Fu Zhou immigrants. The rest of the villagers comprise of Malays, Indians and

other races. According to the census bureau, the current population in

KampungCina is approximately 3,216. Most of the villagers there are Buddhist

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

10% of the residentsthere involve in the fishing industry whereas 80%

involve in the agriculture (mainly rubber, palm oil) sector. Besides these two main

economic activities, some residents involve in the manufacturing, construction,

retail, hotel and restaurant sectors. Apart from that, some enterprising residents

have set up their handmade noodle (Fu Qing MeeSuah) business. Besides that,

people in the village are famous for seafood cooking. Thus, there are many seafood

restaurants in the village. Since the village is located near the seaside, the price for

seafood is very cheap when compared to other places.

Seafood Restaurants

There is no supermarket, mini market, banks and hair salon and therefore

residents need to travel to Manjung town center for such services.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

The local authority planned to use a 3 hectare rubber plantation to build an

old folks home equipped with a recreational facilities, hostels, a grand hall and a

community sports center. The reason for the conception of an old folks’ home is

to create a social centre for the senior citizens. The nearby UkIng primary school

could also be used to conduct their co-curricular activities.

PROBLEMS

There are several socio-economic problems faced by the residents in

KampungCina. Firstly, there is not enough land for farming. This is due to

increased housing development in the surrounding areas. Due to this, there is a

shortage of empty land for recreational activities.

Secondly, the condition of the roads is not good. There are lots of potholes

along the roads and there are no street-lighting. Therefore, the safety of the road

users is in danger.

Thirdly, the public transportation system should be improved. There is no

bus service in Kampung. Cina and eventually causing inconvenience to the

villagers. They have to walk to the Sitiawan for bus service.

Fourthly, there is no clinicor hospital at all in Kampung. Cina. The

villagers face problemsduring emergencies. For example, if a person faints, it

takes 20 minutes for the ambulance to reach the house, and this delay may cause

danger to one’s life.

Lastly, there are sea pollutions around the area. The local authority should

take more effort to maintain or improve it although the pollution level is below

average.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Promoting the village

KampungCina is just a small village by the sea and many Malaysians do

not know the existences and attractions. However, we foundKampungCina has

many potential for tourism like its beautiful beaches, greenery sites and mangrove

swamps which can be turned into eco-tourism locations. Thus, we recommend the

local or national tourism board to promote KampungCina at the national and

international levels. Once the village is turned into tourism hotspot, the local

economy will improve significantly.

Lack of substantial public facilities

There is no police station in the village to ensure law and order. We

recommend the local authorities to set up a police station. Next, there is no fire

station or health clinic in the village and thus we recommend the local authorities

to solve this problem.
