This month began on a surprisingly
pleasant note as our honourable
PM Shri Narendra Modi visited
Africa. Co-incidentally, the team of
Vaastuyogam was in Africa just a few
days before Modiji arrived. The team
met with several successful Indo-
Africans who have blossomed in the
last couple of years and are working
hard towards developing the largest
continent in the world. This issue of
Vaastuyogam features an exclusive
cover story on the Yajnas.

reintroduced Logo Analysis section,
this month we have analysed the
very popular logo of leading fast food
brand McDonald’s. Read all about
their inception, their history and their
success story with a side of their
famous French fries!
We also got the privilege to interview
Mr Rajesh Shah, a dynamic Kenya
based entrepreneur. It was fun
in te rac t ing w i th someone as
knowledgeable and as down to earth
as him.
My regular column on Vaastu is
about South Facing properties and
the South direction in general. It is
one of the most powerful directions.
I have described it in greater
detail in the issue for your ease of
understanding.
We have also featured numerology
about people born under the number
‘2’. The last issue, with the analysis of
number ‘1’ people was much
appreciated and we got a lot of
positive feedback for the same.
I would like to thank you from the

he word Yajna comes from the
Troot - ‘yaj’ which means
to worship. The English
equivalent of the word is ‘sacrice’.
Although it has several implications,
Ya jna broadly inc ludes three
signicant elements: worshipping gods
as an act of gratitude, realizing a close
proximity with God and, embracing
daan or giving as a way of life.
We deeply owe the environment
and nature our existence and
sustenance in the sense that it is they
who provide us with air to breathe,
food to eat and water to drink. In
return of these, we perform Yajna as
an act of worship with reverence,
gratitude and offerings.

COVER STORY
VAASTUYOGAM
From Dr. Ravi Rao’s Desk:
Traditionally the rst Yajna reported to have done was
based on Vedic rituals. Vedas were the ones who
created God and they explained how to reach and
communicate with God. Vedas are followed by
Upanishads, Puranasand other Vedangas. With
modernisation, we tend to face several problems in
life. There are several solutions based on traditional
methods. Yajnas are the only source, according to
me, to get relieved from the pains in the modern day.
In olden times, Yajnas were thought to be for
common good and were conducted by Rishis on
behalf of kings. They would benet common man as
well as the overall happiness to the kingdom. They
were at peak during the Ramayan period.
In the modern times, not many people appreciate
these are everyone is always busy looking for
shortcuts! If one wishes stability and sustainability in
one’s life… Yajnas are the sole solution providers
prescribed by Vedic methods.
I have been experimenting for the past 15 years in
various companies facing nancial issues or legal
issues; where I composed Yajna as per their situation
and explained the Rutwiks about conducting them
on the right date at the right time with reference to the
planetary charts of the family members and the
company for best effects. The entire rituals are
carried out with Vaastupurusha, Laxmi and Nava
Grahas. The entire process is divided into a morning
to evening activity and the results seem to be very
good over a period of last one decade.
It is good to see modern man and modern corporate
seeking solutions through these traditional methods
of Yajna for their day to day problems. Our mission is
to take this activity globally very soon.
VAASTUYOGAM
FULFILLMENT OF DESIRES
Our cultural Indian ritualistic tradition
advocates the application of the
science of Yajna to serve several
purposes, predominant ly, the
fullment of specic desires.
Indra: The God of nourishment is
invoked in order to gain power,
prosperity and wealth. Prajapati is
invoked for those in need of children.
The Sun God replenishes cosmic
energy. Mother Earth is invoked to
provide nourishment to all. Goddess
Aditi is invoked for good and
heavenly bliss. Shankara confers
knowledge.
A Yajna is performed for greater good
rather than an individual desire.
YAJNA & CLASSICAL
LITERATURE
Our scriptures have valued the
Yajnas above all… be it the Vedas,
t h e Upanishads, the Bhagavad
Gita, the Ramayana, the Srimad
Bhagavatam and other Mahapuranas.
The Vedas, comprising Rig, Sama,
Yajur and Atharva, maintain Yajna to
be the ultimate spiritual act. The Yajur
Veda describes Yajna as the greatest
benefactor of the human race,
bestowing life, wealth, food, energy,
prosperity and happiness. In Yajna
lies the secret of achieving excellence
in life, it says.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Yajna is related
to the law of cause and effect.
Sustenance of life depends on ample
production of food crops and fruits,
and this is possible only when there is
abundant rainfall. (Even today people
attribute scanty rainfall to inauspicious
deeds committed by humankind.)
Hence, Yajna is accepted as a way of
life in that it is performed as an act of
gratitude for the blessings received,
and the performers of Yajna offer part
of their earnings as Havito the gods.
Krishna tells Arjuna that the results of
Yajna are equivalent to nectar, which
when drunk by yogis elevates them to
a state of perennial bliss. It is said that
all actions, excluding Yajna, are the
cause of bondage and it is only
through performance of Yajna that
one attains liberation from the
bondage of karma. Yajna is also
related to the act of creation by
Brahma. The whole cosmos is
created out of Agni Tattwa (the re
element), which is the greatest
scientic application of Yajna,
establishing the fact that re or light is
the quintessence of creation.
The epic Mahabharata is replete with
examples testifying that Yajna was an
indispensable activity for kings and
emperors. In the Shanti Parva,
there are numerous stories of
Ashvamedha Yajna being performed
by virtuous kings and emperors.

