The School of Business at Florida Memorial University (FMU) is a successful and popular school within the
University that is committed to enlightening eager minds into committed professionals who are prepared for high-
achieving business careers. Our objective is to provide students the opportunity to obtain the Bachelor of Science
in Business Administration fields and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree. The dedicated faculty
and staff at the School are determined to prepare students to function effectively in a highly competitive,
technological, and global society. The goal is to instill in students the importance of life-long learning and a
commitment to leadership through service in the enhancement of their lives and the lives of others. These
principles lay the foundation for our graduates’ success in and beyond the classroom.
The School of Business graduates have taken various directions in their professional careers. Graduates have
become leaders and employees of local and international companies, small business owners and entrepreneurs,
with a common concrete fact that their success started here at FMU’s School of Business. The review of the
School of Business Linkedin Alumni page attest this claim. The School is proud of its tradition of personal
attention and academic advising, dedicated faculty with scholarly research and presentations, innovative and
rigorous curriculum, and ongoing peer networking opportunities for its students and alumni.
As is reported in these Highlights, the School’s Advisory Council provides outstanding assistance in mentoring
and professional development of students through its Executive Roundtables seminars and Planning Retreat. The
Council members, by the request of faculty, attend classes as guest lecturers and discuss and share relevant real
world business experiences and issues with students. By the recommendation of the Council, the School of
Business had its Inaugural Dean’s Forum in March 2017. Mr. Melvin Kirk, Senior Vice-President & Chief
Information Officer of Ryder System, Inc. provided insight in the area of logistics and its relationship with
information technology.
The involvement of faculty, staff and students in Internship Roundtables, Mock Interviewing, involvement of
School’s Clubs in several community and professional development events. Ms. Dominique Nicholson (a Finance
Major) represented the University in the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and University
(HBCU) in October 2016 and introduced PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA when FMU hosted the president on
campus on October 20, 2016. The exemplary success of our faculty, students, and alumni documented in these
Highlights follows the general objective of the School of Business, which is to provide its students and
stakeholders with the best academic, as well, as professional guidance and supervision. I am hopeful that our
2016-2017 Highlights serves as a source of inspiration for the School’s continual growth and development. I
welcome readers’ comments, communication, and engagement with the School of Business. My sincere
appreciation goes to individuals who have made this Report a token of the School of Business’ commitment to
Leadership, Character, and Services to academic and professional community.
