Management System Description

CFM is safe and economical digital microwave radio link systemproviding wireless point-to-point channels for digitized voice and datacommunications in both metropolitan and rural areas between sites upto 35 km apart. Typical applications include PABX trunk connectivity,private combined data & voice networks, cellular networks and mediumspeed access to backbone networks for providers of data services.CFM is available with 4, 8, 16 or 34 Mbps Full Duplex traffic capacity.In hands of professional user and installer CFM Microwave Radioprovides extremely high data channel quality, which is as high as goodquality cooper or fiber cable channels and features ultra low error ratesand very high channel stability.

Management System offered for CFM Mircowave Radio providesrich functionality enabling easy integration of equipment into the moderntelecommunication networks and provides control and maintenance ofthe equipment within the network. It is easy in use and effective in action.

CFM Management System ensures user with the wide range of dynamic managementpossibilities, conforms to the general principles of the digital network management, involvingboth, local and remote tools to control and maintain equipment within the network.

Using Management System

LCD display and the keypad located on the front panel of the IDU are providing ideal toolsfor quick local configuration of the CFM system. The monitoring of all the essentialradio/system parameters could be done from LCD display in order to evaluate the operationof the system, whenever no other management tools are available. Capability of switchingon/off loopbacks from the LCD/keypad interface provides a great tool for troubleshootingany system in case such need arrises.

A terminal device connected to RS-232 serial port of the IDU (PC/Laptop/palmtop or anyother) will allow full configuration and control of the system. The user will have access tocomplete set of functions enabling configuring the radio parameters, loopbacks, interfaceparameters and more. All the equipment status information is available through terminalinterface for the benefit of expierienced user.

Ethernet interface provides the richest functionality and the widest choice of managementtools available. The user has access to full management functionality using Telnet interface,it duplicates interface and the commands of terminal interface.In case SNMP interface is used over TCP/IP as a transport mechanism, CFM seriesequipment is to be integrated with any SNMP management system operating within thenetwork.

The CFM products provide several management interfaces for accessingmanagement system:• LCD and keypad as tools for local management;• Ethernet port for Web and Telnet management consoles and SNMP/Traps;• RS232 serial port for ASCII management consoles, the ASCII console

can be connected directly to the Indoor unit, or remotely via telephoneline, using modems;

• Service channel multiplexed into data stream to access far side terminals.

The CFM management controller provides several services:• Telnet client; Enables remote monitoring and configuration of the equipment from a

management console connected to the Indoor Unit via Ethernet port, using CommandLine Interface;

• Command Line Interpreter;• Web server; Enables remote monitoring and configuration of the equipment from a

management console connected to the Indoor Unit via Ethernet port, using Web pageinterface;

• SNMP agent; Provides the integration of the equipment into SNMP network, supportingMIB-II RFC1213 standard MI Band, supported by SAF Tehnika private MIBs;

• TCP/IP stack; Transport mechanism for the management information;• RIP II routing; Dynamically gathers routing information for the to establish management

channel.

The CFM equipment can also be managed using a handheld computer, offering evenmore mobility to the engineers. The Palmtop is connected to the Indoor Unit via RS232console port, and running any terminal emulation software, the engineer is granted the samefunctionality as if was connected with a desktop PC.

Loop tests

Feature rich loopback functionality is available for all models of CFM equipment. Theradio, baseband and interface (E1 and V.35) loopbacks are provided for testing the channelsfor client convenience.

Full monitoring of the equipment is available for easy gathering and storingperformance/statistics information.The equipment will send alarms over SNMP traps in case trap manager is set up in thenetwork.The built in Web server is available for the convienience of the users in every Indoor Unit,providing easy and familiar HTTP page interface enabling monitoring and configurationfunctionality for the Radio and Indoor Unit including interfaces, loopbacks, etc.

The management of local to the user radio terminal is available from all the managementinterfaces and management tools of CFM management system, for the managing ofremote terminal all the tools accessible over Ethernet port could be employed.

Management System and interfaces

The heart of CFM management system hardware is an intelligent mamagement controllerlocated inside every Indoor Unit. The management system is built around TCP/IP protocoland Internet technologies making it very easy and convienient for every contemporarycomputer user.

TCP/IP protocol is used as a main transport mechanism for the management information.Each management controller acts as TCP/IP router for management information, this wayallowing to create a routed TCP/IP network from CFM and other equipment. Systemsupports static routes and RIP II protocol for Ethernet port of MM controller and servicechannel over the radio to far end terminal.
