    USE OF STEEL INCONSTRUCTING

BUILDINGSThe advantages to building with steel are enormous! To start with, homes built with steel have straighter walls and fewer cracks thanhomes built with wood. In addition, steel is dimensionally stable andwon't warp, rot buckle, or split, providing substantial savings inlong-term maintenance and energy costs and higher resale values.Steel is the ideal building material for these environmentallyconscious times. It is nontoxic and 100% recyclable!

Mild steel bars (as perIS: 432, part-I -1982)

Mild steel bars are used for tensile stress of RCC(Reinforced cement concrete) slab beams etc. inreinforced cement concrete work. These steel bars are

plain in surface and are round sections of diameterfrom 6 to 50 mm. These rods are manufactured in longlengths and can be cut quickly and be bent easilywithout damage.

    Steel Bars for RCCWork

All finished steel bars for reinforced work should be neatly rolledto the dimension and weights as specified. They should besound, free from cracks, surface flaws, laminations, rough,

jagged and imperfect edges and other defects. It should be

finished in a work manlike manner.

Steel bars are clear, free from loosemil scales, dust and loose rust coatsof paints, oil or other coatings which

    may destroy or reduce bondstrength.

Steel bars should be stored in such a

    Required cover under steel bars

should be given before laying thecement concrete.

No over lap is given in the bar having

    Weight of Different

    Steel Bars

When any type of steel members for use in house construction isrequired, we calculate the length of steel member in feet or meter but

we are ignorant about the weight of steel. Here are details of weight per meter for various types of steelmembers:-

This will help us for estimated weight and cost. It will also help at thetime of purchase to avoid pilferage in weight.

    STANDARD

The coated sheet steel used in the manufacture of steel studsand joints must meet very specific material standards. Mostcommonly, ASTM A653 standard specification for structuralquality cold rolled sheet (replacing ASTM A446) is used to ensurethe sheet steel is suitable for structural applications.

    THICKNESS

Steel is available in many different thicknesses and strength levels. The common design thicknesses are 0.018, 0.033, 0.036, 0.044, 0.048,

0.060, 0.075, and 0.105 inches (exclusive of any metallic coatings). Itis important to specify sheetthickness by the decimal thickness to guarantee a minimum thicknessof delivered product.

    STRENGTH

The sheet steel can be supplied in different strength levels tomeet the structural requirements of the project. In general, for load bearing product it is common to use material with ayield strength of 33 ksi for thicknesses up to 0.048 inches. Formaterial in thicknesses 0.060 inches and greater, a 50 ksi yieldstrength material is common.
