To act as Technical and administrative head of theInvestigational Laboratory; to cause to analyse samples ofpesticides, submitted by the authorized officers of theCentral and State Government , for investigational andverification purpose and provide their results, to validatethe methods of analysis of pesticides before registrationand their adoption by the Bureau of Indian Standards asthe approval/ official methods of analysis; to causetechnical audit to state pesticides testing labs; to attendwork incidental to the functioning of the InvestigationalLaboratory; and to attend any other assigned by the Headof the Department / Administrative Ministry.

(iii) Joint Director(Chemistry)

Responsibility of Head of the Division of Chemistry inCentral Insecticides Laboratory / Registration Division.Organizing and supervision of pesticides quality controland pesticides residue 'analysis work, To plan, guide andsupervise developmental work m the subject, tocorroborate with the pesticides manufacturing units fordevelopmental work towards quality assurance, Tocoordinate with various agencies: i) in the formulation ofIndian Standards for Pesticides and their Formulations, ii)in the evaluation of the extent of contamination due topesticides residues and establishment of tolerance limits,To : prepare technical materials for various aspects of.Chemistry of pesticides and their shelf life for theenforcement of the Insecticides Act, 1968; To check,scrutinize, verify various data requirements in the field ofChemistry of pesticides and their formulations, To carryout such investigations as may be necessary for thepurpose of ensuring the conditions of Registration ofInsecticides.

To assist the Plant Protection Adviser in policy planningfor extending guidance to the Centre/States on variousaspects of Pest Management in Plant Protection, To guideand coordinate collection of technical information· fromnational and international literature on different aspects ofinsect-pest problems and their control, To plan, guide,supervise, coordinate and implement the programmes onBiological controljIPM of crop insect pests and weeds, To'formulate policies for regional, national and internationalcooperation for IPMjPest Surveillance, regionalization andtraining of technical staff, To assist the Plant Protection

Analysis of pesticide, residues, active metabolites and foodcommodities by latest physic-chemical methods. Research& development work on modern instrumental methods forpesticides analysis. Determination of pesticidescontamination III the environment. National surveys onresidue analysis to determine the extent of contaminationof food and food commodities and assist in establishmentof tolerance limits. National surveys on quality control ofpesticides formulations held III the market as per ISIspecifications and Training of Analysis III moderntechniques of pesticides analysis.

(vi) DeputyDirector (PlantPathology)

To supervise and coordinate technical and administrative workof the respective Stations, Units, and Divisions of theDirectorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage,Directing and supervising the work relating to Pest-surveillance,Plant Protection (including aerial spraying) and integrated pestmanagement, quarantine, planning and co-ordination anddocumentation work, To collection, collation and disseminationof information on various aspects of pests surveillance, PlantProtection (including aerial spraying), integrated pestmanagement, quarantine and documentation. To compile andcollate the information on agricultural pests diseases and weedsat National level and to prepare critical notes on plantprotection activities, To look after the publication and graphicwork of the Directorate, To organize training programmepertaining to the surveillance, integrated pest management andquarantine work, To formulate and process Plan proposals inthe Central sector and to vet the proposals form Statesregarding plant protection works and to prepare specialprogramme and pilot projects for extending plant protectionwork. To scrutinize periodical progress reports of the States. Toprepare critical notes on plant protection for the use of CentralTeams, Ministers and others visiting various States, To assistthe Plant Protection Adviser to the Govt. of India in the co-ordination of plant protection work in the country. Toundertakequarantine inspection, identification and control of pathogens inthe imported plant materials, To develop and standardizetechniques for detection of seed borne pathogens and virus inimported plant materials and develop methods for their effectivecontrol including post- entry quarantine. Any other technical oradministrative duties that may be assigtled from time to time.«r:

Bio-efficacy of pesticides against pests in Laboratory andfield. Determination of minimum effective dosage, Phy-toxicity of pesticides and their formulations, Compatibilitywith other chemicals for effectiveness including synergism.,

Translocation within the plant or animal treated,Development and evaluation of vegetable origin pesticidesincluding that of indigenous ongm, Development ofresistance of pesticides in different insects etc. and thedevelopment of suitable remedial measures, Developmentof Bio-assay techniques for quality control whereapplicable, Any other duties that may be assigned fromtime to time.
