Kochi Universityof Technology(KUT)rvasestablishedinApril l99l as aprivateuniversity,butin2009 it became a public university corporation funded by Kochi prefecture. The university offersgraduate programs in Engineering. Economics. and Management.
Working towards our lofty ideal, "Making KUT a lvorld class university through the pursuit of uniqueexcellence," we pride ourselves on developing advanced innovations that emphasize freedom from theconstraints of conventional practicc.
Our Special Scholarship Program (SSP). rvhich started in 2003, emerged from this concept. The SSPpromotes research excellence by inviting highly qualified PhD students from around the world. SSP
students are exempted from school f'ees and are paid living expenses so that they can maximize theirengagement in their doctoral de-uree research. Under the direction of KUT faculty members, so farover 100 students have obtained doctoral degrees and are now making dynamic contributions invarious academic fields. Since 2001, a series of biennial, alumni-centered. international conferenceshas been held. Most recently, an international conference was held in Shenyang, China in 2013, in a
convivial atmosphere attracting some 100 participants.
In addition to the SSP program, KUT has been working in various ways to promote internationalexchange. In 2013, our International House was constructed on the Kami campus, establishing a
convenient and comfortable environment for SSP students. This facility is also expected to greatlyenhance the awareness of KUT students of the excitement and value of international exchange.
Fully committed to the recent r,vorldrvide trend of globalization of universities, we at KUT willcontinue to do our utmost to support the SSP system, and to maximize the achievements of our SSP
students. We eagerly await applications from diligent and talented students.
