This is one of the most exciting times in TriVita’s history! The testimonies of people experiencing greater wellness with Nopalea are just off the charts. They are truly astonishing, remarkable and life-changing. You will read about some of them in this edition of the VitaJournal, but there are thousands more people experiencing lower inflammation, which has lessened health conditions that have been robbing them of their quality of life. An example would be my dear friend James Robison, who has been such a great inspiration to many people worldwide with

his television show and humanitarian relief efforts for people who live in dire poverty. He said, “Michael, I am living pain-free for the first time in 30 years.”

It is because of the Nopalea impact that we are expanding beyond North America to Australia and New Zealand. We are launching there in February 2011. I was so pleased to welcome Todd Rimmer as our new National Sales Manager in Australia. This is a picture of us shaking hands in agreement about helping Australians experience greater wellness. Todd loves the mission of TriVita, and wants to help expand the wellness message of TriVita “down under.” Todd is married to Samantha, and has two young daughters, six-year-old Olivia and two-year-old Sophie. You will be seeing reports and testimonies of soon-to-be Members in Australia and New Zealand, about how they too are experiencing the Nopalea effect!

The September healthy aging theme is one of the most intriguing subjects we deal with in the VitaJournal. It is one of my most inspiring thoughts each day, as I have passionate ideas of what I would like to accomplish in the next 36 years leading up to my 100th birthday. No guarantees for sure, but doing the right things for the right reasons sure does help one live out their life purposes!

Ben Franklin, the sage and inventor said, “Wish not so much to live long as to live well.” I want to do both, but Uncle Ben’s conclusion is what I have come to believe about aging from interacting with many people who are over 50. If you are aging with wellness, it is a wonderful stage of life. Unfortunately, many people are not making adjustments to their lifestyles with healthy aging in mind and rather than golden years, they are experiencing years of misery. I believe that can change.

Part of healthy aging is recognizing you must do things differently than in your younger years. George Burns, who lived to be 100, had many humorous quotes about aging such as, “You know you are old when you stoop to tie your shoes and wonder what else you can do while down there.”

Aging is not lost youth, but rather a new stage of opportunities. When developing a healthy aging plan, attach a healthy attitude about the changes one must make in life and embrace them like a new opportunity; you will be surprised at what it brings. Sometimes aging is like attempting to do something that can be frustrating, but only because you have never done it before. You only get to age once so why not enjoy it?

With healthy aging comes the opportunity of new ways of thinking about things we have done our entire lives. One example is the way we think about foods. There is always the joy of experimentation, but food must also be looked at as fuel for the various body systems. Watch young people eat: they eat what they want, when they want, and may not appear to suffer proportionately to their uninformed nutritional decisions. But continue that through 60+ years and many diseases and weakened conditions may result.

When thinking of food for healthy aging one must think of the consequences of their food choices. For example, eating fewer calories will help lengthen my days of living well. Someone said that the idea is to die young but as old as possible. Eating the right foods for the body systems and fewer calories is one of the greatest contributions you can make to your healthy aging process.

ON MY MINDEDITOR’s NOTE

Being the mother of three daughters, the words “You just wait until you’re a grandparent” were something

I’d heard from others who have experienced the joy of grandparenting. But if someone had told me a few years ago that Grandparents Day was celebrated in September, I wouldn’t have had a clue, nor would I have cared. With the constant battle to hold on to youth, the thought of someone even calling me “grandma” made me cringe a little. Surely I was too young to be in this category!

However, now that my daughter, Brittany, blessed me with Harper Grayson, I stand amongst the ranks of the proud grandparents! I’ll never forget the day she called me and asked if I was sitting down and then went on to say, “Mom, your baby is having a baby!” I remember screaming with joy. I called everyone I knew and even told people I didn’t know!

Although my daughter and son-in-law live in New York, I was able to be there in time to witness Harper’s birth. This past June we celebrated Brittany’s graduation from medical school in the Caribbean. Harper had just learned to walk, and every morning he would wake up early, so I would pack him up and head out for a walk.

One morning I took him out to let him experience the beach and feel the ocean for the first time. There we were – just Harper and I alone on the beach. I’ll never forget the look on his face when his little feet felt the sand between his toes. He beamed up at me with a giant smile on his face. I felt a bond that I can’t explain. Seeing his little footprints in the sand next to mine and listening to the waves really put me in awe of just how magnificent our God is.

I’d like to nudge you this month: if your grandparents are still living, call or visit them — you have no idea how much it may mean to them. If you, too, are blessed with grandchildren, try your best to be a part of their lives. It will provide you and them with life long memories. Maybe you will never have grandchildren, or your grandparents have passed. Check out your local assisted living home and try “adopting”

Breaking the toxic cycle, regaining wellness balance

If you feel more stressed than you did, say, five years ago, about half the population is with

you. Whether the stress is mental, physical, emotional or environmental, it brings with it inflammation that can lead to premature aging. Stress in general contributes to poor relationships, affecting work and damaging health. First, it’s important to know the real physical effects that stress can have on our bodies. Over time, stress can lead to:

• Heartdisease• Glucoseintolerance• Nervousconditions• Immunesystemdisorders• Acuterespiratorydisease/asthma• Susceptibilitytocoldsandflu• Diabetes• Allergies• Depression• Osteoarthritis• Digestiveproblems…andseveral

other ailments

Stress in and of itself is not a bad thing. As

humans, we are designed to respond to it every day, sometimes with temporary bursts of energy that are natural and normal (the “flight or fight” response involved when hormones are released into our bloodstream). However, when chronic stress keeps us in a constant state of readiness, the body can become weakened and susceptible to disease.

Cells overwhelmed by inflammation

A certain amount of inflammation is actually necessary for healing, whether the damage is from injury, illness, toxins, nutritional deficiencies or stress. Think of what happens when you cut your finger. You may have redness (increased nutrients and proteins are carried by an increased blood supply to the injury site), swelling (additional plasma and healing proteins are brought to the site), pain (our signal to be careful of that area) and heat (white blood cells defending damaged tissue from microbes).

This cut finger example demonstrates homeostasis in action: the body tries to get all its systems back in balance by remodeling damaged cells. The redness, swelling, pain and heat gradually disappear. Once the healing process is complete, homeostasis returns the body to a natural, healthful state of balance.

However, when the body is “overloaded” with chronic stress and excess inflammation, it

can be literally worn down by the constant demands. Cells may become damaged beyond repair, and we can literally become old before our time, falling victim to both mental and physical problems.

Controlling stress and inflammation

Sometimes, we can be overwhelmed by the various types of stress that come with everyday life. These include mental stress, such as over-work; physical stress, such as exercising more than usual; emotional stress, as when we’re having relationship problems, and environmental stress from pollutants in our environment and food supply.

Let’s look at just one type of stress – emotional – to see how the brain and body respond. Suppose you get a letter from the government tax office saying you owe $40,000. Even if you have that kind of cash lying around, you’re going to feel stressed. Your brain will release chemicals called catecholamines that trigger inflammatory processes. One might be the release of insulin, a pro-inflammatory hormone. Too much stress over an extended time period will cause insulin resistance, which is associated with obesity. That obesity (which itself creates inflammation) triggers the body to produce another pro-inflammatory hormone called cortisol, which creates more stress, and so on and so on.

