Technology Vision Statement

Roanoke County Public Schools will create and implement a shared vision of learning with all stakeholders with the use and integration of the most effective and appropriate educational technology to promote the success of all students. Technology will be used to encourage exploration, research, safety and higher level thinking, developing life-long learners from preschool and beyond. Effective implementation of technology will help all stakeholders—students, parents, teachers, administration, and community – meet the community’s needs.

AdministratorsPromote the use of the most effective and appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning. (ISLLC 2)

Obtain, allocate, align, and efficiently utilize technological resources (ISLLC 3)

Build and sustain productive relationships with stakeholders in efforts for collaboration to mobilize community resources (ISLLC 4)

Offer virtual learning opportunities for teachers; support staff. (ISLLC 2)

Provide ongoing training for administrators and curriculum supervisors in the effective use of technology and collaborative learning tools. (ISLLC 1)

Faculty and Staff • Technology used in their classrooms on a regular basis, includes, but is

not limited to: Smartboards, Blackboard, Starbase, MS Office• Teachers will use opportunities to share strategies with one another

that are being used in the classroom during inservices. Facilitate the development and delivery of professional development opportunities that incorporate peer coaching, mentoring, online training, and reflective practices.

• Teachers will attend professional development in areas of technology integration, Internet Safety, and 21st Century Literacies.

• Increase the use of more current technologies, such as blogs, wikis, podcasts and videocasts, GPS units, or iPod Touches on a regular basis.

• Provide high-quality professional development to help educators create, maintain, and work in a variety of learner-centered environments.

• Provide ongoing professional development in the effective use of technology to support real, blended, and virtual learning environments. ISLLC 2

Students and Parents• Provide tools that extend learning capabilities, can be customized to

meet individual needs and preferences, and support instruction. • Ensure internet safety of our students by holding town meetings to

share valuable information with parents and community members about the latest dangers of internet use.

• Students will also receive class lessons on internet safety. Information given will be based on the students grade level and/or potential concern with in their age group.

• Provide students with the opportunity to use electronic tools in the above statement that will help inside and outside the classroom. Examples of these devices would be laptops, IPads, and IPods.

Community – such as business leaders, higher education, law enforcement representatives and public library officials.

workshops on current Internet safety issues.

workshop descriptions