KINDS OF YAJNA
Yajnas can be broadly classied into
Vedic or Tantric, depending on the
rituals. The main kinds of Yajnas are:
Paka Yajna: In which food is offered
as oblationary material
Havi Yajna: Oblation material is other
than food
Pancha Maha Yajnas: This includes:
a. Brahma Yajna: Where the body,
wealth, mind and emotions are
surrendered to the creator
b. Deva Yajna: Where offerings are
made to various deities.
c. Pitri Yajna: Where obeisance is
paid to our forefathers and
superiors
d. Manushya Yajna: Where the
essence is service to humanity
and,
e. Bhoota Ya jna : Mean t fo r
appeasing lower species.
RajasooyaYajna: In ancient India
Rajasooya Yajna was an integral part
of the political and administrative
system, as it was the deciding factor
as to who was qualied to govern a
state. State policies and activities of
royal ofcers were evaluated and
complaints were attended to rectify
past errors. Rajasooya Yajnas
brought together the ruler and the
ruled.
Vajapeya Yajna: This Yajna was
performed in earlier times with the
objective of maintaining harmony

enlightened sages and spiritual
mendicants from different parts of
the land. They exchanged views

Vishwajeet Yajna: This Yajna was
performed with the objective of
unifying the entire human race into
one single world community. The

is that love, not war, is instrumental

an undisputed sovereign was
considered qualied to conduct this
because it required almost two whole
years. Before the Yajna, the royal
horse, which signies the power and
sovereignty of the king, was sent to
different kingdoms.
Those who accepted the sovereignty
allowed the horse to pass through. If
the horse was captured, it was seen
as a challenge for the king to prove
his strength and power. When the
horse came back unopposed, it was
a clear sign of the sovereignty of the
monarch. This enabled him to
establish his empire on a rm basis.

THE ECOLOGY &YAJNA
The entire process of a Yajna,
consisting of chanting mantras,
lighting the sacricial re and offering
Havito gods in the form of Cow Ghee,
Vanaspati and other objects, puries
the environment signicantly.
Even today, Yajnas have been
successfully performed to induce
rainfall, to check the spread of
epidemics, and so on.
Yajna is a process of give and take.
Offerings are made to gods and they
bestow blessings in turn. This is how
the cosmic balance and order is
maintained. Underlying all of this is
t he un i t y b e tw een a l l f o r ms
of creation and their essential
relationship with the One who is
above all, realized through the
process of Yajna.
Poornatpoornamudachyate
From full, the full is taken, the full
has come.
Daan or Giving away willfully forms an important part of yajna. As per our Vedas, it is mentioned that one must give daan of things that have been earned by him in the form of God's Prasad. It should be given in the name of god like a “Prasad” where the person giving it is the only medium of delivering it to the end beneciary.Daan means offering something that is priced by a person unconditionally to the receiver.

contradictory but a valid
statement. As mentioned in our

negative for certain activities. For

property etc. But do not forget it is
one of the most powerful directions -
it is the direction associated with
absolute power and political or
commercial strength.
Most of the upcoming new cities, as

The South Direction can prove to be
inauspicious to houses for some
very simple reasons. According to
Vaastu, water bodies in the southern
direction can make it tricky to plan
houses. One needs to take utmost
care in buying or designing south

approximately 7 out of 10 available

market that are for sale/lease, face
the South or West direction.
The exact South direction is a thin
line that divides the South East and
the South West. If the entrance to a
home is exactly towards the south, it
can give bad results. However, if the
entrance of an institution (Public /
Government body) faces South
direction, it is deemed alright
according to Vaastu.
South is an ideal direction for the
lord of the house so remember, the
master bedroom is the best place in
the South west. South is also an
ideal direction for sleeping - one
must keep head towards south while
sleeping.