Clearly, then, controlling stress will help break this cycle of inflammation, and help the body return to its natural, balanced state.

Keys to stress management

The first step toward managing stress is to identify the things in your life that are causing it: marital problems, work pressures or illness in the family. Once you identify and understand these stressors, you can begin to find ways to change your environment and manage them.

Support groups, exercise and certain nutritional supplements may help modify the levels of stress hormones and help the mind and body to re-balance. Try these techniques to help reduce stress:

• Practicethe10EssentialsforHealthandWellness (see page 2).

• Enjoyphysicalactivityeveryday.

• Eatnutritiously, emphasizingfruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein.

• Seekoutfriendstotalkto, ortakestepstobuild your social support network.

• Taketimeouteachdaytositquietly and peacefully.

• Tryrelaxationtechniquessuchasyogaanddeep breathing.

• Avoidexcessalcohol.

If stress continues to be a problem despite your best efforts, don’t hesitate to ask your healthcare provider for help. After all, controlling stress, inflammation and the wear-and-tear they create is key to enjoying health and life for as long as possible.

We all forget things sometimes: where we parked the car, a lunch

appointment or why we opened the refrigerator. When these “sometime” lapses become daily occurrences, though, that can be a sign that it’s time to consult a healthcare professional. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these questions can help determine if that time has come:

Does the memory loss disrupt daily life? If tasks that used to be routine, such as balancing a checkbook or bathing, become difficult, action should be taken.

Are lapses becoming more frequent? It isn’t normal to forget where you parked every day, or to forget appointments over and over.

What kinds of things are being forgotten? It’s fairly natural to forget the name of someone you just met, but not the name of a close friend or relative. Other potential tip-offs of trouble could be forgetting entire conversations, frequently repeating yourself or asking the same questions more than once in the same conversation.

Are there signs of confusion? If someone gets lost in a familiar place (such as your local grocery store), or frequently puts something in an oddly incorrect location (such as car keys in the refrigerator), that could be a sign of a serious memory problem.

Most members of the TriVita community won’t be surprisedtohearthatadeficiencyofVitaminB-12isamong the major causes of memory loss. Along with stress, certain infections and sleep deprivation, the FDAcites“nutritionaldeficiencies”ofVitaminB-12as one of the culprits behind faltering memory.

Of course, if you’ve been supplementing with SublingualB-12,youknowwhyyoucontinuetomake this smart health move. You may find that thisamazingvitaminhelpsyoustayupbeatandmaintain a balanced mood, keep energy levels steady throughout the day, stay mentally sharp and, yes, enhance memory. If you’re not among those who help“feedtheirbrains”withB-12,Iurgeyoutoconsider starting soon, for a host of reasons.

Are you at risk of B-12 deficiency?

If you’re over 40, a strict vegetarian, or have thyroid, liverorkidneyproblems,you’reatriskforB-12deficiency. As we age, our bodies may become less able to absorb some vitamins efficiently, especially inthecaseofVitaminB-12.WithoutenoughB-12,other vitamins like folate and B-6 cannot function normally within the body.

As a doctor, I know the importance of maintaining appropriate levels of these essential vitamins, especiallyVitaminB-12.That’swhyIapplaudthosewho supplement their healthy diets with TriVita SublingualB-12products,andencourageotherstosee how they might benefit, too.

For years, clinical evidence has been building to showthatthosewhohaveaB-12deficiencycanexperience symptoms caused by decreased mental and nerve functioning. These symptoms can include mental confusion and forgetfulness, mood swings andevenpsychoticbehaviorlikeseeingand/orhearing things.

Because of these associations, one of the first things I do when people complain of these problems is make sure they are getting enough of the essential vitamins likeB-12.

Unlike injections, or pills that you swallow, SublingualB-12dissolvesunderthetongue.That’sthe painless, easy way to make sure it gets into your bloodstream to give you maximum absorption and maximum benefit.

If you or someone you care about is showing signs of memory loss, I urge you to consult your healthcare professional to explore the options and resources available. And I also urge you to remember the research-provenbenefitsofB-12supplementation.They could make a big difference in so many lives.

“Before being introduced to Super Sublingual B-12, my despondency and fatigue had

gotten to the point where my doctor put me on a chemical prescription. I was taking these chemicals for 13 years. I knew it was the chemicals that were altering my thoughts, my decisions, and I prayed for a better way. My quality of life had greatly diminished; I knew there had to be something different.

Some friends at church shared their testimo-nial about TriVita’s Super B-12, and I knew that it was something I needed to try. Within a very short period of time I was completely weaned off medication. My quality of life has totally changed. I am not on any medication; I am totally on Super B-12. Now I enjoy life, I can make decisions, my thought processes are clear; my family sees a huge difference. My quality of life is awesome! 1 Betaine hydrochloride. Our bodies digest food less efficiently as we age because stomach acid declines. Betaine hydrochloride can support digestion when taken with meals and may be taken inconjunctionwithdigestiveenzymes.

2 Vitamin B-12.InsufficientVitaminB-12levels can lead to fatigue, brain fog and a higher riskofheartdisease.VitaminB-12isparticu-larly hard to absorb as we age, so a sublingual supplement is recommended.

3 Magnesium and calcium. Both of these are essential to prevent and reverse osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis) and osteoporosis. Supplementing with 400 milligrams of magne-sium citrate daily is a good way to go. Calcium needs increase by 20% afterage50;getting1,200milli-

grams daily is often recommended. Calcium and magnesium work together because magnesium stimulates a hormone for the bone to absorb calcium, and Vitamin D transports it (see below). Dark leafy greens and sea vegetables provide high amounts of both nutrients.

4 Vitamin D. Not only is Vitamin D critical for bone health, but it also decreases the chance of breast cancer. The most concentrated sources of natural Vitamin D are found in fatty fishes like tuna, herring, mackerel, salmon, sardines and anchovies, as well as egg yolks. If these foods are not high on your weekly intake list, a Vitamin D supplement is a great choice.

5 Protein. Include adequate protein in your diet (a minimum of 60 grams per day; more is better.) Choose foods that are rich in high-quality protein, such as organic eggs, free-range poultry and lamb and ocean wild-caught fish.

Proteindeficiencycancausedecreasedmuscle mass, fatigue and mental fog.

6 Avoid white sugar and flour. Many people know that white sugar and white flour products aren’t healthful, but simply switching to whole wheat isn’t enough. We must look at the ingredients in what we buy because sugar is in just about everything from condiments to cereal to pasta sauce. If sugar, cane juice (or evaporated cane juice), high fructose corn syrup, sucrose or brown sugar is in the top five ingredients in any product, leave it on the shelf.

7 The brighter the better. The brighter or darker in color your vegetables are, the more nutrient-dense they are. Eat at least 3 ½ cups of fresh vegetables daily to get your proper amount of antioxidants.

8 Water, fiber and salt. It is important to drink enough water when you are over 50 to keep fat and muscle in good balance. Shoot for at least half your weight in ounces daily. Fiber is important to keep you regularly and efficiently eliminating toxins. Try to get it through your diet versus supplementing with it. Ground flaxseed in smoothies, on salads and in soups is a great addition. Eat fewer processed foods because that is where the dangerous salts are. It’s okay to use Himalayan or Celtic sea salt on your food.

