection chamber and interface units. Addition of air. Working of interface valve. Interface valves are membrane type. Diameter restricted to prevent clogging. Collection chamber at each house.

Vacuum sewer line work on the elevation profiles i.e. high or low points.
Flow situations cannot be described by hydraulic laws.
Conveyance take place by means of two phase regime.

2. Vacuum Lines / Hydro- pneumatic Transport
The starting movement of sewage bulb. when the sub pressure is strong enough, sewage portion will be shifted over the next peak in the form of a bulb

Gradual flow of sewage by “tooth by tooth” mechanism to the vacuum station.
Movement of each bulb changes the pressure situation for the next bulb. Usually HDPE or PVC pipes used. Inspection pipes at every 100m.

3.Vacuum StationWORKING
Wastewater and air is driven to a collection tank at the vacuum station.
Vacuum generators maintain vacuum in the tank. Only place where energy required. Vacuum station consists of rotary vane vacuum pumps
and sewage pumps. Vacuum pump maintains negative pressure. Vacuum pumps run only for few hours a day.

Operation and Maintenance Vacuum systems are reliable and nearly trouble
free. Visual inspection at regular interval of collection
pits. Regular visit to the vacuum station required.
