All too soon the curtains are drawing to a close and we will soon be returning

to our homes. Graduation brings with it the bittersweet feeling of immense joy on one

hand, but also the realization that we may not be seeing our friends anymore. China has

been a home away from home, but like the Chinese themselves say, , ,

we must ultimately return to where our hearts truly are.

But what of the deep personal relationships we have formed and nurtured, and

the countless and wonderful people we have come to know and adore? The people we

now affectionately call FRIENDS. The idea for this yearbook was borne out of the need to

remain in contact with each other while remembering the years we spent together.

Coming to China, we each brought with us a unique, cultural identity. What we

have created is a diversity that has opened us up to the world, shaped our experiences

and enlightened our perception of life. We are different yet we shared in a common goal

to excel in our studies, and to take a step closer to achieving our goals and dreams. We

have gained a lot more than that; valuable friendships that span all the continents in the

world. As ambassadors of our countries, we have shared with others, our individual and

unique cultures. From this, we have matured in our ability to tolerate and respect each

other regardless of race, ethnicity or religion. I believe the world seems a lot smaller to

all of us now, and indeed our experiences here has brought more meaning to the phrase

“a global village”.

简介

Our lives here have been a culmination of myriad experiences. Who can forget

the fond memories? The trips, the parties, the countless events. How about the not so

fond ones? Do you remember getting lost in our own school, unable to find our dormi-

tory in the first week or trying to figure out which gate is North or South? I am sure we

have all gotten lost in some sprawling Chinese city; or taken the wrong bus. There are

those experiences that we will gladly relive, and those we wish we never had. I can

imagine some of us wished we had travelled more, or perhaps relaxed and taken life a

little slower. We may wish we had said no to that last beer, or gathered up the courage to

ask that person out on a date. How about wishing we had taken Chinese more seriously

or visited the gym more regularly? In hindsight everything seems trivial now. What is

important are the many lessons that we have learnt. Whatever our regrets, we can still

bask in the glory of the fact that we have matured as individuals.

One stage of our journey in life has come to an end. As we stand at the cross-

roads, let us look back and be thankful for the opportunity. The friendships we have

cultivated and the lessons we have learnt, both inside and outside the classroom will be

valuable to us someday. Let us keep in touch with each other, as we spread out to all the

corners of the globe.

It doesn’t matter if we have a plan or not, or are worried about finding a job, or

whatever else might happen or not happen from here on. What we know for sure, and

must remember always is the conviction that life eventually works itself out, so rest as-

sured that all will be well.

Congratulations on achieving this milestone and it is my hope that we’ll meet

again soon. After all, it’s just a small world.