9 Sense of taste and smell may change. The senses of taste and smell interact closely, helping you appreciate food. They depend on a rich supply of themineralzinc.Thenumberoftastebudsdecreasesbeginning at about age 40 to 50 in women and at 50 to 60 in men. Like so many people, TriVita employees have experienced remarkable results with Nopalea. This month, Christine Anderly in the CARE Center shares the story of her wellness challenges, and how Nopalea has helped her thrive in both her work and personal life.

Job interviews are stressful for most people, but when Christine interviewed at TriVita last winter she had an extra worry: shaking

hands with her interviewer. That’s because a chronic skin condition made her hands cracked and red, and she was concerned about the impression she’d make.

While waiting for her interview, she picked up that month’s VitaJournal and was stunned. On the cover was Melissa M., a young woman who had suffered from the same itchy, sore patches ofredskinasChristinehadfor16years.“Ijustcouldn’t believe it; it was like reading about myself,” she recalls. Melissa’s remarkable improvement with Nopalea, the breakthrough wellness drink, gave Christine hope.

“You could say I was a little skeptical. After all, I had bought hundreds of dollars of skin care products over the years. Some would work for a week or two, but it always ended up the same: cracked, dry and bleeding hands and fingers,” says Christine. She got the job, and she got startedonNopalea, takingtheLoadingPhase of six ounces a day for the first 30 days. “Today, I am thrilled to say that my hands look and feel great!”

But Nopalea did more than help Christine’s hands. A few years ago, she contracted a viral infection that inflicted total body pain. “It hurt just to stand,” she recalls. At the worst point, by the time she walked to the top of the stairs to her apartment, “I would literally scream.

There were days that I had to miss work I was hurting so badly.”

After about two weeks on Nopalea, she made a joyful discovery: “I was looking down at my dog’s leash thinking, ‘It’s going to hurt bending over topickthisup,’butIdidit, andrealizeditdidn’thurt! And it just kept getting better. My neigh-borsnolongerthinkI’mcrazy,screamingatthetop of the stairs.”

Results for her sons and her mother, too

Christine treasures Nopalea for three more important reasons: the remarkable health improvementsenjoyedbyhersons,Cameron,18,andVinnie,17,plushermother,72.

Since the day he was born, Cameron has endured many open-heart surgeries. Today, he is on his second pacemaker. “I started giving him Nopalea to help reduce the inflammation he suffers from having been through so much all these years,” says Christine. “He is sleeping better and is in a much better mood. To find this relief in something that doesn’t hurt to take and thatheenjoys…that’spriceless.”

Severe migraine headaches have plagued Vinnie for four years, but since starting his Nopalea regimen, “he gets migraines less frequently, they’re much milder and they don’t last as long.”

AsforChristine’smother,72,shewas“allbutcrippled from inflammation, pain and swelling in her back before Nopalea.” Now, though, she spends more time in the garden that she loves, and has much less pain afterward.

“I am truly blessed not only because our health and daily lives are better,” says Christine, “but because I understand how lucky I am to have a job with such wonderful and caring people.” For those who wonder if Nopalea could help them, she has simple advice – and a reassurance. “Try it! It’s natural, it tastes great, and so many people have had incredible relief from pain and inflammation.Plus,TriVitaabsolutely honors its 60-day money-back guarantee. I know, I work here. So what do you have to lose besides your pain and suffering?”

TriVita’s commitment to good health is clearly represented byour10EssentialsforHealth

and Wellness. You will see them prominently displayed and promoted in every VitaJournal and catalog. However, this article is going to directly address the bad habits that are taking years off our lives. Numerous clinical studies show that certain behaviors directly affect longevity. For example, a recent study of 5,000 British adults over a

20-year period found that four common bad habitsagedthestudygroupby12years:smoking, drinking, lack of activity and poor diet. Death certificates from this large study group were checked for the next 20 years and the most common causes of death included heart disease and cancer, both related to unhealthy lifestyles.

Here are 10 bad habits that can actually take away years from

your life.

1 Cut corners when it comes to sleepBeing tired most of the time causes you to eat too much, drive recklessly and be irritable even in mild situa-

tions.Plus, lackofsleepcanalsoloweryour immunity. Get at least eight hours of sleep a night.

2 Eat lots of sugarFoods that contain lots of sugar will

quickly increase your blood sugar and give you quick energy bursts. This won’t last

long and when the sugar is gone debilitating exhaustion

often results. Eat healthy snacks instead, like

fiber-rich crackers or fruits.

3 SmokeAbout half a million Americans die each year from smoking-related health conditions. Smoking can also decrease your lung capacity and prevent you from enjoying healthy activities. Find professional support or a peer group to get rid of this bad habit.

4 Too little exerciseMany serious health conditions like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and arthritis are linked to a sedentary lifestyle. Your body is made to move, so avoid these conditions with moderate exercise. It should help increase energy and reduce stress. At least 30 minutes of physical activity per day is recommended.

5 Worrying too muchWorrying about something that we cannot change only creates more damage than good. If you have a problem, try to solve it proactively. If it can’t be solved, simply let it go.

6 Eating poor-quality foodJunk food or foods filled with chemicals and preservatives will definitely harm your health. Eat more fresh and natural foods.

7 Too much sun A moderate amount of sun exposure will help you look younger and give you healthy amounts of Vitamin D. However, too much sun will seriouslydamageyourskin.Prolongedsunexposure is responsible for premature aging of the skin and many skin cancers.

Why a Nopalea Loading Phase?

When taking Nopalea for the first time, drink 3 to 6 ounces each day, for 30 days. This Loading Phase is suggested to help your body contain and control the inflammation it has accrued. After all, your body’s state of inflammation did not happen overnight.

Imagine that excess inflammation is spreading like a forest fire in your body, and it’s out of control. By completing a Loading Phase of Nopalea, you can help ease the fire of inflammation more quickly by accelerating the cleansing and detoxification process, therefore helping to contain the inflammation. For maintenance, drink 1 to 3 ounces each day, but again, this depends upon your body’s inflammation-fighting needs.

Nopalea is food based, so taking more can be beneficial to you, as you are feeding your body the nutrients it needs to help reduce runaway inflammation.

Nopalea™ can helpJust say NO to premature aging

Healthy aging is about

living long without being old. To reach that goal we need to take a brief look at the process called “biological aging.” Biological aging does not happen with the tick of the clock or the pages turning on your calendar:

it happens in your cells. During its life cycle, a cell may be damaged by exposure to:

• Toxins • Directtrauma • Nutrientdeficiencies • Stress

Each of these circumstances causes inflamma-tion and free radical production. Intense nutrition is needed to battle these causes of prematurecelldeath.Prematurebiologicalagingoccurs when more cells die than you can replace.

Fighting inflammation

The human body is designed to fight premature aging and remain young. A powerful force calledhomeostasismobilizesyourimmunesystem, hormones, nerves and other important systems to ignite the healing process. Homeostasis uses focused inflammation to

remodel your cells following injury, illness or even the extreme challenges of emotional stress. Once the healing process is complete, homeostasis extinguishes the fire of inflamma-tion and returns your body to a state of dynamic and vital balance – free from the effects of runaway inflammation.

