ON TAP: San Francisco returns to the Bay Area Thursday as it wraps-up an eight game road trip with a 7 p.m. tilt against Pacific in Stockton.

LAST TIME ON ThE FLOOR: Last weekend, USF took a trip to Paradise, playing three games in Hawai’i. In the opener, USF fell to Hawai’i 58-48 in Manoa Valley. The Dons participated in the 2009 Hukilau Invitational, co-hosted by BYU and BYU-Hawai’i in Laie. San Francisco rallied late, but were unable to overcome BYU in the opener, falling 72-60. Saturday, in the finale, the Dons dropped a 69-61 decision to BYU-Hawai’i.

NEXT ON ThE SchEduLE: San Francisco will return to the Hilltop Sunday for the first time in eight games and since November 22. USF will host Cal Poly at War Memorial Gym, for one of two home contests in the month of December. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.

VOTE FOR VAL: This season the West Coast Conference is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Women’s Athletics, powered by Zappos.com, with a 25th Anniversary Team. The first 24 members were voted upon by members of the conference, while the 25th member is being left up to the gen-eral public. USF’s delegate is former Don standout Valerie Gillon. Gillon, a member of the USF Hall of Fame, was a two-time WCC Tournament MVP (1995, 1996), the 1996 WCC Scholar Athlete of the Year and ranks in the USF Career ranks in six categories. Please join the USF Women’s Basketball Program by voting for Valerie by visiting www.wccsports.com.

ANTON EARNS cAREER hIGh: Heidi Anton came off the bench against BYU to post a career high 11 points Friday. In nine minutes of action, Anton hit 4-of-5 from the field with three free throws, in-cluding scoring five straight for the Dons. She also added an assist and a steal. Prior to her 11 points, Anton’s previous high was five points.

ALE EARNS ALL-TOuRNAMENT hONORS: Sophomore Rheina Ale was named to the All-Tour-nament Team at the 2009 Basketball Traveler’s Tip-off Tournament in Lubbock Texas. During the three game event, the sophomore scored 40 points in the event, averaging 13.3 per game with eight rebounds and five assists. The all-tournament selection was the first of the native of Carson’s career.

TAYLOR BLOSSOMS EARLY: Junior Donnisha Taylor enjoyed a career weekend against CS Fullerton and Utah State, setting career-highs in eight categories. For the weekend, Taylor averaged 17.5 points and 13.0 rebounds, earning her first career double-doubles in back-to-back games. Against the Ti-tans, the native of Oakland set career highs in points (23), assists (6), field goals made (9), field goals attempted (17), free throws made (5) and free throws attempted (7). Her 23 points more than doubled her previous career high of 10. The forward’s strong play continued Sunday against Utah State, post-ing a career high with two blocks, while tying a previous career high of 14 rebounds.

ALE’S STREAK BROKEN AT 24: Heading into last weekend, Rheina Ale was a perfect 22-for-22 from the free throw line this season and a perfect 36-for-36 dating back to last season. Her missed free throw attempt with 13 seconds remaining against Hawai’i snapped the sophomore’s streak. Cur-rently, Ale leads the WCC and ranks 11th in the NCAA with a .926 (25-for-27) clip from the charity stripe. Earlier this season, Ale’s clutch shooting played a major role in a couple wins. With the Dons up by just two with 1:40 remaining against the Utah State, Ale took the pressure and dissolved it, hitting two free throws to put the Green and Gold up by four. Within the final 40 seconds of the game, the native of Carson sealed the victory for San Francisco hitting four free baskets down the stretch to put the victory out of reach for the Aggies. Last season, as a rookie, Ale led the Dons with a .796 average at the stripe, going 74-for-93.

TOuGh ROAd AhEAd: Thursday’s game marks the finale of eight straight road contests for the Dons. During the span, USF played four games in six days, as well as six games in eight days, span-ning three time zones. The span started November 24 in San Jose and continued to Texas before returning to the Bay for a day before taking off to the islands for the Hukilau Tournament and a single game against Hawaii in Oahu. During the span, USF has gone 1-6.

During the Summer, USF Athletics honors a remarkable past and prepares for the next gen-eration with a major renovation in War Memorial Gym. Among a number of improvements was the first floor replacement done since the arena opened in 1958-59. Along with the new hardwood flooring, the gym is sporting a fresh court design and a new coat of paint from floor to ceiling. The wooden bleachers on the ends of the court were replaced, and new lights were installed.

Upon entering War Memorial Gym, fans will notice a number of other changes, starting with new entrances with to the arena, new retired jerseys hanging above the court, as well as new NCAA and conference championship banners, celebrating the legacy and tradition of USF’s basketball and volleyball programs.

The south lobby of the gym underwent construction as well to create a more permanent con-cessions area.
