USING OUR TIME WISELY
A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh pro-duce, then; because most fruits and veg-etables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find reci-pes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same ur-gency about honey.
In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and always, we can man-age our daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to treasure not earthly wealth, but God alone. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
USANDO NUESTRO TIEMPO SABIAMENTE
Un frasco con miel prácticamente dura por siempre. El frasco de miel más antiguo descubierto tenía casi más de cinco mil años de antigüe-dad. La miel es muy diferente de cualquier otro alimento producido; entonces porque muchas frutas y vegetales solo duran unos pocos
días si las cuidamos. En este tiempo del verano, nos apresuramos a encon-trar recetas para cerezas y pepinos para no desperdi-ciar ni uno solo. Pero no tendríamos la misma prisa para la miel. En nuestra propia mane-ra, somos como una de esas frutas y vegetales frágiles y maduros. Las lecturas de hoy nos sugie-ren a no echarnos a per-der, sino a hacer un buen uso de nuestros limitado tiempo en la tierra. El libro del Eclesiastés nos recuer-
da que ya que Dios provee para nosotros ahora y siempre, podemos administrar nuestros asuntos diarios sin ninguna ansiedad. Catholic Tuition Support Organization
As we get ready for the school year to begin, it is a good time to think about the CTSO (www.ctso-tucson.org). Many of our students’ families are thankful for the financial assistance available to them through CTSO making it possible for them to afford a Catholic education. If you haven’t used this excellent avenue for keeping Catholic Schools as an option for educa-tion of our children, one way you can do so is by signing up for a regular contribution either by a recurring charge to a credit card or by electronic funds transfer (EFT). You will receive a receipt from CTSO in January for the 2019 tax year and you may call the CTSO office anytime to request one to be sent to you.
Taxpayers also qualify for a dollar-for-dollar Arizona state tax credit (up to $2,269 for a couple filing jointly or $1,135 for a person filing single) for contributions up until 15 April 2020 which will be paid to them after the 2019 Arizona tax return is filed. In addition to funds directed to us by parishioners and friends via CTSO, various corporations may also direct tax credit monies to the CTSO. Our school receives monies from these credits as well. Why not check with your company to see if they would be willing to match your donation and di-rect some of their taxes to our school? All of what we receive goes toward financial aid for fami-lies wishing to send their children to our school, but who would not be able to do so without this help. Thank you to those parishioners and corporations who have directed their tax credits to our school!

Second Sunday Sharing
Next Weekend
For every second Sunday of the month, we include in our mailed packet of envelopes a gold envelop for the various Social Outreach ministries to which we contribute. We refer to this monthly collection as Second Sunday Sharing. From time to time it is good to review what programs and/or ministries we support with the monies donated especially to familiarize new parishioners with this long-time parish practice. Listed on the envelope are several ministries we regularly support. Included with this listing are the totals we have con-tributed to these ministries for FY2019.
Border Ministry – We contribute to several agencies (in next week’s bulletin, we’ll include a brief statement about each):
Kino Border Initiative – $434 Casa Alitas – $464
No More Deaths – $200 PCIC (Pima County Interfaith Council) – $1,500 (We also sup-
port this ministry with an annual special collection taken up in August. Last year, this collection was $1,010. It will be taken up this year on the weekend of 24–25 August.) Infor-mation about this organization will be included in our bulletin the prior weekend.
Share-A-Lunch – This is our own sandwich making for Casa Maria on the 3rd Sunday of each month: $3,603 (We also support this ministry with an annual special collection taken up in July. In 2018, $1,219 was donated. This past month, $1,345 was donated.)
St. Vincent de Paul Society – $18,146 (Parishioners support this parish ministry with food donations as well as annual special collections on Thanksgiving Day – $1,647, and Ash Wednesday – $2,335.)

Religious Education
Registration for the 2019–20 catechetical year will be the this weekend (3 and 4 August).
Catechesis for First Reconciliation and First Commun-ion are offered to children of eight years of age and older. Children should be encouraged to approach the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation freely and regularly. Reconciliation pre-cedes the preparation for and celebration of First Communion. Children must attend weekly classes and may not exceed three absences. In excess of three absences may prevent them from receiving the Sacrament that year.

Inscripción para el año de catecismo 2019–20 será este fin de semana (3 y 4 de agosto).
La catequesis para la Primera Reconciliación y la Primera Co-munión se ofrece a todos los de niños de 8 años en adelante. Se
debe motivar a los niños a acercarse de forma voluntaria y cotidiana a este Sacramento de Reconciliación. La Reconciliación precede a la pre-paración para la celebración de la Primera Comunión. Los niños deberán asistir a todas las clases y no podrán tener más de tres faltas. El excederse de este número de faltas equivaldría a tener que esperar hasta el siguiente año para recibir este Sacramento.

Confirmation Preparation
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two consecutive year process. Registration opens this weekend.
Confirmation I: Begins the process for high school stu-dents who want to be confirmed in 2020.
Confirmation II: For high school students who were a part of the Youth Ministry–Catechetical Confirmation I program last year. Confirmation will be celebrated in November. All Students need to register with our Religious Education Office in order to enter into sacramental preparation classes.