However, there are times when your body cannot heal itself. If inflammation overwhelms a cell, it may be damaged beyond repair. Damaged, dead cells must be removed or they will become the focus of infection and illness. Betalains, a unique class of nutrients that is both an antioxi-dant and a protein, assist a special cell called a macrophage (literally “big eater”) to engulf the dead cell and eliminate it from your body. This makes room for a brand-new replacement cell and the cycle of wellness continues.

Nopalea – protects against premature aging

There are many things that contribute to premature aging, including:

• Excessexposuretothesun • Apoordiet • Stress • Inactivity

The most common contributors, however, are inflammation, muscle and joint pain and poor circulation. Since Nopalea targets inflammation, aidsdetoxificationandoptimizescellhealth, itcanhelp slow down the process of premature aging.

Daily servings of Nopalea will provide you with the Betalains that help put out the fire of inflammation and rescue cells under attack by free radicals. Further, Betalains act to clean up the dead cells and help to protect them from becoming a target for disease. Betalains help you thrive as they help your body reduce inflamma-tion and support the miracle of homeostasis.

Remember, premature aging is about losing more cells than we replace. Healthy aging is about closing the gap between loss of our cells and repair or replacement of our cells as directed by homeostasis and fueled by nutrients.

Nopalea is your premier wellness partner in your body’s never-ending quest for good health. To find out more about how Nopalea can help you, read the stories on pages 14-15 from those who have taken the Nopalea Wellness Challenge.

Myth: Women who do strength-training exercises will bulk up.

Truth: Women are not predisposed to extreme muscle mass so regular strength training will not lead to body-builder proportions. Strength training should be integrated into everyone’s exercise routine.

Myth: No pain, no gain

Truth: Pain is your body’s way of telling you something is wrong. If you feel pain while exercising, immediately lower your intensity or switch to a different exercise.

Myth: Stretching before exercise can help prevent injury.

Truth: The jury’s still out on the benefits of stretching before exercise, and some even think it may do more harm than good. If you do stretch before activity, be sure to warm up first.

Myth: Once you reach a certain age, you shouldn’t exercise

Truth: Exercise is beneficial for people of all ages and stages of life.

"I am totally shocked and amazed by what this product has done for me.”

"After five years of migraines, and about four years of constant fatigue and muscle pain, I am now pain-free. I used to also suffer from jaw pain. I can honestly say that unless you try Nopalea, you will not believe the change in your health and how good it feels to be without pain. I also have no more brain fog, think quicker and don’t have to grasp for words to finish my sentences.

My road to recovery started when my friend noticed me wincing from the pain on my face and told me about Nopalea. She said that it helps put out the fire of inflammation in the body. I trusted her and got my first bottle of Nopalea. Thanks to my friend, I could get back to work, do more things around the house, and spend time with family and friends. I don’t need any more naps during the day because of fatigue. I now have the energy to get more done, and have energy left over to exercise with my husband. I am totally shockedandamazedbywhatthisproducthasdone for me.

“My hand condition has really improved… I no longer feel pain… ”

“I have always worked on a computer keyboard, and often experienced pain and tiredness in my hands and wrists. In early 2000 I was diagnosed with the early stages of a common syndrome involving nerves in the wrist, and was told I might eventually need surgery. I did not want this to happen, so I tried all kinds of remedies to ease my pain.

Last year I heard about Nopalea and took the Nopalea Wellness Challenge to get relief from my inflammation and pain. In time I noticed my hands and wrists were not bothering me as much and that the condition was more manageable. After my recent medical check-up I noticed that my hand condition has really improved. I no longer feel pain even with my constant keyboarding work.

I shared this wonderful product with my husband, and he and I feel a general sense of well-being with Nopalea. It is a good feeling knowing we are doing the best thing: investing in our physical and mental wellness with TriVita products.”

“After taking Nopalea for two days, I began feeling much better.”

“Almost seven months ago, my doctor told me I had six months to live. I had had a severe allergic reaction and could not breathe... no one could see how I had made it to the hospital. After a week of treatments and staying in the hospital, I was sent home without much hope at all.

Unbelievably, this was actually the very first of five such events. I was watching television one day and I happened to stumble across the infomercial for Nopalea. So, I ordered the bottle, and you would not believe how much it helped me. After taking Nopalea for two days, I began feeling much better. My illness broke and I could breathe again. I mean I could REALLY BREATHE again!

The shallow ‘death's door’ complexion was gone from me and I began regaining my strength. The inflammation of my lung tissue was relieved very quickly after taking Nopalea. How can I ever express enough gratitude for that? I'm well on the way to recovery and I want to get the word out to everyone I know who suffers from pain and inflammation of any sort. I want to tell them keep a bottle of Nopalea on hand. It was a lifesaver for me, and it could be a lifesaver for a lot of other people. Thank you, TriVita.”

“I continually feel better when I am on Nopalea.”

“I hurt my neck in a sledding fall which resulted in pinched nerves, destroyed muscles and a stiff neck. I went to the chiropractor and he could not adjust me because I had way too much inflamma-tion. They gave me muscle relaxers to take in order to relieve my inflammation and pain, along with hours and hours of ice and electrical stimula-tion therapy. Even then, my chiropractor could not adjust me. Then I received my Nopalea shipment, and I drank it right away.

I chose not to take the muscle relaxer that night to see if it would help, and I slept much better. When I went back to the chiropractor, he adjusted me fully without any additional electric therapy. I was so impressed with Nopalea that I became an Affiliate Member. I am now on my fourth bottle of Nopalea and just love it. I continually feel better when I am on Nopalea. If I run out, I start craving it.

I have three small children and was never able to breastfeed. I was told that it is rare, but some people just cannot increase their breast milk, because of smaller ducts. Nopalea has helped reduce inflammation in my breast ducts that had been keeping me from my breast-feeding potential for years. It has definitely helped with both my breast-feeding and postpartum blues.”*

“Within just a few days of drinking Nopalea, I started seeing and feeling results.”

“I've struggled with pain for most of my life. I've prayed and taken doctors’ advice and prescription drugs, but the pain and side effects always came back. I tried many different supplements, but they never really delivered!

Then I discovered Nopalea. It looked really promising with tons of people getting relief from many different ailments. Nopalea tastes great and all I needed was a small amount just twice a day.

Well, within just a few days of drinking Nopalea, I started seeing and feeling results. My focus improved, and I now have an unbelievable amount of energy. I also noticed reduction in joint pain and an improved sense of well-being.

I used to get so stuffy that I could hardly breathe and suffered from sinus headaches. Since taking Nopalea, my sinuses are much clearer and I haven’t had any headaches.

My lungs are also better. I still have a ways to go, but Nopalea in only a few weeks, has given me hope for better days.”

What an amazing, eventful life Jerry Lee C. has led. The Chesapeake, Virginia

resident has packed a whole lot into his 66 years. And he’s not ready to hang up his hiking boots just yet. In fact, Jerry has more energy than many people half his age. “I’ve always been a goal setter,” Jerry states. “Many years ago I decided to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. There were lots of crises along the way, including an unwelcome visit from a black bear, bad weather, fellow hikers who fell by the wayside and harassment from a biker gang. It took me 16 years to complete the entire Appalachian Trail, but I’m proud to say I finally accomplished that goal.”

