Company history

1945 Bekaert, a steel wire drawing company, acquires the technology for looped screen manufacturing. Heavy screens for the coal mines are sold through local agents. 1975 Trislot trade mark is introduced. Welded products and very fine looped screens are sold to the food industry and to filter manufacturers in general. Turnover is around 1,000,000 USD. 1983 Turnover has grown to 3,000,000 USD and Bekaert decides to use the Trislot operation as a platform for diversification. 1985 The Trislot plant in Brussels is closed and manufacturing is relocated in a modern building in Waregem. The heavy looped screen manufacturing is stopped. 1987 Bekaert decides to change its diversification strategy. The Trislot operation is no longer considered as a platform for growth. June 1987 Through a management buy out Trislot Systems nv acquires the Trislot production line from Bekaert 1987 - 1994 Trislot Systems invests 2,000,000 USD in new manufacturing equipment for welded products. The manufacturing plant is expanded and reorganized. A new quality assurance system is operational based on ISO 9000. Turnover has reached more than 8,000,000 USD in 1994. Trislot has become an important player on the reactor internals market (Shell, UOP, IFP). 1995 The company is acquired by CAE, Inc. a Canadian group having complementary product lines (screen plates). 2001 The company changed ownership. We are no longer part of the Canadian based CAE group, but are now owned by a private Belgian investor.

Product description

Trislot manufactures reactor internals using V-wire screens (wedge wire screens, Johnson screens, profile wire screen,… ). Such a screen consists of surface wires that are resistance welded onto support profiles. The distance between the surface profiles is controlled very accurately, as it forms the slot through which the liquid or gas flows and by which the media (catalyst, resin, … ) is retained in its position.

Compared to e.g. wire mesh internals the V-wire internals have the following advantages:

Non-clogging: the continuous slot formed by the V-shaped surface

wires ensures a two-point contact between the particles and the slot, which minimizes clogging.

High-precision slot sizes: precise slot sizes are available to meet

customer’s requirements. Slot openings starting from 25 µ.

Low pressure drop, High open area.

Strong self-supporting construction: for many applications the V-wire screen is self-supporting, because of the welding at each intersection.

Low friction between medium and screen: thanks to the slots in one direction the media can move in that direction with a low friction force.

All these advantages result in a low maintenance cost and a minimal operational cost for the refinery. Trislot has many different profiles available in most stainless steel alloys, Duplex and Superduplex alloy, Inconel 600, Titanium, Hastelloy C276,… For available profiles and materials please check our general catalogue or our website www.trislot.be

Reactor internals

Reactor internals

The V-wire reactor internals are mainly used in two types of reactors: Down-flow or up-flow reactor: the flow of the liquid through the catalyst is from top to

bottom, or from bottom to top

Radial flow reactor: the flow of the liquid through the catalyst is from outside to the center of the reactor or vice versa.

Down or up-flow reactor Radial flow reactor

Typical processes where V-wire internals are used:

Catalytic reforming Hydrodesulfurization Hydrocracking,

Hydrotreating Molecular sieves,

Alkylation Styrene, Ammonia,

Sulphur recovery Ethylene, Merox

Some references: Trislot has been working with: Process licensors: Shell Global Solutions, UOP, IFP Axens, Haldor Topsoe, ABB Lummus, Uhde, Linde, Snamprogretti, Air products, BOC, Chevron, Fina, Esso,… Contractors/engineering: Fluor Daniel, SNC Lavalin, Pidec, Stone & Webster, Technip, Raytheon, Stork, Badger, Snamprogetti, Chiyoda, Shell, Jacobs, Samsung,…

Different types of reactor internals used in this type of reactor: Scale trap Baskets or Distributor Baskets(IFP-Axens), Top Bed Filters (Shell), Inlet Distributor or Feed Diffuser, Catalyst Support Grid (self-supporting or with beams), Hold down grid, Bottom Basket,…

Different types of reactor internals used in this type of reactor: Center Pipe or Center Screen (Haldor Topsoe, UOP, Shell.. ), Scallops (Haldor Topsoe, Shell.. ), Outer Screen (UOP),…
