Create an Account

E-File is the system that Law Firms and Litigants in Person can use to create Public Searches or Office Copies Requests.

This is a four step process1. Create an online account by Registering as a Public Search User. 2. Pay for Search time.3. Pay for documents requested.4. Courts will confirm approval.

Steps1. Click the link https://efile.cefile-app.com/publicsearch/login2. Click Register as a Public Search User link.

3. Fill in the details. (a red *asterisk denotes compulsory fields to fill in).

Tip - The email address becomes the username.

Passwords are created as per instructions on screen.

4. When complete click Save & Next.

Confirmation of Account

5. You receive a confirmation screen and an email will follow.

7. Internet screen reloads on and you can log in.

6. When confirmation email arrives click the link.

Complete the screens

You can buy search time using either a Credit Card or the Court Service Pay by Account (PBA) system if registered to use it. Time can be bought in 15 minute slots or by the hour (for exact cost please refer to the latest HMCTS Fees Order).

Complete the following Steps -

1. Indicate the time you require and the payment method.2. Click Next.

TipIf using a Credit Card, fill out the details, you will receive a confirmation payment email.

When the payment has been successfully processed, a timer with chosen minutes on the clock shows on the left of screen.

Public SearchWhen the search begins, the timer starts.

Tip – Timer will turn red to indicate you have 5 minutes left. You can buy more time as appropriate.

1. Click Public Search/Public Case Search links2. Type in relevant search criteria.

Tip - Search Type gives you an option to enter party names

3. Click Search. Click a Case to load the result on screen.

A tick indicates if Office Copies are available.

4. Review the details. 5. The Case Event Log, shows the document(s) and Fees. Tip – the timer will continue to run so it is best to do all your Searches and document requests and pay for them all at once.6. When ready click Add to Basket.

A success box appears.

7. Click one of the links to view your shopping basket.

You are now directed to make a payment.

Tip - If time has expired you can click Buy More Time and continue your Search.

Tip - Show Printable Version creates a PDF of the transaction.

View Office Copy Requests

1. Click Office Copy Requests/Submitted2. This will show you a list of all Office Copies – Requested. You do not pay for it until approved by the Court.

To view your Filing Approval notification from the Court, the speech bubble has a red number and you can click to view notifications. In the notifications list, click here.

Filing ApprovalOn the Filing Summary screen, you will see two documents. • The first document is the document you submitted.• The second document is the same document and includes the Court’s reply, stating which documents are available and their

respective costs.

1. Click the Court Reply document.

2. Complete step 2 confirming which documents you wish to receive office copies of. 3. When complete, save the document locally to your laptop or PC.

5. Click Browse to upload the document you just saved.6. Enter the Amount to Pay. Click Save & Next.

4. Click on Create Filing, existing Case. Choose the Filing Sub-type. The other fields are automatically filled. Click Save and Next.

7. Click Add to Basket.

8. Click Submit Filings on the next screen.

A confirmation screen shows in E-Filing. An email is sent confirming the payment, and another with the request that includes a link to view the Filing.

You also receive an Alert to view the document from within the Case.