That was just a “warm-up” for even greater accomplishments. Jerry decided he wanted to climb the highest mountains in all 50 states. He has already climbed 46 of these peaks, and once climbed seven peaks in four days. Jerry has

saved the best for last, including Mount Hood in Oregon, Mauna Kea in Hawaii, Granite Peak in Montana and Denali in Alaska. He says, “I might be an older man, but I’m still a young mountain climber.” However, some of the unclimbed peaks are a big challenge for even the most experienced climbers. They require lots of preparation and even a mountain guide.

Super Sublingual B-12 – a valuable addition to any backpack

So, where does Jerry get all his energy? Obviously, he takes good care of himself and prides himself on eating right and avoiding cigarettes and alcohol. Jerry is also quick to credit TriVita’s Super Sublingual B-12 for his vast storehouse of energy. “In 2009 I saw an ad for TriVita and was very impressed by TriVita’s Original B-12 formula,” he remembers. “I placed an order and have since moved on to Super Sublingual B-12. It gives me lots of energy and stamina and has greatly improved my clarity of mind. I’m so excited about Super Sublingual B-12 – it’s just tremendous.”

Jerry has another more personal reason for appreciating Super Sublingual B-12. When his wife passed away from cancer, he went into a

spiral of despondency. “Anti-depressants weren’t getting it done,” Jerry says. “However, Super Sublingual B-12 really helped lift me out of my melancholy.” Because of Super Sublingual B-12’s great track record, he recently purchased several bottles of Nopalea™, and wants to see if it will help ease some of the inevitable aches and pains from a rigorous hike.

Marching to another impressive goal

In spite of his tremendous hiking and mountain climbing feats, Jerry is even prouder of his volunteer work. Like everything else in his life, Jerry never does things halfway. He is very active with the March of Dimes charity, and was team caption of his fundraising group for 27 years. During that time, the combined efforts of all the team members helped to raise over $1 million. Jerry was designated the March of Dimes Volunteer of the Year in Virginia in 2008, which he considers one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.

He is quick to point out the concrete results of his hard work and diligence. March of Dimes has helped save over 10 million babies due to premature birth. This is an especially serious issue in the United States, where over 500,000 premature babies (many with serious health issues) are born every year.

The unstoppable Jerry

While so many people spend their “golden years” channel-surfing on the couch, Jerry is still going full force and kicking up dust on many more mountain trails. He plans on going to the Philippines to climb Mount Pinatubo. Jerry also has those remaining four peaks on his “to do” list. As Jerry says, “We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing. There’s just no quit in me.” So, why does he keep mountain climbing? According to Jerry, “My world begins where the pavement ends.”

This mountain climber credits Super Sublingual B-12 for his incredible energy and stamina

“Since taking Nopalea, I can say that my condition has significantly gotten better.”

“I have just completed the Nopalea Loading Phase and I can safely say that the results are amazing. I have always been into alternative treatments and natural medicine, but I have never seen anything work this fast. I have a growth in my neck and the typical treatment is to cut the thyroid in half and dissect the growth. Generally, my voice will clog up, I will cough all day and I’m not able to swallow easily. “The evening Wellavoh vitamins have made an amazing difference for me!”

“I started taking the Wellavoh daily multi-nutrient complex to get more complete nutrition. At the time, I was not sleeping well and my energy level was pretty low as a result.

At this point, you will not find me without my Wellavoh vitamins; not only for the morning but

the evening! The PM Wellavoh vitamins have made an amazing difference for me! They allow me to relax, calm my mind down and get to sleep within literally 30 minutes after taking them!

“After four days of taking TriVita’s Super Sublingual B-12, I no longer needed naps.”

“I have been a vegetarian who eats fish for about five years. In my pursuits of wellness, I found that my diet seriously lacked the B-12 vitamin. I began supplementing with other B-12 brands from the drug store. This has been the case up until three months ago, when a friend told me about TriVita and encouraged me to try their Super Sublingual B-12.

Before taking the supplement, I was working eight-hour days that were unusually exhausting. The tiredness I felt left me with no other choice than to take two-hour long afternoon naps. This was really

putting a wrench in the productivity of my day. After four days of taking TriVita’s Super Sublingual B-12, I no longer needed naps. I am back to my productive self again, and I am excited about the change in my life. I will always be a TriVita Member.”

Are you a Hoarder?

family Health

Recognizing this destructive disorder

We all have moments of messiness, and keep many items around the house

that we honestly don’t need. But people who hoard cross this line, compulsivelycollectingandkeeping…stuff. It gets stacked on just about any available surface, including counter-tops, floors and sinks. The items most commonly hoarded are clothes, news-papers and books, but anything is fair game, including garbage, rotten food – and even animals.

Conditions in the houses of hoarders can range from “pack rat” cluttered to downright hazardous.Inseverecases, roomswillonlybeaccessible by “goat paths” and people are no longer able to use areas of the house for their intended purposes (kitchen table is covered with mail, tubisfilledwithmagazines, bediscoveredwith clothing bags, etc.). Additionally, trash and spoiled food may attract rats and other vermin, not to mention bacteria.

What is hoarding?

Hoarding is a complex disorder that features these three connected problems:

1. Excessivecollectionofthings–3outof4peoplewhohoardshoptoomuch,and1in2report that they excessively collect free things. Some people just keep things, such as food wrappers and empty boxes.

2. Difficulty getting rid of items – many times, hoarders believe their possessions will increase in value over time, believe they will need them at a later date or attach emotional significance to them.

3. Inabilitytoorganize–resultsfromtestsandbrain imaging suggest that hoarders have a lower level of activity in the areas of the brain that govern decision-making, attention and memory.Attemptsatorganizationmaysimplyresult in items being moved from one place to another or piles that contain both worthless and valuable items.

Thoughtypicallycategorizedasasub-type of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), researchers suspect hoarding is in a category all of its own. Although hoarding can be a symptom of OCD in some cases, preliminary studies have shown hoarding involves different areas of the brain than OCD.

Hoarding behavior

Hoarding symptoms may appear in childhood or adolescence, growing more severe with age. Hoarding behavior typically becomes apparent aroundage13.Itmaybecomeamoderateproblem in the 20s and 30s and become severe in the 50s and 60s. Women tend to develop symptoms sooner although hoarding is more prevalent in men. Many hoarders don’trealizetheyhaveaproblemandmay grow defensive at the suggestion. As the situation worsens, hoarders may no longer invite people over, put off household repairs to avoid having anyone see their home, and become more socially isolated.

Although the causes of hoarding aren’t clearly understood, it is more likely to affect those with a family history. It may also be triggered by stressful life events or social isolation.

If you suspect yourself or someone you know to be a hoarder, contact a healthcare provider or mental health professional as soon as possible. Hoarding can adversely affect your health, your family life and even your community. Get help today.

Animal hoarders

Somepeopledon’tacquiremagazinesorgarbage: they acquire pets. Once called “animal collecting,” animal hoarding is the accumulation of a large number of animals which are then deprived of the proper standards of care. There are documented cases of people possessing hundreds of animals in their house – many of them so disease-riddentheyhavetobeeuthanized.

In many cases, animal hoarders believe they are properly caring for their animals despite being surrounded by ill and sometimes even deceased animals. Childhood abuse, neglect or an unstable family life are suspected as playing a role in animal-hoarding behavior. Unfortunately, without proper care and treatment,closeto100%ofanimalhoarders become repeat offenders.

