Condensermicrophones(alsosometimesreferredtoas“capacitor”microphones)requireasourceof DC power to operate. This is almost always supplied by “phantom” powering from the micpre-amp to which the mic is connected (early and special-purpose condenser mics might havea separate power supply). For the CM25 (or any other condenser mic) to work with the ScarlettSolo, press the48Vbuttonon the frontpanel (see frontpaneldiagramonpage16, item[3]).Werecommendthatyoufollowthefollowingsequence:

• Turntheinputgain[2]tominimum• Connectthemicrophone• Pressthe48Vbutton• Increasetheinputgaintotherequiredlevel

Othertypesofmicrophone(includingthecommondynamictype)donotrequirephantompower, and may suffer damaged if phantom power if applied. Some cheaper condensermicrophonesareabletooperatefromalowerphantompowervoltage–typically15V.You