Vaastuyogam’s team met up with
Mr. Rajesh Shah who is a successful
Kenyan businessman. From plastic
manufacturing, Mr. Shah has now
ventured into properties. He shares
his tryst with Vaastu and how his
story convinces people to adapt it.
Read on...
Our readers would love to
know about you, Mr. Shah.
So let us start with a brief
introduction
My name is Rajesh Shah and I am
based in Nairobi where I was born
and brought up. We have got a family
based plastic manufacturing industry
in the city which is run by brother
Vinay and me.
How are things at the
Business end?
It could not be any better and most of
the credit goes to Vaastu. It was in the
year 2004 when I was introduced to
Dr. Ravi Rao by my very good friend
Ashit. When I met him, he came to my
factory rst and then he went to both
my village houses. He made a very
big list of changes for my house and
a very small list for Vinay. He advised
me to sell my house which I did within
a week. Ever since, my graph has just
gone up and my balance sheet is
good.
My brother Vinay never used to
believe in Vaastu but has now started
believing in it. Vaastu has been the
reason behind our success and
relaxed lives. We used to start work at
7 AM and work till 7.15 in the evening.
However, after implementing Vaastu,
the biggest benet I feel is that our
working hours have reduced by a
great extent. Today, we start at 7 AM
but wind up by 3 PM, or latest by
4 PM. The quality time we get to
spend with our family and the ease of
functioning at work has been a big
soothing factor.
How would you describe
Dr. Ravi Rao in your words?
Dr. Rao - dynamic and phenomenal
are the words that come to me He
has become an integral part of all our
projects and we don't commence
any project without his authorization.
We see to it that he visits us and has a
meal with us on his every visit to
Nairobi.
Can you tell us about your
business?
We make polythene bags, industrial
bags, tubing and sheeting. We
started our company (King Plastics)
in the year 1996. It has been an
incredible 20 years journey.

moment he entered the plot he asked
me, “How many deaths have
happened in this plot?” That is when
it struck me, that we had lost eight
near and dear ones, the last one
being my father. He alarmed me by
saying that we must vacate this place
at the earliest as it would prove to be
fatal/disastrous to me as well. My
mother who was the witness to all
untimely demises of family members
supported my decision. Some of my
relatives thought I was in a nancial
stress and had to convince them by
making some excuses. I nally sold it
in a record time of 7 days &today, I
am very thankful that I did so.
How do you convince people
who do not believe in Vaastu to
believe in it?
I have friends and family who have
seen me progress and attain peace
and harmony at work and at home.
My graph of success explains it all.
Today, my story is a testimony for
them. It compels them to believe in
the ancient science of Vaastu.
Would you l ike to give a

believing in Vaastu. It is essential and
it helps bring peace in all spheres of

Vaastu to bring in that much required
harmony with your environment and
reap the benets.
Are your major buyers from
Kenya?
Yes. 70% of our products are
consumed in local market and the
rest 30% is exported.
What countries do you export
to?
We mainly export to the neighboring
countries of Sudan, Burundi, Uganda
etc.
Any plans for expansion out of
Africa?
Currently we have no plans of
expansion outside Africa. We have
now diversied our business into
properties. We build warehouses.
Until date, we have done 3 such
projects where we have tied with big
Corporates for leasing of these
warehouses.
How does it work? You buy
apiece of land and then
construct on it?
Yes, we identify a plot and send the
drawings to Dr. Rao. Once he has
studied and given his approval, we
go ahead and procure the property.
We build it based on his inputs.
You said that Dr. Rao gave you a
really long list of things that you
needed to change in the house
and can you tell us about the
list?
That was my rst house. Actually

When I took

They seek an ideal partner who is

great sense of promptness and

this hastiness puts them in trouble at
times; and they miss out on crucial