Glorious, grand, gorgeous fall

The colorful mosaic that is autumn is almost upon the U.S. and Canada, where the

22nd day of this month marks the first day of fall, or the Autumnal Equinox. On that day, at the Earth’s equator,thereareexactly12hoursofdaylightand12hoursofdark-ness. And around that time, both people and nature start celebrating a favorite season. For people, of course, fall is a special time. So special, in fact, that it’s the only season commonly called by two names. “Fall” seems to be derived from the Middle Ages, when expres-sions like “fall of the leaf” were common. “Autumn” is a bit more mysterious. It ultimately traces back to the Latin word “autumnus,” which itselfhasahazyorigin.

Whatever you call this beautiful season, its cooler days and chillier nights bring with them the joys of harvest fairs and seasonal produce, pumpkin patches, mulled cider and turning leaves. Throughout much of North America, the scarlets and golds of autumn trees make a spectacular backdrop for “leaf-peeping” drives as summer fades to a memory and winter beckons.

While the outward signs of fall’s arrival are treasures for the spirit, the reasons for these changes are rooted in basic science. We have fall (and the other three seasons) because of the earth’s yearly trip around the sun. For part of the year, theEarth’sNorthPolepointsawayfromthe sun; part of the time it points toward it. This is what causes our seasons.

WhentheNorthPolepointstowardthesun, thesun’s rays hit the northern half of the world more directly. That means it’s warmer, and we in the northern realms have summer. But, when theNorthPoleispointedtowardthesun, theSouthPoleispointedaway.SotheEarthsouthof the equator gets less warmth from the sun. It is winter there when it is summer for us, and vice versa.

Where do the colors come from?

The splendor of fall colors is always in the trees around us. We just can’t see it for much of the year. Tree and plant leaves have pigments that give them their colors, and three are involved in the autumn “show”:

1. Chlorophyllgivesleavestheirgreencolor.

2. Carotenoids produce the yellow, orange and brown colors.

3. Anthocyanins give the red and purple colors.

During the growing season, most tree leaves are greenbecausethey’refullofchlorophyll.Plantsuse chlorophyll to capture sunlight for photosyn-thesis, the process that enables them to manufacture their own food. The amount of chlorophyll is so high during the summer that the green color hides all the other pigments in the leaf. As the days grow shorter in the fall, chlorophyll production slows down and eventu-ally stops. Then, the other pigments that have always been present become visible.

However you celebrate this colorful season, let its glories give you new reasons to enjoy the outdoors in vibrant health and wellness.

“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.” – Stanley Horowitz

If you’re frustrated by those extra pounds that you just can’t seem to get rid of, you’re not alone. Many people

eat a well-balanced, low-calorie diet and exercise regularly – to no avail. Review the hidden causes of weight gain below and tips on how to avoid them. “Healthy” restaurant food

Do you feel proud of yourself for skipping the burger and fries in favor of a salad? Before you pat yourself on the back, check out the massive amount of fatty dressing dripping off your lettuce leaves. Not to mention croutons and other add-ons. Either skip dressing altogether or ask for a low-fat variety on the side, and discard any extras that come with your meal.

Some medications may lead to weight gain, although the reasons for it aren’t always known. Sometimes it results from changes in metabo-lism and appetite. If you suspect your medication may be a culprit in weight gain, consult your healthcare provider. Do not stop taking medication without first consulting your healthcare provider.

a grandparent. Often many of these residents are starved for companionship, as their children or grandchildren are far away.

You’ll find another kind of connection in this month’s issue, as we explore the links between stress, inflammation and premature aging. Dr. Judy also reminds us of the power of acceptance as we reflect on theanniversaryof9-11,andChrista,ournutritionist,sharessmarteatingtipsforthoseover50.Anddon’tforgettotakeadvantageofthespecialpricingontheNopalea4-Packthismonth,especiallyafteryoureadhow it continues to change lives. We hope you are ready to make a positive difference on your wellness journey as you move into the fall months.

Supplementation can play a vital role in healthy aging. TriVita nutraceuticals are designed to nourish specific areas of the body by delivering the proper nutrients for optimal wellness. For men who desire healthy aging, lowering inflammation is critical. I highly recommend Nopalea, OmegaPrime and Prostate Health: three wonderful products which work together in helping to keep the prostate healthy and enhancing heart health. For women, Nopalea, OmegaPrime and Bone Growth Factor work extremely well together for good organ health and bone density. When supplementing, think targeted nutrition for long-term health, and be sure to get your annual medical check-ups.

Another critical component of healthy aging is exercise. Exercise is something young people do to acquire lean and rock-hard bodies. But healthy aging looks at exercise as a way to lengthen muscles, create flexibility and mobility, and strengthen bodies for overall endurance and energy. These are necessary changes in the way we must think when we age. If we do not change the way we think about exercise, we may give up on it when we don’t achieve the same physical results we got in our 30s and 40s. In healthy aging, how we look is secondary to how we feel, and the wellness we experience through daily exercise.

I end with this quote from John Barrymore: “A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.” A person with dreams has purpose for living, which is best supported by wellness. It is why we teach Affiliate Members at our events and in our communications that living to fulfill your life purposes is the greatest way to live your life. I believe our God-given life purposes will always be rooted in service to others. I encourage each of you to create a healthy living plan and to embrace the desire to fulfill your life purposes – which will lead you to healthy aging.

Pursue health and wellness with passion.

On September 11,2001,ourlives were

changed forever. I remember that morning clearly, turning on the tele-

vision to watch the news as I drank my first cup of morning coffee. The news was interrupted by a special report showing clouds of smoke billowing out of the World Trade Center.

I sat in disbelief as I watched the towers collapse into a pile of rubble on the ground. We witnessed right before our eyes an act of mass destruction using civilian planes, an act of aggression never seen before on U.S. soil. Fortunately, for many of us the closest we have come to a disaster is sitting glued to the TV screen watching the horrific aftermath of natural and man-made disasters. Yet in the past decade, so many people have had to face the horrors of terrorism, tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, fire and the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The emotional toll of these events can be devastating.

Considering the serious emotional impact

Disasters are unexpected, sudden and destabi-lizing.Whennaturalandman-madedisastersoccur, varying degrees of chaos and destruction can affect those involved. In some cases, there doesn’t appear to be any physical injury, but there is nonetheless a serious emotional impact.

Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, a U.S. government agency, short-term crisis counseling services are provided to help get people through the crisis period.

However, shock and denial are normal reactions of dealing with traumatic events and disasters, especially immediately after the event. Therefore, many people don’t seek the help they need immediately.

As the shock subsides, reactions will vary from one person to another. Some people turn to drugs and alcohol to cope, while others with-drawfromsociety,losetheirappetites,and/orfeel mentally numb or become angry. Individuals with prolonged reactions should consult with a trained and experienced mental health professional.

Coping with stress after a disaster

Knowing what emotional reactions to expect after a crisis and how to manage the stress places the healing process in the hands of survivors.

•Findagroupofpeoplewhohavegonethrough similar situations, and talk about your experience. Just being around other

people initially who know how you feel helps the healing process.

•Allowyourselftomournthelossesyou have experienced.

•Communicateyourexperienceinwhateverways are comfortable for you, such as talking to family and friends or writing in a journal.

