The Lodge – Lecture Summary

The speaker, Darwin Bagley,

presented a good deal of

information about dental implants.

Even though I speak Spanish, he

made the information easy to

understand. When I return to

Honduras, I would like to begin placing implants. The

demonstration kit was an added bonus that was

enjoyable for everyone to participate in. ~ O. Valdez

Neil Eschenfelder’s “Digital Intra-

Oral Photography” lecture was an

information filled crash course on

photography 101 for both the

dental office and out of office

photography. There was an in-

depth explanation of all of the

cameras, icons and interplay of ISO, aperture size,

speed, etc. I found it to be a very informative

presentation on how to improve the quality of your

dental office photos. ~ S. Kigawa

On Wednesday, our speaker was Mr.

Greg Christensen from The Richards

Group, the country’s LARGEST

independently owned advertising agency. He presented

to us a fun and interactive lecture on “The Psychology of

Advertising – What every dentist Needs to know.” He

expanded on the concept of ‘branding.” He showed us

through different exercises that we all have a brand

whether we realize it or not. He informed us by

branding ourselves, and our practices, we can separate

ourselves from other practitioners. He gave us 4 key

points to branding: lateral thinking, don’t edit (let ideas

flow), clarity (write in a clear manner), and keep

promises (be specific on your customer base and what

you provide). Mr. Christensen gave each of us a new

way to see from a consumer’s point of view. ~ M.

Allport

Dr. Reve Chaston, from the

great state of Utah, gave a

dynamic presentation of

philosophies of extracting

teeth or retaining teeth. The

conclusion; as a profession,

try to retain natural teeth as

long as possible. We always

can recommend restorative treatment of implants,

dentures, hybrids or over dentures when teeth are

hopeless. ~M. Gonzales

50th Annual Fall Meeting Nov 5-11

Shadow Mountain Resort & Club

Palm Desert, CA

Meeting Summary It was great to go back to the Lodge at Ventana Canyon

in Tucson, AZ for the 49th Annual Fall Meeting. The

USDTA has been at this beautiful resort in the past and

the staff is exceptional with the service and the food-

fantastic! The location is perfect for a quick jaunt to the

stores and restaurants and the magnificent Kartchner

Caverns and Tombstone were not far.

One activity that brought most of the group together was

the World Series. Our Chicago Cubs couple: Bob and

Carol Kaspers had a cheering squad watching in the

resort restaurant for the last two games. It got so

stressful, that they even left the “party” to watch in their

room! We all celebrated with them the victory of their

home team!

The weather was very cooperative during the week as

well! It started off in the mid to high 80’s, but cooled

down as the week went on, which was great for those

playing multiple events all afternoon! The rain, thunder

and lightning came in the night, but the courts were dry

by the time we were ready to play the next day!

Ventana Canyon had an addition since the last time we

were there, and the new swimming pool and jacuzzi was

a definite plus for all the

participants and kids. The

Welcome Dinner was set by

the pool, and the group

welcomed a new couple!!

David and Didi Zamler joined

us from Michigan. It was

wonderful to have them and we look forward to seeing

them again next year!

Another couple that we

welcomed back were Jerry

and Nancy Goldsmith from

Indiana. Thank you all for

joining us!

It was a big treat with the meeting week falling over

Halloween, we had to have a costume party! Everyone

was creative with their costumes and had a great time at

the cocktail party. The resort had great food and

beverages were had by everyone! We welcome you to

come join

our 50th

Annual

Spring

meeting

April 23-29,

2017 at the

beautiful

South Seas

Island Resort on Captiva Island, FL. Past President,

Randy Van Alstine will be there with his band for the

Farewell Dinner!
