Virtue of the Week
Integrity Acting and speaking with honesty and sincerity. It means doing the right thing, even if it is hard, in order to live according to God’s Commandments and the teachings of Jesus.
Let your “yes” mean “yes,” and your “no” mean
“no”. - Matthew 5:37
Spirit of Truth, give me the strength and courage to act
and speak with integrity. May I try each day to be honest,
truthful and dependable. Amen.
Awe and Wonder A good friend, who is Muslim, once asked me about why it is important for Catholics to go to Mass so often. I told him of our desire to know God more fully and to encounter him in scripture and in the real presence of the Eucharist. His response astounded me. He said, if I knew God was going to really be present every time I went to church, I would be there every time on my knees in awe. Wow! Is this how we come to church? God is really here in the scripture and in the Eucharist. Do we think about that? Do we have a spirit of awe and wonder for God’s presence at Mass? Let us always remember to recognize and be moved by God’s real presence at Mass. Then we can say, like the early disciples, ARE NOT OUR HEARTS BURING WITHIN US BECAUSE OF HIS PRESENCE HERE AMONG US.

On the weekend of December 2 & 3, the parish will hold its first Annual Franciscan Nativity Festival. Basically, each family is asked to bring a nativity set to the church that weekend for display and blessing along with a brief note about the set (i.e. what it is made of, where it came from, history, etc.) There will be more details closer to the date. This is a wonderful way for parishioners to share Christmas traditions and beautiful nativity sets!

Bullying: What Parents, Teachers Can Do to Stop It Questions for bullying expert Susan Swearer, PhD Excerpt below - full text and resources at: http://www.apa.org/pi/families/resources/abuse.aspx Q: How is the growth of social media, such as Facebook affecting bullying? A: Technology has definitely impacted bullying. What used to be a face-to-face encounter that occurred in specific locations is now able to occur 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Technology—computers, cell phones and social networking sites -- are all conditions that allow bullying to occur. One way to protect our children is to limit and/or monitor their use of this technology. I ask parents, “Would you let your 12-year-old daughter walk alone down a dark alley?” Obviously, the answer is “no.” The follow-up question is, “Then why would you let your 12-year-old daughter be on the computer or be texting unmonitored?”