•Engageinhealthybehaviorsassoonaspossible that enhance your ability to manage your stress. These include eating well-balanced meals, taking supplements, continuing or starting an exercise program and getting plenty of sleep.

However, the most important step a person can take in recovering from a disaster is coming to acceptthatithappened.InTriVita’s10Essentials for Health and Wellness it states, “Develop Acceptance – Free yourself from worry: accept what you can’t change and move on.” When you develop the ability to accept the circumstances in your life that you cannot change, you will be well on your way to lasting peace and hope.

Time for a spiritual check-up?

gene Henderson

If you get regular physical check-ups (and I hope you do), you know it’s fairly easy to measure the health of your body. Your healthcare provider will take note of things like blood pressure and weight, ask about sleep and exercise, and maybe send a sample to a lab. Similarly,

there are established procedures and tests for conducting mental check-ups. A professional can assess your psychological and emotional state, measured against standards set for age, gender, etc. But what about your spiritual health? How can you get a reading on this?

AsweatTriVitaemphasizeinthe10Essentialsfor Health and Wellness, health has physical, emotional and spiritual aspects. Each is equally important for enjoying robust health and living a life of purpose. So that raises an important question: how can we determine our spiritual health? We have lots of ways to check our physical and mental health, but only spirituality lacks some measurable way to see how we’re doing. Of course, you can’t “measure” spirituality by adding up how often you attend church, or how much money you give to charity. Still, there is a way to give yourself a spiritual “check-up” with a little help.

Ask the person who knows you so well

Who in your life knows you down to your core, flaws and all? Who knows how you behave when you’re tired or frustrated? Who can you trust to

tell you the truth about yourself? This person may be a partner or a close friend with whom you’ve shared much. This is the person who knows your spiritual checkpoints – the things that signal that you’re out of sync with God. PerhapsIcanexplainwithanexamplefrom my own life.

My friend Jack has been a major part of my life for 35 years. He knows my strengths and weak-nesses, my character, my beliefs and my patterns. With his help, I’ve come to know that there are three “symptoms” I display when I’m under the weather, spiritually:

1.Iavoidfellowship.IfI’mhavingtroublewithcircumstances around me, if I think God is testing me and I’m failing, my first reaction is

to withdraw from people. As my wife Sharon says, at these times I want to have my “pity party” and I let myself dwell on negative self-talk instead of God-talk.

2. I feel frustrated. Sometimes the problem is long work days, poor sleep or just being hungry. If I rule out those common physical and mental

issues, frustration is a sign that I need to get back on track spiritually.

3. I’m not living in today, in the Word. I know I can’t change yesterday, and God is in control of tomorrow. So, if I’m dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, if I’m not going to Him to set my day and settle my evening, I can’t really be spiritually present. When this happens, I go to my list of symptoms, and checkitems#1and#2.

What are your checkpoints?

My symptoms of being “out of sorts” spiritually may not apply to you, of course. And since it’s hard to self-diagnose in this area, I urge you to turn to that person you feel safe with, and let him or her be your sounding board for spiritual wellness. Let that person tell you what they see when you’ve veered off the God path, and then use that information to make your own list of spiritual checkpoints.

Learn what to do when the question is, “Am I okay with God?” And please remember that God is always “okay” with us; He wants us living, laughing and loving under His unwavering grace. AsScripturetellsusinPsalms91:4,“Hewillcover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

God’s love for us needs no check-ups. How’s your love for Him doing?

will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

Common remedies can hurt while they help

Do you pop pain remedies like they’re breath mints? Are you regularly using aspirin, ibuprofen,

acetaminophen or prescription medica-tions to get relief from aches and inflammation? If so, you could be taking serious chances with your health. These popular medications are called NSAIDS (“en-sades”, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and they’re available in both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) strengths. Many people find them helpful for occasional or short-term use, but taking too much, or for too long a time, can cause serious side effects: high blood pressure, kidney problems, bleeding and ulcers in the stomach and intestine, allergic reactions, liver failure and asthma attacks. Except for aspirin, NSAIDS can even boost the risk of a heart attack. They can also produce stomach pain, constipation, nausea and vomiting.

The quest to quiet inflammation

For some time, aspirin was practically the only non-prescription reliever available, but it was recognizedearlyonasapotentialstomachirritantif

used regularly. NSAIDS were later welcomed into the anti-pain medication arsenal because they also helped ease the actual cause of pain: inflammation. But as NSAIDS’ side effects became widely known, some physicians would play a kind of “pain-relief roulette,” switching patients from one NSAID to another as the side effects started showing up or the drug stopped working. That’s why the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other authorities strongly advise using NSAIDS exactly as prescribed, at the lowest dose possible, and for the shortest time needed.

Are you at risk of harm from NSAIDS? These are the key issues to consider:

• Age. Older people often need pain medications more often or in larger doses than younger people.

• Previous ulcer. Having had an ulcer or ulcer complication has been identified as a risk factor for having problems with NSAIDS.

• Alcohol. It can irritate the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Taken at the same time as aspirin or NSAIDS, alcohol can pose a bigger risk of damage, including ulcers and GI bleeding.

• Steroids.Peopletakingprescriptioncorticoste-roid medications such as prednisone may have seven times the risk of GI bleeding.

• Blood-thinners.PatientswhotakeNSAIDSatthe same time they take prescription blood-thin-nershavebeenfoundtohavea12-foldincreasedrisk of bleeding.

If you take NSAIDS…

The potential harm of NSAIDS is clear: as the FDA cautions, the longer you use NSAID medicines, the more you may increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke. And you should not take NSAIDS at all if you had an asthma attack, hives or other allergic reaction with aspirin or any other NSAID.

If you take NSAIDS regularly, talk with your healthcare professional about your potential for developing ulcers, GI bleeding or other side effects. While many of these problems can be readily treated, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t serious. GI bleeding and ulcers can happen without warning symptoms, and may cause death.

As with any medication, including OTC, you should take NSAIDS exactly as prescribed, or as directed on the label. If you have questions or concerns about pain-relievers, ask your healthcare professional.

Common remedies can hurt while they help

From financial freefall to a hope-filled life

Newspapers and TV are filled with heartbreaking stories about people whose lives have

been devastated by today’s economy. Unemployment is high, some have lost their life savings and others have put their planned retirements on indefinite hold. However, there are many people who refuse to be defeated…andarefightingbacktoimprove their financial condition.

One such couple is Tiffany and Russell T. from San Jose, CA. Like so many other Affiliate Members, they became “sold” on TriVita because of their quality products. Tiffany was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2003. “My doctors told me no more caffeine or chocolate because they could make my heart race,” Tiffany recalls. “I started taking HCY Guard®, which is great for my heart. I added Energy Now!® to replace my need for a caffeine boost in the morning.”

Both Tiffany and Russell have added several TriVita products to their nutritional regimen, including Adaptogen 10 Plus® to handle the stress of the current economy, and Peaceful Sleep™ to help them sleep soundly through the night. “I’ve been told many times that I’m one of the most energetic, positive and upbeat people, and I truly love life,” says Tiffany. “I give much of the credit for this to TriVita products.”

She’s especially thrilled with Nopalea™. In the past, Tiffany tried a variety of over-the-counter supplements for high cholesterol with limited success. Tiffany started taking Nopalea a year ago and recently had blood work done. She was pleasantly surprised when her total cholesterol countdroppedbyawhopping70points.“All my numbers improved,” she exclaims, “and my doctor said the results were very impressive. I give Nopalea complete credit because it’s the only thing I’m taking.”

