GENERAL GUIDE

UCSI Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communication comprises of

three pathways – Film & Television, Journalism and Marketing and

Communication.

The Mass Communication programme takes three years (nine

semesters) to complete. Each year requires students to go through two

14 weeks semesters (long semesters) and one seven weeks semester

(short semester).

In order to proceed to the advanced year, students need to complete

80% of the previous years’ subjects. For instance, a completion of 80%

Year 1 subjects is required prior to taking Year 2 subjects.

Pre requisites must be strictly observed.

MPW subjects and English requirements must be completed in Year 1.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

A professional course in mass communication opens doors for a career in films & TV, publishing, public relations, journalism, editing, directing, filmmaking, scriptwriting, production, etc. In nutshell, Mass Communication widens up the horizon of career options for a person. Depending upon personal interest and inclination a mass communication professional can choose a job.

Attractive and high paying jobs as journalist, actor, director, editor, screenwriter, RJ, producer, VJ are available to the talented and trained individuals.

Most of the subjects offered are hands on and project based not exam based especially pathway subjects.

Three Cooperative Placements – Hands on and practical work

Placements in PETRONAS, Leo Burnett, Red Communications, ASTRO, Media Prima, Malaysianinsider, New Straits Times, The Sun, The Star, SPAD, Tayangan Unggul and other smaller production houses and advertising Agencies.

Unique selling point 2: Collaborate with BERNAMA Radio 24

Mass communications students run 1 hour show in Bernama Radio 24 – hence give students hands on experience in the radio industry and also how to approach issues and subjects from different angles.

media practitioners

Mass communication department has a business unit which offers services for UCSI internal and external stakeholders in event management, emceeing, video coverage, corporate video, editing services and poster copywriting.

Teach students entrepreneurship skills which not many universities offer this kind of opportunities.
