VENUE SUMMARY/STRATEGIC PURPOSE
4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art 4A is an initiative of the Asian Australian Artists Association, a non‐profit organisation established in 1996. 4A is a national peak body organisation for contemporary Asian art and cultural thinking in Australia. 4A is committed to Asian and Australian cultural exchange, creating professional opportunities for artists at all stages of their careers for the production, presentation and documentation of their work. 4A is located on two floors of an historic building in Sydney's Chinatown. We present a continuous exhibition program supplemented with talks, seminars and public projects. Through our contemporary art program, we aim to develop creative and productive partnerships between artists, organisations and the community. 4A is a hub for cross-cultural discussion and debate.
The objectives of 4A are to:
• Explore, present, research, and document the impact of Asian cultural thinking and contemporary art practice
• Provide pathways and opportunities for young and emerging artists and curators to develop their work, professional links and careers
• Offer a creative space that is inclusive, innovative, cross-cultural and attractive to a diverse range of age groups and individuals
• Be a community ‘hub’ for cross-cultural interaction, discussion and debate • Foster international links and pathways which lead to artistic exchange and dialogue around
contemporary art in the Asian-Australian context

We are embarking on a major capital project that will see the existing site transform into a major hub for contemporary Asian –Australian art and culture in Australia as culture in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region begins to operate in an increasingly complex environment. This project is at initial stages with a preliminary feasibility study completed. The development of the site is more than just bricks and mortar, but a strategy that will see 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art be a dynamic site at the heart of Asian-Australian Contemporary art, build a greater awareness of its identity and expand its connections through a heightened awareness of its programs and activities and achieve financial stability and enhance the ability to increase and diversify income and support.

• Investment in theatre resources (current equipment and new) such as lighting, rigging, audio, staging system including skirting, haze machines, tarkett, truss lighting, truss, mobile lighting desk (laptop, program etc) projectors and other visual arts equipment.
• Basic audio and lighting package for Bay 17 (theatre). • Re surface floor in Bay 17. Currently sprung flooring is uneven and surface is splitting. • Investment in the current theatre seating banks (ability to manoeuvre/retract & remove easily etc). At the moment this is very labour intensive and
therefore costly to clients. • Installation of appropriate exhaust and air‐conditioning systems into the Tracks to enable ticketed performances (meet licence requirements). • Installation of appropriate exhaust system in Bay19 to enable ticketed performances (meet licence requirements). • Better quality audio and acoustic setup in foyer spaces. Foyer audio to be theatre specific to enable better announcements. • Ability to provide adequate exhibition lighting in both foyer and exhibition space (Bay19). • Soundproof Bay20 (theatre). • Additional lockable storage facilities (cages) in back of house areas. • Production office to be built above existing laundry in the back of house area. • A water‐tight building. • Increased parking facilities and improvements to current car‐park and car entry via 229 Wilson St (re‐surfacing, lighting and signage).

VENUE NAME: Kudos Gallery
VENUE SUMMARY/STRATEGIC PURPOSE
Kudos Gallery enables a professional space for COFA artists and designers to explore and present their work beyond the realm of the studio. From the raw energy of a first year, to the well traversed conceptual level of a PhD student, Kudos presents a diverse program of solo, group and curated exhibitions that are open to the public. Located in the heritage listed St Sophia Hall, Kudos Gallery is a space run by COFA students for COFA students and has been running since 1998. Now funded by Arc@UNSW Ltd, Kudos Gallery offers a supportive environment for students to showcase their ideas and take risks whilst developing an exhibition profile at university.