Trouble on the horizon

Tiffany and Russell would be the first to admit that they didn’t do much to “work” their TriVita busi-ness while times were good. Then, Russell’s real estate business took an unexpected nosedive. “This caused us serious financial problems as we were heading into the time of our lives when we should be looking to retire,” Tiffany says. “We needed to change our thinking and our actions quickly, and we weren’t reallysurewhattodo…wewerescared.”

Their financial troubles coincided with the launch of Nopalea, and that motivated them to take another serious look at the company. Russell literally jumped into his car and drove to thePortland,OregonNopalealaunchmeeting,to gather more information. Then, he turned right around and drove back to California, determined to jump-start their TriVita business. “I was so excited about Nopalea,” Tiffany exclaims, “and we immediately knew this was the right path for us to take after our world came crashing down around us.”

Turning their lives around

Tiffany and Russell built their business the old-fashioned way, by sharing TriVita with everyone who would listen to them. Says Tiffany, “We’ve made calls to lots of people and turned many of them into steady Nopalea customers, whichhashelpedrevitalizeourbusiness. Some of these people took it to the next level by becoming Affiliate Members.”

While they are still recovering from their financial tailspin, Tiffany and Russell have great hopes for the future. “We have faith that as long as we maintain our belief in TriVita’s products and mission, we will get there,” she says. “We can only fail if we quit, and quitting is not an

option. I know that Russ and I can look forward to a healthful retirement through our hard work, commitment and the wonderful vision that TriVita has given us.”

They attended their first Galaxy of Stars (an annual meeting for Affiliate Members) last year, and are making plans to attend this year’s gala event. “We so look forward to our upcoming Galaxy of Stars,” Tiffany states. “We are thrilled to be part of the TriVita community of wellness seekers and Affiliate Members.”

Tiffany and Russell’s TriVita business is helping them plan for a secure future

What Does Your Brain Need For Healthy Aging?

Ever have a “senior moment”? It seems that forgetfulness increases with age. This is partially because

the damage to our brain accumulates over time. “Brain shrinkage” from stress and nutrient deficiencies, plus brain trauma from injuries and toxicity contribute to memory loss, inability to concentrate and even Alzheimer’s disease.

Some of the rapid aging of our brain and body is caused by nutrient deficiency. We simply cannot get the nutrients from our food as we have in times past.

Healthy brain, healthy body

We have to remember that every cell in our brain and body has a pre-programmed life span. This lifespan may be very short or very long. For instance, digestive cells in the small intestines live only a matter of hours and may be replaced up to six times daily. Some cells in our brain, nervous system and immune system may last our

entire lifetime but become dormant and stop functioning if not properly nourished.

When the signal goes out that cell repair or replacement is needed, growth hormone accom-plishes this with the nutrients we have available at that time. So, just imagine: A cell reaches the end of its normal lifespan and needs to be replaced. Growth hormone is present to facili-tate this restoration. Now, your body recruits the nutrient building blocks that it needs to build healthy cells:

Proteins,fats,carbohydrates,water,vitamins,minerals,enzymes,antioxidantsandmanyother nutrients

What if you don’t have enough nutrients avail-able to facilitate this replacement? What if you are missing a vitamin or an antioxidant or fat or some other critical nutrient when it is needed most? Well, one of two things will happen:

1. Eitherthecellwillnotbereplacedandwebegin to wither; or

2. The cell is replaced, but without critical elements needed to keep it healthy.

For healthy aging you simply must have the proper nutrients available at all times because a cell deprived of the proper nutrients will be prone to disease and premature aging. Your body must replace millions of cells each day. One single day of poor nutrition will mean that you will make deficient cells that day. These cells may live for many months or years and they will be the focus for disease and inflammation.

Healthy living, healthy aging

How can we have a healthy brain and body? Only from healthy living – based on healthy choices. If we make unhealthy lifestyle choices, our aging process can rush us into disability like a flooding river. If we make wise choices our aging process will move along almost impercep-tibly – like a creeping glacier. This is true healthy aging!

Cognitive (mental) functioning is more likely to predict sound decision-making than age, Duke University researchersreportedintheJune2010editionofPsychology and Aging.

Keeping a healthy prostate

Men: Simple lifestyle choices protect your quality of life

Theprostateisawalnut-sizedgland in men which has plenty of name recognition.

Yet few people actually know much about its purpose and overall importance to good health.

What is the prostate?

The prostate is part of a man’s reproductive system and is found in front of the rectum and just below the bladder. The prostate wraps around a tube (the urethra) that carries urine from the bladder out through the body. The prostate gland grows quite a bit during puberty and then doesn’t change much until about 40, when it slowly begins growing again. In many men, this growth doesn’t stop and that can lead to three different prostate conditions or diseases:

Enlarged prostate – also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia

This growth is not due to cancer but can put extra pressure on the urethra, which may cause difficulty urinating or discomfort in the lower abdomen. As men age, they have a greater risk of developing this condition. Treatments are available for more serious cases.

Prostatitis

Prostatitisisaninfectionoftheprostategland, and can cause pain in the groin, painful or difficult urination and related symptoms.

Prostate cancer

This is the second most common cancer in men worldwide.Prostatecancerisadiseaseinwhichcancer cells grow in the prostate gland. Risk factors for prostate cancer include:

•Age55orolder

•Race:African-American

• Familyhistoryofprostatecancer,especiallyfather or brother

• Familyhistoryofprostatecancerdiagnosed at a young age

•Ahigh-fatdiet

The sooner prostate cancer is treated, the better the outcome. New promising treatments for prostate cancer are constantly being developed.

How to reduce your risk of prostate cancerget screened regularly

Prostatecancerrarelyproducessymptomsinitsearly stages, so the best way to detect it is through routine visits to your doctor for a digital rectalexamandProstate-SpecificAntigen(PSA)test.Yourchanceofgettingprostatecancer increases with age, so regular screening is vitally important for men over 40.

In fact, a recent European study of 20,000 Swedishcitizensindicatedthatregularscreeningfor prostate cancer reduced mortality from the disease by about half.

Watch your diet

Studies have found an association between high-fat diets and an increased risk of prostate cancer. Eating foods rich in lycopene seems to lower a man’s risk of prostate cancer. This is an ingredient that is found in certain fruits and vegetables, including grapefruits and tomatoes. Eatmoderate-sizedportions,don’teatlots of saturated fats and keep your calories under control.

Regular exercise

Exercising regularly may reduce your risk of prostate cancer. Choose exercises you enjoy and make them a regular part of the day. Try to maintain an exercise program that keeps you fit and maintains your healthy weight. Check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.

Avoid excessive drinking

Drink alcohol in moderation – that usually means no more than two drinks a day for men. Several studies have indicated that regular heavy drinking increases the risk of aggressive prostate cancer.

Drink green tea

Green tea contains a variety of antioxidants that may help prevent prostate cancer.

get enough Vitamin D

The best source of Vitamin D is the sun (always in moderation). There are several good food sources for Vitamin D, including fish, liver oil, cheese and egg yolks. Call 1-800-991-7116 and find out which TriVita products may help with your health concerns.
