Drug is or was used to treat a large number of people with a range of problems because a drug has led the way, showing it is possible to treat a disease. These drugs spurred the pharmaceutical industry to further research and innovation. If you don't have a starting drug, you don't know what is possible -- and you can't take it on from there.

PenicillinPenicillin antibiotics were among the first medications to be effective against many bacterial infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci. Penicillins are still widely used today, though many types of bacteria have developed resistance following extensive use. All penicillins are β-lactam antibiotics.About 10% of people report that they are allergic to penicillin; however, 90% of this group are not actually allergic. Serious allergies only occur in about 0.03%.Penicillin was discovered in 1928 in England. People began using it to treat infections in 1942. There are several enhanced penicillin families which are effective against additional bacteria; these include the antistaphylococcal penicillins, aminopenicillins and the antipseudomonal penicillins.

INsulinInsulin is a hormone that is important for metabolism and utilization of energy from the ingested nutrients - especially glucose. It causes the cells in the liver, muscle, and fat tissue to take up glucose from blood and convert it to glycogen that can be stored in the liver and musclesInsulin also prevents the utilization of fat as an energy source. In absence of insulin or in conditions where insulin is low glucose is not taken up by body cells, and the body begins to use fat as an energy sourceInsulin also controls other body systems and regulates the amino acid uptake by body cellsIt has several other anabolic effects throughout the body as well.

Vaccines help the body remember a microorganism to be able to fight it off when the need comes. However, vaccines are not fool proof and do not guarantee complete protection from a disease. This could be due to various reasons. Sometimes this is because the host's immune system simply doesn't respond adequately or at all. This could be in diseased persons with lowered immunity e.g. in diabetics, those on steroids or other immunity suppressing drugs or those with HIV infection. The reason for non-development of immunity to a disease could also be because the host's immune system does not have a B cell capable of generating antibodies against the antigen or microbe or the immune system may not be strong enough to fight off the infection.

These medicines work by relaxing tightened blood vessels and slowing the heart rate. It has the additional effect of being an antioxidant.Heart failure occurs when the heart can no longer pump blood strongly enough for the body's needs. Often the heart grows in size to try to improve the blood flow but this can make the heart failure worse.Symptoms of heart failure include shortness of breath and swelling of the feet or legs due to fluid build-up.It reduces the pressure that the heart has to pump against as well as controlling your heart rate. Over 6 months or more, this will reduce the size of an oversized heart and increase its efficiency. It reduces the chances of you being admitted to hospital for this condition. It is often used with other medicines to treat heart failure.

Itching is one of the most prevalent side effects of powerful, pain-killing drugs like morphine, oxycodone and other opioids. The opiate-associated itch is so common that even women who get epidurals for labor pain often complain of itching. For many years, scientists have scratched their own heads about why drugs that so effectively suppress pain also induce itch.
